Sarge.....agree with about 95% of your initial list. 1) Please, anybody, somebody, step up and get Qvale off this team. 2) You guys know I'm a NJ guy, and had a son that graduated Rutgers. You also know I'm about the most negative guy on this board when it comes to the joke that is Rutgers football. That said, this kid Austin, who we took yesterday in the 6th round, if healthy, big if, is the real deal. He could solve the issue at cb, he's that good. 3) Catanzano scares the crap out of me.

I think Derrick Jones is almost a lock to make the roster. I'd switch Tomlinsson and Sterling. I have a feeling about Dorcht.  Looking at our safeties, we are pretty thin if Maye gets hurt again. Our offensive playmakers as a group are really sad. Leveon better be Leveon.

Looking forward to seeing where Shepard and Foley fit in now .  Foley probably practice squad. Shepard rotation guy at best ?

also. Darren Lee, someone explain how a comp pick works if we keep him vs. trading him away for apparently minimal return

Who's returning kicks? I think dorsch has a good chance to make the team.

Agreed, it should be Dortsh's job to lose.   1 or 2 punt return TDs win you those games.

I hope Derick Jones gets every opportunity, love this guy for some reason.

I can't imagine Charone Peake making the team.

To the point of the thread, but more granular, who is our dime Defensive Backfield?  In 3rd and 7+ yards we can roll out a front 4 of Q, Henry Anderson, Leo and Polite with Mosley as the MLB and 6 DBs, 5 of who will be Adams, Maye, Trumaine, Poole, Roberts and then.......miles?  Lee?  I think this is going to be a great defensive package for the Jets and I dont know who fits into that role

Dortch is a threat to both Henderson as the KR/PR and Burnett as the #2 slot.

Anderson, Enunwa, Crowder and Bellamy (a Gase guy) are essentially locks. So you have 2 or 3 spots remaining for guys like Burnett, Henderson, Peake, Dortch etc to battle over.

I like Burnett a lot, but his problem is he doesn't play special teams while the other 3 guys listed there all have ST value as returners or coverage guys.

When you get down the the 5th, 6th and 7th receiver spots, ST value can be a real deciding factor.

If it was me, right now, I'd go with Anderson, Enunwa, Crowder, Bellamy, Burnett and Dortch/Henderson (whichever one looks best as the KR/PR in pre-season). If we carry a 7th, Peake could stick once again for ST value - although Bellamy is essentially now filling that role, but with added value as a WR.

So another Macc draft pick is replaced with an UDFA.

A 7th rounder that played for 3 years

thats a HR for Mac, maybe one of his top 3 picks

now waiting to see if he follows up the Stewart/ Hansen debacle with the Sheppard/ Fatukasi releases

The level of comp pick you get depends on how much another team signs the player for as well as playing time and such.  The NFL has a formula.  However it is a give and take kind of thing.  If your team signs a bunch of free agents you probably are not going to get any comp picks even if you lose players.

The jets rarely get comp picks because the team drafts poorly, has tons of cap space and often signs a lot of free agents.

Don't forget about Leggett.   He may not survive when Herndon comes back from suspension.

To me, the themes of this early roster are:

  • The position groups that really look terrible-WRs, OL (less so this year than next year), S after the two starters.
  • The position groups that have too many players (DL, EDGE, ILB).
  • CB where Mac keeps picking and signing players, but nobody seems to work out.

How do you not take a WR or OG in this draft?
