In dire need of a presence off the edge, the New York Jets chose Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite in the third round of the NFL draft with the 68th overall pick.

I’ve learned a lot and Now I’m ready to Play B A L L 💯

— Jachai Polite. (@RetireMoms) April 25, 2019

Last season as a Gator, Polite had 11 sacks and 19 tackles for loss due to a relentless motor and great first step.

Of course people will complain but this is a great pick.  Fills a need and great value for a 3rd rounder.  williams and the rest of the "Dawgs" will get this guy ready to play.

Here's a profile

Jachai Polite ER Florida

by Drew Boylhart • February 13, 2019

STRENGTHS
Jachai is a quick twitch, athlete with explosive speed off the edge to attack the line of scrimmage and cause havoc on any down and distance. His burst off the line on passing downs is unique and natural and this along with his change of direction skills makes him a third and long, down nightmare for offensive lineman to deal with. Jachai is stout against the run and is very quick to string out sweeps and disrupt screens run to his side. He can play on either side and has the athleticism to be moved around your front seven to keep him freed up to attack the line of scrimmage from different positions. Jachai has the potential to be an impact defensive play and the type that is a playmaker for your defense. He can force your offense coordinator and QB into making mistakes all game long.

CONCERNS
Jachai needs to get stronger in his lower body to be able to turn the corner on his pass rush with more strength. He also needs to be more consistent against the run. When he attacks, he shocks the lineman with his strength and explosion but at times he lets the play come to him and because he lacks lower body strength he gets caught up and can’t get off the block and make a play. Jachai has to gain a higher football IQ and strength along with better pass rushing techniques but I see an excellent work ethic in his play on the field and that makes me think it’s just matter of time for him to improve in every aspect of his game.

TALENT BOARD ROUND 1.44
Jachai has only played on the edge for one year so its very impressive what he has accomplished in the one year. He is doing everything on athletic talent and that means theirs’s big-time upside to this kid’s game once he learns better techniques and gets stronger. I saw him one time come out of a three-point stance and all I can tell you is, the explosion coming off the line of scrimmage made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and shout. When he stands up he thinks too much but coming off the line in a down position all he did was get into the back field turn the corner and drop the QB before he could complete a three-step drop. Think about that for a minute, the right tackle never got out of his stance and the QB took the snap, took three steps and Jachai had him on the ground. I still get chills thinking about it. Jachai has a ton of untapped talent to rush the passer and become a dominate player similar to the Patriots Donta Hightower who is used all over the defensive front seven. He is not as big as Donta but he has the same talent and a little quicker explosion. It might take a little time but that’s his potential. Jachai has the type of talent that offensive coordinators and QB’s will have to account for him on every down and distance.

Just to be clear on this one: We selected a guy that completely bombed the combine because we have a need at the position due to Macaggnan getting completely burned by another OLB that he wanted to overpay in free agency. That's pretty much where this pick stands with this ******* GM. This team isn't any better than it was on Wednesday.

Polite showed up at the combine overweight and out of shape also he didn't interview well hope he works out but this guy has warning bells all over him. I would rather see them take a OL or tried to trade back in and grab Metcalf and give Darnold a real threat and a potential #1 WR instead they take a guy that was to lazy to prepare for the combine. Wonder what all the Mac fans will say if this guy shows up to training camp in this state. Best thing will happen to the off season when Mac is finally gone.

Actually he's showing his true colors as one of the worst GM's in the league. I'm glad you're happy and accept incompetence.

Have you watched the film on polite? He was a beast in the sec.

Granted, he didn't have a good combine which is why he fell but you don't get elite prospects after the top 10-15 players.

I think polite is a very good gamble.

A lot of facts in here. Not sure the conclusion is correct though.  We've been but burned more than once with workout warriors. It might not be such a horrible move to grab a head case who has produced in actual games.

Was going to post this myself. Just freakish stuff. If he had done well at the combine he could have been a top 15 pick.

I think he tried to bulk up before the combine and it backfired big time. He added like 20 pounds which likely caused his injury or if the injury was fake it definitely slowed him down.

You'd be whining if we took a player that had a bad year but had a great combine. It's just in some people's nature to whine. No worries.

Oh JoJo.

So, the guy has talent, but the first thing mentioned is how he shows up, basically to his job interview, slow and overweight.

Meanwhile, a guy with a high motor and high character goes a few picks later to the New England Patriots.

Why is it sooooooo hard to get this sh*t right?

Teabagging like the Colonists teabagged the Brits.

Well done.

Another box checked.

No go get a center or O-lineman.

Winovich is also unatletic so no amount of motor or character is going to make him an explosive pass rusher.

How do you explain his pro day then?

If there is one position in the NFL where these numbers are super important it is a pass rushing edge. He was horrible not only at the combine but also his pro day. How often do you see a player bomb their pro day?

If you are from NY/NJ, it’s in your DNA to complain about everything.  Polite is going to help us off the edge and is tremendous value at the spot in Round 3.  He will consistently get to the opposing QB with his relentless motor and will cause multiple turnovers next year.  These people aren't going to be whining for long.

I liked Tanny. He drafted four guys that will be in our ring of honor and took us to two championship games. If he only got the QB position right he would be a legend.

It gets worse: there was a guy who destroyed the Combine right there for the taking, and—surprise!—we went with the three-legged puppy that people have heard of instead.

This was for sure a Greg Williams pick. He sees that raw talent and the ability this young man has to create CHAOS. He’ll mold him well

Game tape don't lie. He is as explosive off the snap as anybody that was drafted ahead of him

If they wanted a edge rusher they should have drafted Jaylon Fergusan instead same motor sacks and is a good character person. But instead Mac doesn't look at anything but a BPA list proof this GM cant think outside the box
