Yeah I get it. Just a fan base that is never happy about anything no matter what.

Ok. I found a list. Only one WR though....but I like what i've been able to find on him right now

Overview

Smooth, fluid slot receiver whose smallish build is overshadowed by his toughness in the middle of the field and talent as a return man. Dortch is productive, but has issues finishing contested catches and will need to run his routes with greater focus and urgency in order to maximize separation from defenders. He has the hands and quickness to become a future starting slot, but there will be teams who scratch him from their board due to his lack of size.

He looks impressive there with natural hands, smoothness, and explosiveness. Reminds me a bit of Brandin Cooks whom I loved coming out.

I have no issue with any of these guys.  If we can get one or two to surprise in camp it is a success.

That comment makes me unhappy.  :-)

@Paradis Your thoughts on Dortch? Based on the highlight vid(I know) what are his shortcomings. Concentration drops? Fumbles? Meh?

He looks like a shifty, natural hands catcher with some burst and speed to me.

'A bit small but looks like he could be a good kick and punt returner. Looks like he has much better hands than Cannon.

I've seen him listed at 5'7" and that doesn't seem realistic from watching him. I'v'e also seen him listed at 5'9" and that seems about right. Other than that I can't find squat about him.

Agree about Cannon as a returner but I think if he makes this roster it's as a receiver.

He’s probably right around 5’8”.  By far the Deacons most productive receiver, he had like double the receptions and receiving yards than the next receiver at Wake.  The games I saw him against Clemson he didn’t do too much, but the entire Wake team didn’t do anything.  He quick, not sure that he’s as fast as Cooks though.

I would imagine you need an incredibly accurate QB when you throw to small quick WRs & Im thinking Gase thinks hes got his man in Darnold.

Bradys accuracy & anticipation is what makes it possible for their slot position to be so productive. From Welker to Amendola to Edelman.

We seem to be seeing this idea under Gase. Free agent Crowder, Burnett, UDFA  Dortch, that's 3 guys that are more quick than fast & all great hand catchers.

We signed Tyler Jones OL from NC State:

https://packinsider.com/2019/04/28/nc-state-lt-tyler-jones-signs-with-the-jets/

He was an LT, but from his scouting report he seems to have good traits to kick
inside to center:

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/tyler-jones?id=32194a4f-4e26-3739-be50-726a9932fb81

Overview
Jones put together solid tape in his 2018 matchup against Clemson, showing off his zone-blocking talent and ability to match foot quickness with edge rushers in pass protection, but overall, his tape was a little uneven for the season. Jones has the athletic ability to transition inside as a zone guard, but he needs to add mass and improve his core strength in order to find playing time on the next level.
Strengths
  • Athletic with two years of starting duty at left tackle
  • Has feet and reflexes for quick response to rush counters
  • Held up admirably against edge speed challenges
  • Durable and dependable
  • Years of technique work and experience in zone-heavy scheme
  • Nimble feet to gain ground quickly on move blocks
  • Effective use of hands to reach and secure on play-side zone
  • Capable to locate and connect on second level
  • Strikes and lifts to leverage kick-out blocks in run game
Weaknesses
  • Expect growing pains in his move from tackle to guard
  • Might need a redshirt year while he eats and lifts to get bigger
  • Body control can be sloppy and uneven
  • Lack of core strength will need to be addressed for move inside
  • Will need to improve as run-block finisher
  • Needs better knee bend at point of attack to improve contact balance
  • Hand placement can be inconsistent in his pass sets
  • Could struggle to find a functional anchor against pocket bullies

Jones says he can play Center, and the OT from UCF might be an option to make the switch to the pivot. He took some snaps there at his pro day. Added to the C/G/T from USC, the Jets at least have a few options to try out at Center in camp.

I'm not complaining about him at all, so don't take it the wrong way. When you're picking UDFAs they're all long shots.

Just to follow the theme, you could say many drafted picks by Mac could be considered long shots..

Well if we can't block, we can maul them to death

So while the rest of the league is scooping up a crapload of offensive prospects we're cleaning up on defensive line prospects and making jokes.

No worries. Like many Jets fans I'm jaded from years of failure and imcompetence. I try to keep it reasonably positive but it's hard at times.

Also reminds me of what I saw of Penny Hart @ the Senor Bowl practices. Not sure if he is as fast though.

Edelman isn't fast....but he's quick & runs precise routes. That's what slot is all about, getting in & out of cuts on a dime & being in sync with your QB.

More on Dortch:

Jets wide-open return game creates path for UDFA Greg Dortch  by Tyler Calvaruso

Most undrafted free agents are nothing more than acquisitions to give a team enough bodies to survive offseason workouts. In some cases, though, undrafted free agents have a legitimate chance to not only make the team out of training camp, but an impact in the regular season as well.

For the Jets, that player is wide receiver and return specialist Greg Dortch.

In two seasons at Wake Forest, Dortch established himself as one of the most electric players in the ACC. As a redshirt freshman, the 5-foot-7 slot receiver made an instant impact with 53 receptions for 722 yards and nine touchdowns. He also averaged 22.1 yards per kick return and earned Freshman All-American honors.

In 2018, Dortch took his game to the next level, catching 89 passes 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned two punts for touchdowns and averaged 20.9 yards per kick return. For his efforts, Dortch was named first-team all-conference selection.

Dortch's decision to declare after his redshirt sophomore season was somewhat of a head-scratcher. Had he stayed at Wake Forest for an additional year or two, odds are he would've been a Day 2 or 3 pick in either the 2020 or 2021 NFL draft.

Despite going undrafted, Dortch now finds himself in a position that could be viewed as a blessing in disguise for a player with his skill set. After letting All-Pro return man Andre Roberts walk this offseason, the Jets need a new kick and punt returner. Running back Trenton Cannon has the inside track at winning the job, but struggled in that role throughout training camp and the preseason last year. If those issues arise again, Dortch will be in a position to steal the job.

Even if Dortch cannot overtake Cannon in the return game, he has what it takes to make an impact in New York's passing attack. Jamison Crowder is entrenched as Gang Green's starting slot receiver and backup Deontay Burnett already has a strong rapport with Sam Darnold. That leaves Dortch somewhat buried on the depth chart.

However, if Dortch flashes any of the ability he had at Wake Forest during offseason workouts, it's going to be hard to keep him out of contention for a roster spot. Dortch has a slight frame, but is as tough as they come running routes over the middle and absorbing subsequent contact.

Don't be surprised if Dortch is a name thrown around throughout the summer as a player who is making waves in Jets camp. There's no doubt he has the playmaking ability to succeed at the next level. Now, it's all about putting it together and showing out for the team that granted him his shot at the NFL.
