Nobody is saying they are great but its ******* depth, they wont be used

F that....we know who these two guys are and the one thing they aren't is good. I'd much rather sign some no-names or players that were lower round draft picks that ended up injured and never got a shot to stick with their original teams. At least they would have a 1% chance of turning into something useful. Hell, look at the AAF and scout some lineman that looks halfway decent. I really don't care but continuing to employ two worthless bodies for "depth" does absolutely nothing to improve this team.

100%. Qvale has been here 5 years! Tomlinson 3. I'm not looking for Pro Bowlers, I'll settle for league average players. But if your back up roster spots are all taken by guys who have been around for 5 years and still haven't amounted to anything, you're limiting the potential to find a diamond in the rough.

Tomlinson is a great example of fans not understanding what they're watching, and how difficult it is to grade blocking. He's not a great TE but he is a very good blocker. If you pancake a safety you get an A but if you get run over by Khalil Mack it's an F and everyone hates you.

He's not a tackle but he was asked to block like one last year and didn't do very well. I would hope the new staff puts him in a better position this year.

No TE is going to fare well blocking premier edge rushers one on one which ET was tasked with many times last year.

Doesn't matter how well you block on 3rd and 1 when you move before the whistle and turn it into a 3rd and 6, changing the call from a run to a pass so that your "run-blocking" TE jogs over to the sideline shaking his head.

He definitely fell off hard from his previous years so hopefully you're right. But the penalties, especially mental errors, are inexcusable given the limited amount of snaps he gets. Either way, I'm sure they will bring in others to compete with him during camp.

Qvale deal is 1 year, $1.4 million with a chance to reach $2.4 million with incentives, per source . $550k guaranteed.

Qvale is a good back up RT, (actually IMO, as good as Shell) and an adequate RG.  As long as they don't try to put him at LT this is a good signing

Tomlinson gets a bad rep because he has had penalties, but he's easily the best blocking TE on the team and one of the better blocking specialists in the league. For a cheap #2 behind Herndon, he's more than adequate.

I'll have to disagree here. He's labeled as a blocking TE but he sucks at blocking. All I remember is him getting pushed around at the point of attack. I really hope he doesn't make the team.

Because he was asked to do this year what a blocking TE is NOT suppose to do, and that is take on the best edge rushers.

He is suppose to cover blitzing CB's and Safeties, not the likes of Cameron Wake and Khalil Mack.

This is true. We also have to consider bang for buck. The top blocking TEs on other teams are pulling down $4M-$5M or more per year.

The Jets just resigned Tomlinson, a good blocker, probably for less than the $2M low tender they refused to use on him.

He's a cheap option as the blocking TE. Like kicker, it's just a position where the Jets just don't ever want to spend big money.

You have to look at whom he is getting pushed around by to make a judgment. No TE is going to do well against a DE. It's just not going to happen.

They need to chip, double team, or block in the secondary. That he does as well as any TE. That's why he plays.

The rest of our guys are move TEs. They don't even play the same position.

The problem is as a blocking TE he couldn't block anybody regardless of who his responsibility was on a certain play. It's also the reason why his playing time was cut to almost nothing towards the end of the season.

It baffles me why some people stick up for a guy who was the worst player on our team last year. He's useless.

Nah he only drafts scrubs. Don’t lose hope, he may draft your heroes from the CFL.

Too bad you're new; two of us Canadians suggested 10 years ago for the Jets to check out a young guy named Cameron Wake.

But, you weren't born yet, so......We will give you a pass on that one Wonderboy!!!!

Nobody is sticking up for the guy!

He is a camp body.  If he gets beat out, great!

If he improves...great!

Its all the posters who rag on decisions like this as if its the only thing that has been done in all of free agency so far that gets annoying.

Did you stick up for Matt Mulligan like this?  Cause Mulligan was better.
