Grade the draft

  1. 1. We know that a draft can't be evaluated immediately. But let's do it anyway. What grade do you give the Jets 2019 draft?

I know there's a lot of potentially home run type players in this group, but we also know:

1) The Jets have one of the least talented rosters in the league.

2) Mac stripped this team of all the talented players it had in an effort to rebuild.

3) Most of these players are boom or bust meaning just as much as they could be home runs they could just as easily be epic busts.

4) We know Mac's history with the draft.

5) Mac is only resorting to this type of draft because he's desperate to show Jets nation some progress for their hard earned money and patience. He's aware just how behind the 8 ball he is terms of keeping his job.

6) HONEST QUESTION - Would anyone sign up for Mac still being in charge of this team in 2016 (when the rebuild started. Remember he already got a mulligan for failing to build this team into a winner building on what players were already on the roster.) after 3 seasons with 14 wins combined knowing what we know now?

Therefore, I cannot muster anything higher than a C for this draft.

I’m fine with the first 3 picks. They could all be starters within 2 yrs I think. The blocking TE will probably be useful but I did not like him in the 4th round. An undersized, unathletic, LB with multiple shoulder surgeries and a DB with 2 ACL tears and 5 games played in 2 yrs is awful. Not sure if either of them would have been drafted at all honestly. Replace those 2 guys with a C/G and a WR and this draft would have a whole different vibe I believe.

I was not impressed, Maccagnan could of and should of done better!!!!

Most of the picks have a history of injury, a maturity problem plus an undersized tackle on offense. I believe the team didn't make enough improvement through the draft. Yes, they drafted what they needed but if you look at each player drafted there is something that may hurt the team. Out of the six picks, one will be starting the season maybe two.

I believe this was Maccagnan's last draft!!!!

Apparently Mac thinks he addressed the offense with the addition of Leveon Bell and other additions.  He figured the next biggest need was to stop the other team from moving the chains, therefore giving Darnold and the improved offense more chances to score.  Toward that end he got a monster interior lineman with considerable sack ability himself, plus an edge rushing specialist on top of that. As a Jet fan sick and tired of watching the opposing QB stand behind his line and leisurely choose which of his four passing options he wants to go to, I am pleased about the one-two punch there.

Looks to me between the draft and free agency Mac did a lot to help our two most glaring needs.  So I give him a B+.

1. QUINNAN WILLIAMS  -   A+     Because they got their Edge rusher in the 3rd round. Top 3 player in draft.

 2. JACHAI POLITE     -    A+   Got their Edge rusher who was a riser on my board in the 3rd RD.

3.  CHUMA EDOGA -   B+    Was impressive at Senior Bowl and opened eyes. A Right Tackle for two years at USC

4. TREVON WESCO -    D    Not impressed by him as a receiver but he can block. Should of drafted a WR

5. BLAKE CASHMAN   A+    He should of went earlier. Jet fans is going to love this guy.

6. BLESSUAN AUSTIN   D       Incomplete.  The player is always injured. They could of drafted Jimmy Moreland at CB

So  I say looking at this I have to give the Jets a B+ to a A-

I gave it a B. Another defense-heavy draft, which is obviously unpopular with many. That said it's hard to pass on a guy like Q Williams, and Polite's potential is worth the risk where they took him. I like the OT they took with the other third rounder, but would have liked another OL selected with one of the later picks.
