He was dinged up a lot.  Also they had true freshman Xavier Thomas rotating in there as well.   We’ll be discussing Thomas in a couple years, he’s good.

Yeah....Dabo just keeps getting guys to come in who are just as good, if not better, than the guys who leave.

I know what you mean, yet, he gained weight specifically for the combine even though he didn’t play at that weight.  So i guess there are guys who just don’t get the right coaching when they need it.  But his comments after being drafted are impressive.  The talent is undeniable.  And he did it in the SEC.

Then when do their football alumni step in?  Mentor these kids?  The former players always on campus?  The S&C guys that their responsibility is to also prepare them for the combine, Pro Day?

Sorry, don’t get it.  We (school/alumni) OWE it to these kids to prepare them.

I love, love, love Coach Dabo.  One of my favorite coaches in all of CFB., and not just on the field.

He’s probably one of the nicest people you can meet.  I’ve met him a few times and he’s the same now as he’s been since day 1.  The success hasn’t changed him at all.  What he’s built at Clemson is really impressive.

Crazy how every year our drafts are A+ awesome and yet the team still blows goats every year. Weird tbh.

The only grades that matters in the days following a draft are Ds and Fs. You can clearly see when a team ****s up (like when the Jets picked Roger Vick in the first round). So, the Ds and Fs are meaningful. All other grades simply mean that you've not royally ****ed up. After that you just have to wait and see.

He’s the kind of guy you’d love as a neighbor and friend, someone you can entrust the most important and adored person in your life, your son.  I can give no greater compliment, as a mother.

He may very well be.

If we catch some luck, and Polite gives us that outside rush, im very excited about what this defense can do.

I wish there were more accurate draft grades that factored in need, positional value etc. Most of these rating providers give 80% of the teams an “A” rating. It’d be a lot more interesting if there was variety and actual analysis.

The forum itself is the best. The whiny members polluting it? Not so much.

Did any of the dopes here criticizing the Polite pick actually take a look at his tape? Kid is an animal, in the back field on every play, and is all over the field all game long. I am no NFL talent evaluator granted, but he looks to be everything this franchise has needed on the DL since Abe.

When you call highlight videos “tape.” It’s like confusing a porno with an autobiography. “Did you see that guy’s autobiography? He was getting laid 24/7!”

These are great draft picks.

There is more to managing a team than making the picks but this is certainly an improvement.

I'm really glad we didn't trade assets to get back in the 2nd round.

Glad also that we seem to be drafting potential over safety. Take shots at potential starters rather than sure backups.

I think we will sign Steve Wisniewski but we will smartly wait until FA signing period is over. Comp picks are important.

You would have had a hard time convincing of that when those OL  were going off the board in the early second, but in the end your right.  Polite is going to be an impact ER IMO

Don't get me wrong. We should have had 2nd round picks ahead of time.

You just should never chase them.

Grading a draft before a single drafted player takes a single snap is stupid.

If Williams is a beast in the middle, and Polite is his tape not his combine, and our D is top 5, it's an A.

If Williams is just another guy in the middle, and Polite really was just a natural talent guy who lacks what it take to improve at the pro level, and our D is in the 20's like the past few years, it's a C or D.

And if Darnold get hurts behind our patchwork O-Line, or we continue to be unable to move the ball or score points (i.e. ranked in the bottom 5 of NFL Offenses), one could say the draft grade is also a C or D for going D when we needed so much, so obviously, on Offense.

But we won't know for quite some time yet.

On-paper draft grades are just silly.  Draft "experts" judging others by their own Draft Expertness, lol.

Dear debbie:

once again, the sun has come out to shine and you have closed the blinds and cut a wretched egg based fart in all our faces in your dirty wranglers that haven't been washed in 3 weeks.

Draft grades now are just speculation. We all know this.

eric

From a young man who knows Polite very well:  He's a monster on the field.  First step can't be blocked one on one, Gives 100% on the field.

Doesn't live football 24-7.  When he's off the field wants to have fun, not work.  Drives the CS crazy because of his potential.

IMO the kid is going to have a major impact as an ER, we'll see how he adjusts to life in NYC

No they are not at all.  One 7th round pick puts you at the head of the pack for choosing the over 300 UDFA's each year.

Grading players drafted vs grading a draft are very different things.

This would be consistent with the information that's out there. Good highlight stuff, good first step (which doesn't necessarily translate to the 40), but a lot of troubling anecdotal stuff surrounding him. Thanks, flgreen.

Yes, but let's be honest, too many people are in full hyperbole mode at this point, all-in and striking down any doubters, or all-in, and crushing any hopefuls.

Truth, as always, is in the middle someplace.

I don't particularly favor the direction the Organization has chosen to go this draft/offseason (i.e. IMO all-in on Defense, limited investment in the Offense, especially the O-Line) but it is what it is.  We're quite a bit better....on paper.....so we'll just have to see.

If Darnold gets hurt, Bell isn't who he was, or our recievers fail to impress yet again, I'll be dissapointed.

If our D isn't Top-5 with all this investment and Greg Williams (who I like alot and supported hiring) leading it, I'll be dissapointed.

We'll just have to see.

This is pretty close to how I see it.  We've gone round and round JN talking about which way we were going to go with this draft and after all of it I was convinced all of the talk from the Jets about building around Sam would continue into the draft.  I believed we would trade down. I believed it would be for OL or at worst TE. Once Q was taken, which I do understand, I believed OL was next. I am surprised by the choices. The D had better be improved.

All of that said, if they had Polite as a 1st rd talent and the second best Edge in the draft, I understand not being able to pass him up. Especially with our need there.

I find it hard to believe they don't see the need for a C right now. There is only one on the team and he's a solid reserve at that. We have that practice squad kid, but come on.

So here we are. We got a monster DT to go with Leo and we got the 2nd best Egde rusher in the draft. If it works and we have our first real pass rusher from the outside since Abe then ok. Fine.

Let's see what they do with the 4th today. Hakeem Butler is still there. Ross Pierschbacher is still there. Michael Jordan and Cajuste are still there.  Unfortunately Julian Love is still there. I'd be disappointed to see them go D with our last pick in essentially the top half of the draft. If we can get Pierschbacher(I'm tired of writing that name) Jordan or Butler I'd be happy.

All three players we drafted have very reasonable chances of being good at the next level.

It just sucks that we continually use our best pick, our 1st rounders, on defense. Almost two decades of this sh*t.

I disagree. You aren't grading the draft on their production, your grading the GM and his decisions based on the available information and team.

You can always look back and say wow this supposed bad pick was actually great, or this great pick was bad. But initial draft grades are about how the GM is improving his team.

Unfortunately every school isn’t USC or Miami (FL) where the players who are good enough to play in the NFL are groomed like that or where the alums in the league continue to maintain a presence and pass on a tradition to the current crop of players...

Unbelievable.  Before Sammy started, the three losses, our HC called on our FB alums to come and talk to our players, two days notice, 43 players showed up...Pro HOFers, 2 Heisman Trophy winners, Tony Boselli flew in from Florida just to talk to the kids on what it means to be a Trojan.,,and flew back home on a red eye.  Their alumni club steps in the moment these kids declare for the draft, advise them, hook them up with the vast alumni network, offer two scholarships for advanced degree.   It was established in 1956!  Why can’t others do this?  You owe these kids so much!

Just frustrated, sorry for the rant.

You don’t draft a offensive player just because you have drafted defense so much in the past.  This draft was heavy in impact defensive talent.  Williams or Allen would of been the right pick either one
