Who is a better GM Dave Gettleman or Mike McCagnan?

Recommended Posts

Literally the future of these two NY franchises come down to these men. McCagnan bet his career on Darnold and Gettleman didnt even think he was good enough succeed Eli.

Is one better than the other? Are they both geniuses? Are they both terrible?

Both are bad for different reasons.

Right now Mac is better because gettlemen stupidly passed on a Qb for a RB when he was drafting high and did not have to trade up to get a guy.

The questions should be who is a worse GM.

It’s still early for Gettleman but man has he been terrible. You would think a competitive rebuild like what the Jets tried is dumb but I have no idea what Gettleman is doing by sticking with Eli and wasting that cap on him.

Gettleman is old and the game has passed him by. Maccagnan hasn’t been competent at his job since Day One. Both should be fired, but Maccagnan is the one who might never find work in the league again. A true disaster of a hire.

That is an awful  reference for Gettlemen. Do you honestly think anyone in the Giants organization down to the janitor  thought Darnold could not replace Eli?

The things people post.

I really don't  think anyone can seriously say taking Barkley  was a mistake.

Agreed. Taking Barkley over Darnold is a hell of a lot easier to explain than taking Jamal Adams over Pat Mahomes at this point.

Gettleman’s drafting has had a greater positive impact on the Jets than Macc’s.  So, Gettleman?

Gentleman doesn’t seem to have a plan. Macc’s execution hasn’t been good but at least he has a plan.

If Gettleman were Jets GM, I’d constantly be worried about him trading Darnold for a “deal I couldn’t refuse.”

Over a FQB, a mistake on every level.

Once Gettleman gets Rosen in a 2rd draft pick trade all this yap about no plan will die. Rosen might still suck but for at least a brief period of time he will look like a genius.

Mac didnt even look like a genius on draft night last year cause a monkey could have handed in the card with Darnold on it.

So wait, logic at work here.

Macc doesnt look smart because any moron could have drafted Darnold.

SO the other moron is better because, he was a bigger moron for passing on Darnold.

Got it

I'll go Gettleman for one reason. The Jets' latest "competitive rebuild" came during a year where they weren't really in line for a new franchise QB and it at least lead to a double digit winning season.

Dave's was neither of those. He gave up Darnold and anyone else for another chance at winning with Eli and he didn't even field a winning team for his efforts. If he winds up getting Haskins or Rosen or whoever with Barkley being a major piece in their development then maybe I'll change my tune. But for now it looks like he's just adrift and lost without a real plan.

Mac has been wishy washy with his approach going from trying to compete to tearing it all down and rebuilding in 2017 and his drafting in the middle rounds leaves a LOT to be desired but I never felt like he was lost without a clue of what he was doing. I feel that way about Dave.

I don't  agree. It's  easy to say this today because it looks like Mahomes is going to be the best ever the comeback  in the AFCCG says that, but nobody knew he was going to be this good on draft day or he would have been the first overall pick. Adam's was arguably the best defensive player in that draft both then and now.

Barkley is going to break every RB record. If the Giants trade for Rosen, they will have a fan and a frb. They may have a lesser QB but it is probably good enough for that team to challenge for a championship.  They did it with Eli and he is far from the best.

It's too early to grade Gettleman but mccags would get no better that a D... and that's Only becausae he was able to get Sam if not it would be an F.

Gettleman’s legacy will be drafting Barkley over Darnold. Doesn’t look so bad now. In ten years it will be heralded as one of the worst moves ever.

This is incorrect. A team with an excellent draft record knew that Mahomes was going to be good. A team with an absolutely horrendous draft record took the strong safety

BS. Cleveland past on him and they were starving for a QB. Seriously KC has a great draft record? Outside of Kelce, who on that team is great? They drafted a RB that got booted off the team and now the star WR is going to probably suffer the same fate. The star pass rusher is now on another team as well. Where are all these franchise players you speak of?
