F00tballGuy69
I've been hard on Lee, but this is awful value. I'd have been content with a pick somewhere in the middle of the 5th, but this will be a very late 6th, pretty much a 7th rounder. Would have rather seen him stay as a backup with the off chance he played well enough to sign a decent contract somewhere else next year to fetch us a comp pick. I'm sure Gregg Williams wanted nothing to do with the guy.

Eaton Beaver
I am sure that Gase isn't sitting in an office alone making these decisions. C'mon, you know they have people with experience helping him hold the fort down till they hire the new GM. So lets just sit back and not bash Gates for things beyond his control just because you were Mac lovers. I for one don't think this was a bad move at all, they had to move him and they are lucky someone wanted him before they cut him. 2

Snell41
You dont think he'll make the roster? Was expecting more return but yeah, the suspension, and the fact that he's not that great. I guess it's about right, actually. Nope. He’s a positionless player. He was some pipe dream Bowles had to make him some hybrid linebacker. KC is gonna take a look because he has speed, but ultimately no they’re willing to create some hybrid position that Bowles failed at, he’s not going to make the team. He can’t cover to play safety and he’s too small at LB.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If not this, the most he'd contribute would be spending the year as a backup before walking for nothing, while also possibly not even making it out of camp. The only reason for additional comittment to Lee was Macc's desperation to not make himself look like an even bigger idiot. At worst ILB depth and a potential comp pick was worth more than what we just got. This is also a low 6th ta boot. This is the worst trade we've been a part of in quite a while actually. 1

Lith
A 6 certainly seems low, but I guess it really comes down to a trade off. After signing Mosley and Williamson last two years, it is clear Lee was not in the team's future plans. So, do you take a 6 now, or let him play out the season and leave in FA for a potential comp pick. Another suspension and you probably lose the pick. If he plays a season as a back up, you are probably not getting no more than a 5 for him. In 2021. Take the 6 now and be done with it. Not much of a return, but whatever. 3
win4ever
I don't understand this trade at all. Why would we trade Lee for a low 6th rd pick, that is going to be closer to a 7th? I don't think Lee was going to be a star, but at least he had some value as depth on the team. I don't understand the lack of urgency for depth all around the team. CB- One injury away from free fall WR- One injury away from disaster LB - One injury away from being terrible 1

My head is spinning as two of the most sought after moves by fans were finally made today, firing Macc and trading Darron Lee. And yet, we've got people b!tching and complaining left and right. Just like Macc some people wanted to hold out for some phantom team that was going to come in and offer the Jets a 3rd round pick for Lee. And as for Macc, we wanted him fired, but not in May apparently. Can't make this stuff up. Fixed costs are sunk costs. Let's not search for perfection while sacrificing the "good enough" decisions. Macc is gone, Lee is gone. We have an extra pick in 2020. The future is now. Move forward with me my brothas!!!! 5 1 3
jetstream23
The purge is on! I'm fine with it. I just hope we don't throw out the good with the bad. Guys like Leo, Jenkins, Adams, Darnold....those were good acquisitions. Don't sell them for 50 cents on the dollar just because they're not "your guys." Lee is different. He lost his starting job, he's in Year 4 and he wasn't productive. A suspension for banned substances was icing on the cake. Whether it's a 4th or a 7th, it was time to move on from Lee. I think CJ Mosely, Avery Williamson and Neville Hewitt can hold it down at ILB without the midget. 2
Carnival Barker
Right or wrong, Gase is making a statement. The disappointing LB with some attitude issues was still around because the previous "brain trust" wanted a 5th instead of a 6th. The new guy in charge (who also happens to be the head coach) is saying the compensation isn't as important as getting a potential malcontent out of the locker room, and anyone that has a problem in the future is disposable. Mangini did something similar, on a FAR bigger scale, with Mawae. He was fortunate to land a near equal player in the draft that year to seamlessly replace him. I don't hate it. 1

There's zero chance the Jets will be inactive enough in FA next year to be getting comp picks, so you can throw out that idea. It's ultimately the question if a one-year guaranteed backup is worth the Jets' giving up a 6th round pick for, because that's what they would be doing by turning down this deal. Don't get me wrong, if you would've asked me 5 months ago, I would've been adamantly opposed to such a trade, but the ridiculous Mosley deal made Lee completely meaningless to this team. Combine that with the re-sigining of Hewitt, drafting of Cashman, and reports of general distaste that both Gase and Williams had for Lee, he had a very real chance of not even making this team. Something is better than nothing. 1

I don't hate it, but I find it curious that it's been reported Gase didn't like the Bell and Mosley signings because he thought the Jets gave them too much money, but then he turns around and gives a former first round pick who would have had some value as a depth player away for pennies, just to get Lee out of the building. BTW, I do think the Jets gave far too much money to Mosley, but I also think the Jets' deal for Bell was pretty good.

Problem with Lee is he was undersized and afraid to tackle. I wud compare him to Vilma who was undersized before he juiced in NO but Wilma at 220 soaking wet was a tackling machine - after juicing he became an all-pro. Lee juiced last year and he was still on his back on most plays - some guys dont have the mental toughness to compete in the NFL, maybe Reid will put him on the same crap Dee Ford was taking last year and make a player out of him but there was no sense keeping Lee as a lame duck backup who cant even play special teams.
GreenFish
This answer a few question. Macc typically won on trades because he only took trades that were too good to pass up. the lack of draft day trades was Macc being too gun shy.

We're spending a fortune on ILB right now and Lee has been pushed out of the starting lineup. No reason to keep him hanging around. GREENBEAN
If there was ever any doubt about the validity of the internal struggle between Gase and Macc, the timing and price of the Lee trade is confirmation. It was about 6 hours after Macc was fired and Gase takes one of his 1st rd picks and ships him off for a low 6th. That's football speak for F*CK YOU BUDDY! Let's just hope there isn't a wave of emotionally motivated F U moves coming around the bend. That's why I used the word potential there. (ya like that?) Let's assume he had no positional value like you said, you don't think, as training camps move on and the injuries pile up that Lee's value wouldn't rise past a 6th from the Chiefs? I do. Now this can be considered nit picking, but I just don't see the rush here. I think this has much more to do with the statement Gase is making to Macc on his way out which is Go F yourself than any real football value. I wish everyone would just accept that and quit trying to make this a smart move. It's simply not.
BornJetsFan1983
Great move. Seriously all the people who wanted Lee gone now all of sudden don't think a 6th is enough. @jetstream23 I think said it best but yeah we hate Macc but apparently not in May .. so ridiculous. I love these loves these moves.. Macc gone, Lee gone, get rid of anyone else that under performs. A guy off the street with upside or in this case a draft pick (cashman) is way better than a known let down. Glad to see we finally have a head coach and GM that finally realized it.
