Jamison Crowder

Jets agreed to terms with WR Jamison Crowder, formerly of the Redskins.

Crowder, 26 in June, is coming off an injury-riddled 388-yard season in D.C. but has been a high-efficiency target throughout his career with a 67.1% catch rate. Jermaine Kearse -- the Jets' primary slot receiver in 2018 -- pathetically hauled in just 48.7% of his targets. Crowder will team with Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa in three-receiver sets, with Chris Herndon at tight end.

If Crowder is our worst receiver on opening day this will be a vastly improved group.

If used properly, Crowder is a tough cover.  He's the prototype underneath guy that Brady would make the next Welker/Faulk/Edelman type, who can be a QB's best friend.  Sign Bell now too...look out!

Nice editorializing as always...the DC pass game was a mess last year. And that was hardly Crowder's fault. The injury knock is fair, though.

Crowder is the type of player that Jets fans would be crushed if he signed with New England. Would be nothing but " he will kill it there" etc etc.

Since he is a Jet though, he's not quite as good.

Seems like the thread is all on board.  Just preparing for blow back?

Had about 70 receptions and 850 yards just a couple seasons ago. Short and fast and has pretty much had horrible QB play throughout his career.

He fits nicely in the middle with Anderson and Q on the perimeter.

??What??

Cousins made a guaranteed $30M per for that horrible QB play.

Crowder ranked outside of the top 50 WR's on Football Outsiders 3 of the last 4 years (he was # 44 the other season).  He was the # 91 WR last year per PFF.

Compare that to Cole Beasley, who was # 38 on FO and # 34 on PFF last season.  Granted, he's 4 years older than Crowder.  But who really cares about age all that much when it comes to slot guys?

Dude, Crowder is much better than Beasley.

Ankle injury last year which kept him out 7 games...otherwise, no real injury history.

If this was a torn ACL or something like that, I would be concerned, but you can't control when someone is going to bust up an ankle in the NFL (or the NBA)...just one of those things.  When he got back, Alex Smith was gone and he had to deal with McCoy/Johsnon/Sanchez.

Really, really like this move...our WR corp with Anderson, Quincy, Crowder is decent.  Add a promising WR in the draft and this time next year we could actually be talking about having an above average WR group.

Quote

The 2015 fourth-round pick played 15 or 16 games in each of his first three seasons, catching 59, 67 and 66 passes while primarily working the slot. His role didn't change in 2018, but he struggled to find chemistry with Alex Smith (leg) early in the season, then missed seven consecutive games with an ankle injury. By the time Crowder made it back into the lineup, Colt McCoy (leg) had taken over at quarterback, soon to be followed by Mark Sanchez and eventually Josh Johnson. Now scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, Crowder should be one of the more attractive options at his position, boasting a 67.2 percent career catch rate with 8.0 yards per target. He still has some breakout appeal ahead of his age-26 season, though it may require a change of scenery if the Redskins can't figure out their quarterback situation. Even if the breakout never happens, Crowder should find his way back toward his 2016-17 level of contribution.
