No matter how bad a person he may have been, no one deserves Cancer.

I don't like him, but I wish him the very best in terms of his treatment and recovery.

This is so true. Cancer doesn't discriminate. Both times that my wife had cancer we would get these messages. 99.99% of it positive and supportive. But a lot of messages seemed to be blaming her. Don't do this, do this...a lot of experts out there seem to know that eating some herb from Brazil cures all.

Cancer definitely doesn't discriminate.

Kids are playing tackle football too young. My son started playing his sophomore year in high school and was able to play college football. It is a sport that has its risks. Hopefully the helmet changes and other advances will make it safer. But having 8 year olds tackling each other needs to be a thing of the past.

It is a slippery slope. I am sure your son had a passion for the sport, the same as so many other youngsters. And how do you stifle that passion and desire?

On the other side, I have talked with high school coaches, and some of them now want to not have the kids play football at all before they get to them, so that they may teach them the correct way, and start when they are in 9th grade.

Highly recommend the Seau 30 for 30. I knew the history, but to have it played out in front of you in one stream of a story is remarkable. You see hits, that we always took for granted and were highlight reel stuff, that are just cringeworthy now. Seau said that he lived with a "headache" since he was in high school.

I was covering a Jets event for Verizon years ago and someone asked Joe Klecko about this. He described exactly what you wrote, no kid plays tackle before 9th grade. He said it is crazy to do it younger. Play flag football before that he said. His youngest son was a monster in high school. He got a D1 scholarship but didn't play that long....but if Joe Klecko is telling you it is dangerous, I would tend to believe him.

Nobodies perfect. Gastineau was a tool but also a great player for this team. Reminds me of a lot of guys who "went Hollywood" after getting a taste of the spotlight. He did a lot of things that were head scratchers and he made some bad decisions. Not defending his actions or those choices but kicking him when he is down seems petty and wrong. He's made mistakes, had some terrible moments, and done some reprehensible things. Is he guilty of these things? Yes. Has he taken responsibility? Sort of.  The thing is we have ALL done things we are not proud of. Maybe not to the extent that Gastineau has but we all have things in our past that make us ask "What was I thinking?" or "I could have handled that better." Gastineau has his flaws and is not to be made out to be a victim but he is only human and humans make mistakes.

Best sack artist Jets ever had. Could have been HOF.: Stratham would never have broken his record if Farve didn’t hand it to him and Strahan, like the jerk he is, acted like he broke the record which he DIDN'T. That last sack should never have counted! In my eyes Gas holds the all time sack record in a  year.

It's always burned my a** how Strahan was handed the record by the Packers and no one said a word. I've always felt that the NFL just wanted to get Gastineau out of the record book and didn't care how.

I was wondering if that's what you meant. Obviously cant discuss here but that book seems to be too light on consent and too heavy on control for my tastes.

I took a helmet to the chin in the 9th grade.... quit almost the next day.  I saw how easily I could get really Hurt.   screwed up part? It was practice and a fellow teammate was just trying to impress the coach.  Coaches play an important role too.  The yells of ... hit him harder, knock him on his ass etc.

I wouldn't knock his boxing skills either. Saw an interesting documentary on him, and a boxing expert said that Gastineau was a phenomnol athlete with boxing skills, but because he started boxing so late in his career, he couldn't overcome that lack of experience when going against guys who had been training and boxing their entire lives.

Yes well as a leading partially nude male photo curator you were able to quickly discern the excellent quality of the piece and alert your friends. Similiar to hearing a great new band and sending your buddies a link, for that I think we are all appreciative.

It must have been very exciting for you to have one of your Google searches for “sweaty football players” bring you right back to JetNation. Like throwing a gay porn boomerang.
