There was something about Gronk that made him hard to hate As a matter of fact, the only thing I can think of is the Pats uniform. Great player, big, happy go lucky guy who played like a mixture of a kid and a beast. Much respect to the Gronk. I wish him well. Tony Gonzalez is the greatest TE of all time. Gates is 2nd. Gronk retiring this early because of steroids and the fact that Belichick was about to cut him hurts his legacy

Hael
I also think he's the best TE to ever play. Which is crazy considering how short his career was, and how much it was interrupted due to injuries. He easily could have shattered every record in the book if he hadn't been hurt. Those first few years in the league when he was in his prime was something i've never seen before, as he was completely unguardable.

Although it seems like it's been forever since the big first round stud TE prospect lived up to their draft hype. Most years there is at least one 1st round TE that's touted as the next big thing at the position and (granted, just off the top of my head) it seems like they never live up to it... Hayden Hurst last year. OJ Howard, Eifert, Ebron, Pettigrew, Gresham... None of them ended up being the dominant player they were projected to be. Who's the last big/first round prospect that actually turned out to be a top talent in the league? Greg Olsen? Vernon Davis? I wouldnt call him a bust but I'd say that even Davis didnt live up to the enormous hype he had when he came out. Is TE the highest bust rate inside the first round? Edit: Just looked up a few of the recent top TE's in the league... Gronk - 2nd Round Kelce - 3rd Round. Reed - 3rd Round Jimmy Graham - 3rd Round Herndon (?) - 4th Round Kittle - 5th Round Engram and Njoku look like they might be able to break that first round trend. More so than Howard to this point, anyhow.
