A. The guy who flew the Hindenburg  B. That bro who sank the Titanic

So essentially the question is, which GM is only the second worst in the NFL?

Which smells better horses-sh*t or cow sh*t?

It's Gettleman but one thing after Jets GMs fired, Idzik, Macc you never hear from them anything. You'd have to assume they both had non disclosure clauses but you don't always see this when someone is fired. You often see them being interviewed etc but zilch from both of these guys. Macc hasn't resurfaced I looked it up and see no jobs he's gotten in football since being fired. He had a long history with the Texans before being hired with the Jets (14 years) and since he left us Houston has had openings and no rumors etc. Idzik was hired by Jax but was recently fired.

Macc was fired with 2 years left on his deal. I'm sure one of the contingencies of that money as written into his contract is a non-disparagement clause. I'd keep quiet too for $6M or whatever the remaining 2 years on his deal is worth. I forget if Idzik had years left.

Prolly because Macc  is the guy that suggested DeShaun Watson try getting massages.

Gettleman, buffoon that he may be, is still in the NFL. (LOL)

I agree, but we should remember the Giants don’t fire easy

If Daniel Jones progresses this year, the Giants could easily win that division.

Id hold off on bashing gettleman until we see how the giants look this year.

Reading the 1st page or 2 of this thread its laughable that some were hammering gettlemen for passing on Darnold.  HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.

That's  because if Gettleman HAD taken Darnold, we might have taken Allen.  Which at the time would have seemed an utter disaster.  But now?  I can only assume Gase would have ruined Allen the same way he did Darnold.

You think Danny Dimes gonna blow up this year like Josh Allen did last year? HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

Drafting a RB at 2 was still the wrong move.  If Gettleman really didn't like the QB's in that class, he should have traded down.  And Daniel Jones blows.  He's not as bad as Darnold, but he does suck.

Gettleman sucks.  Macc just sucked a lot more.  Gettleman is one of the worst GM's in the league right now, if not the worst.  Macc was the worst GM in NFL history, and it isn't close.

Instead of comparing and contrasting the legion of disastrous decisions these two GMs have made in New York, I will focus on the positives:

Gettleman is better at keeping his job.

MacCagnan is better at getting paid for not working.

Mr. Coffee wins by default.

Maybe nobody wanted to trade up.  Sorry, but if the Giants make the playoffs this year, Saquon is back to form and Daniel Jones improves, Gettlemen is not nearly the worst gm in the league.

There's always somebody looking to trade up.  That excuse was retired after Maccagnan failed to trade up time and again, even when there wasn't a QB teams were looking to move up for.  In a class with 4 QB's going in the top 10?  Of course someone was going to be willing.  The Jets moved up to 3.  Why couldn't Gettleman have swindled Maccagnan there?

As for the bold, Only one of those 3 things is going to happen.  And the one that will happen, Saquon returning to form, doesn't matter because he's still a RB and he still has a short average shelf life in this league.  You can never build your team around a RB, especially not in today's NFL.

The titans got to the afc championship game doing it 2 years ago.

They're the same person.

Drafting franchise QB's (Darnold/Jones) who busted and overpaying big name FA's to market setting contracts (Bell/Golladay) to making for trades for suspect players requiring big contracts (Osemele/Leonard Williams) to overall poor drafting in general.

Both with no clear plan for team building or salary cap management, just throwing sh*t at the wall.

And then what happened?

And as special as Henry is, they don't get there if you replace Tannehill with an average QB; Tannehill posted a 117.5 QB Rating and 9.6 YPA that season.  Love him or hate him, he was # 1 in the NFL in both categories that season.

It's also important to note that Henry was a former # 45 overall pick.  Barkley was a # 2 overall pick.  Massive difference in resources devoted to RB there.  And it'll be interesting to see how the Titans do moving forward now that Henry is the 5th-highest paid RB in the NFL and is coming off back to back years where he got 300+ carries (378 last season).

They got to the playoffs again last year.

Tannehill sees 9 guys in the box on every snap.  Henry makes Tannehill, not the other way around.

You sure we'd have taken Allen? Coin toss whether it'd have been Allen or Rosen, no matter what the rumors now became after seeing which one turned out better than the other. At the time he made the trade to move up, the frontrunners for picks 1-2 were Darnold & Rosen, and maybe not in that order.

Only thing better about Rosen is the experiment would've been over faster.

Of course people still would've blamed his on-field woes on the supporting cast, coaching, moon phases, etc.

Macc was gawd awful but it was closer than you think.

Many have made the Millen argument, and I've immediately dismissed it.

Millen drafted the following players in his tenure:

  • Calvin Johnson
  • Dominic Raiola
  • Jeff Backus
  • Shaun Rogers
  • Cory Redding
  • Cliff Avril
  • Gosder Cherilus
  • Andre' Goodman

Mike Maccagnan could only dream of drafting such talent.

A dog with different fleas.  You forget about the Millen Man March.  Good player, terrible GM.  Millen had more years and hit on a few.  Macc won the Executive of the Year once too.  I'd can list some average players from Macc's list as well.  The both sucked relatively equally.   Macc's just hurts a little more cause it's our team.

Yes, please list off Macc's "hits" (all 3 of them!), then compare them to a list that include a HOF WR (who was probably one of the 5 greatest WR's I've ever seen), several rock solid Offensive Linemen and 3 quality pass rushers.  It really doesn't matter that Maccagnan had 3 fewer drafts than Millen had.  He would have botched those 3 draft classes too.

Meanwhile, as bad as Maccagnan was at drafting, he was somehow far worse with FA contracts/extensions.  Just the Trumaine Johnson and Quincy Enunwa signings are enough to easily give him the title of worst GM of all time.

Millen sucked.  Macc sucked far worse.
