Pat Elflein had a terrible 2018 and may actually be cut. Could be an opportunity for him to turn it around. derp
I kind of wonder if Tyler Jones gets a shot at center. Read some speculation he may project there. Most intriguing UDFA to me. First team all ACC the last two years as NC State’s left tackle - three year starter at LT after starting a few games at RT and LG as a redshirt freshman. Decent athletic testing too. Short for a tackle which I get, not saying he’s Orlando Pace, but not sure why nobody drafted him to play inside. I think as a team that could use quality OL depth he carves out a roster spot. Would be especially cool if he can take center and run with it.

Mac is betting his job on this decision. Very stupid. I would have taken Michael Jordan or Gaillard. Paradis did not want to come here. They did not like Morse. Without a second we were not getting Jenkins or McCoy. Polite is a much better risk than McGovern who can’t pass block. I will give you all that. But I think a potential Center was worth it more than some of the other picks. At least he could say he tried. In the Macc press conference, he said that he moved up for Edoga in Round 3 because a couple of the players they liked had been snatched in the prior picks and they didn't want to lose out on Edoga. My assumption looking at the prior 5-10 picks was that they were planning to draft Connor McGovern and were beaten by Dallas who took him 2 picks earlier. McGovern had also made a visit to the facility. So the picks did not work out in their favor. Not having a round 2 pick eliminated them from Jenkins and McCoy. And there wasn't enough interest to trade-down from the 3rd pick. So the net result is that we are screwed a bit here. I think the Jets know that the oline is a problem right now; uncertainty at the tackle position beyond this year, with limited depth (Edoga helps there, but not entirely), decent at guard positions, but again limited depth (unless a Braden Smith develops), and complete risk at center (unless Toth is ready to compete). My assumption is that they will explore the trade market and be active during cutdowns for the line.

Here’s why Jason Kelce thinks Eagles lost to Saints in playoffs By Mike Kaye | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles’ offense was on fire during the first two drives of the team’s 20-14 divisional round loss to the New Orleans Saints in January. The Eagles built a 14-0 lead with 4:37 left in the first quarter. The Eagles wouldn’t score again after that initial burst of efficiency. Center Jason Kelce thinks he knows why the offense failed to retain its momentum throughout the playoff matchup. “I would argue, maybe, [we were] a hurt right guard away from getting back to the NFC Championship Game,” Kelce said Monday after returning to NovaCare Complex for the start of the offseason program. Starting right guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles with 6:11 left in the first quarter. He was carted off the field and veteran guard Stefen Wisniewski replaced him. The Eagles would go on to score three plays later on a one-yard quarterback sneak from Nick Foles. Following that scoring drive, the Eagles’ offense faltered for the rest of the game. With instability along the offensive line, Foles failed to find a rhythm. While Wisniewski was a serviceable replacement, he wasn’t on the same level as the two-time Pro Bowl starter. The Eagles were able to mount a potential comeback drive at the end of the game but a dropped pass by Alshon Jeffery landed in the hands of New Orleans cornerback Marshon Lattimore, causing a costly turnover in the final two minutes and clinching the win for the Saints. Brooks underwent Achilles surgery shortly after the loss. He is recovering from the procedure and his timetable for a return is unknown. The Eagles moved on from Wisniewski during free agency. While the veteran is still on the market, the Eagles seem poised to get younger at the position behind Brooks and left guard Isaac Seumalo. With Brooks set to potentially be sidelined for training camp, the Eagles may need to rely on second-year guard Matt Pryor, who failed to appear in a game last season. “Matt showed a lot of improvement throughout the season, through training camp and into the season,” Kelce said. “He’s a young guy we’re excited about, obviously.” I prefer to pass on Stefen Wisniewski. I'd imagine the Jets would have at the very least already brought him in for a kick the tires visit, but they have not. Also the Jets don't have to wait unti May 7th to sign Wisniewski, due to the fact they're not earning compensation picks in the 2020 draft. It's hard to imagine the Jets have Wisniewski in any of their contingency plans at the Center position for next season. .

peekskill68
I think people are underestimating Mac's belief in Harrison. He never showed a dime to either Paradis or Morse. He probably had a decent sense of where the top centers were going to be slotted in the draft and knew he was out of position barring some sort of low probability trade up. He should and will bring in competition for training camp but rightly or wrongly he's ready to go with Harrison. And, that may be one of the issues he and Gase are "disagreeing" about...

TheClashFan
Any chance that Leo or Lee could be dealt for a C that another team is willing to part with, like a quality guy but they have a younger, cheaper alternative ready to step up? Green Bay? BTW, read up a bit on Elfein. Former third round pick, 24 years old. Been dinged up a bit with injuries, but has not played well, esp. pass blocking. Effort has been questioned, which is never a good thing. He'd be worth a look if the Vikes dump him, but I wouldn't want to give much. Maybe he needs to get healthy and get an ornery OL coach. He's from OSU, so maybe Mangold could have a talk with him, beat him up, etc. If Mac buys enough lottery tickets, maybe a decent C will emerge.
