Stop blaming the owner, you idiots

Recommended Posts

Where the owners deserve blame amongst many things is their complete failure in finding new rising talent to fill the key management roles of this team.  From general manager to head coach they continually fail to either attract or choose the right people.  So many of these hires are in over their heads from day 1.  John Idzik would never have been hired by any team as a GM.  He was a numbers guy.  He will never get a GM offer in NFL again.  Mike Macagnan will probably never get another GM job again.  He is clearly more suited for a job in a personnel department or scouting department.  Todd Bowles clearly over his head an no clue how a $2 billion dollar franchise came away from any interview with Todd and said we have to make this guy the face of the franchise and lead us.  hard to believe he will ever be a head coach again.  He too seems more suited as a D coordinator role.    They repeatedly OVER hire people and hope they become something they are not. This where the lack of a true president of football operations leaves a void and thus puts people like woody, Chris J, and Neal Glat making decisions they are clearly over their heads on.  Gase may turn out good and Darnold may be the real deal, but the disfunction that  is the front office and ownership will continue to hold us back from ultimate success.

All you can do is look at the trends and make educated guesses. SInce the Johnson's have bought the team, they have yet to hire an established General Manager or Head Coach. Gase is the first, non-first time head coach the organization has hired, and he's got three years underneath his belt so hardly established. His contract terms were never disclosed, but with an educated guess, he's probably in the bottom third of NFL HC salaries per year.

If we didnt knw any better, the Johnson's seem to run a tight budget with the personnel and football operation, and if you look at the media guide http://www.nfl.com/static/content/public/static/pdf/media-guides/NYJ-Media-Guide.pdf, the non-football guys are listed first, and it's as bloated as any public municipality in New Jersey.

There's nothing preventing the Johnson's from seeking big-time hires. Nothing. The Islanders recently got Lou Lamarillo because they paid him. The Cubs paid Theo. Hell the Knicks, as bad as it was, decided to pay Phil to run the show. You want an established person? You have to pay. The Johnson's have not.

Float the idea out to league circles that the Jets are willing to pay for someone to take over the organization. You'll get everyone from Roseman to Snead to Schneider willing to listen if the price is right. These guys enjoy a challenge.

The Johnson's are some of the best owners in the NFL.

They spend money, that is literally all that you can ask an owner to do.

Mac and Bowels were given plenty of time and resources to win- they didn't.

The idea that the Jets are dysfunctional because the owner "meddles" is absurd. The Jets sucked because Mac and Bowels sucked.

You don't get it.  Too bad.

It all starts at the top.
