Cimini radio hit this morning

2nd year for Darnold.

Didn't lose anyone worth mentioning (other than the All-Pro Kicker).

Bell is a massive upgrade.

Crowder is a huge weapon underneath.

O-Line may not be what I want, but HAS been improved.

And Gase is supposed to be a QB/Offensive genius.

There is every reason to have high expectations for the performance of this offense this year.

What.... Positivity.... get out of here... that is not allowed in these forums...

Rich Cimini is on the SiriusXM NFL Morning Show talking Jets today. Here's what he has to say.

Thanks Douglas remains the heavy favorite and in Ciminis opinion he is the best candidate

Thinks that Bell won't do much this week, just get familiar with the team. Thanks darnold has looked really sharp. The cornerback situation has jumped out at him in a negative way. The host says he knows Brian Pool going back to high school and that pool is going to be an excellent slot corner.

Curious to see how the Jets line-up the DL. Looking forward to interviewing Greg Williams, who's not a quiet guy. Jerry different vibe at practice this year from the coaches. Big question with polite is what weight is he going to be play at. He thinks they're going to aim to get him to 235

Donald's weapons are definitely better than last year. Crowder brings another dimension, he hasn't studied him because he was in the NFC, but the short area quickness is showing up in practices. Crowder really separates quickly which will help darnold.

Darnold looks a lot better at the line of scrimmage from year 1 to year 2. Darnold's read-option run in practice the other day was an audible after Jamal Adams correctly called out the play as a run to the left.

Still 15 lbs. heavier that Darron Lee :rip:

Lets hope no one tears their Achilles this year then. :(

No reason to curse ourselves expecting some disaster.  If one will come, it will come.  It hasn't come yet.

Till then, we have every reason to expect a materially more productive offense in 2019.

materially better than 4-12 doesn't mean 12-4

side note there is something called the sophomore slump when it comes to Sam Darnold. He's still 22.

Adam Gase looks like a lunatic who escaped from Pilgrim State

they play the cheatriots twice

there's tons of reasons to expect disaster this board/fanbase are experts at hiding themselves from these reasons

Materially better (to me) means not ranked 23rd in points and 29th in yards, as we were in 2018.

I expect a middle-of-NFL level finish for this offense.  If we finish the year 15th in points and 15th in yards, I'll be very pleased.

Always a possibility.  I don't expect that, personally.

He does.  And he's not my choice.  But he's the guy, and he should do a materially better job running our offense than Bowles did.

And may still lose twice.  But maybe we'll lose 28-27 instead of 38-3 this time.

I don't agree.  There is no reason (at least not an obvious, high-probability reason) to "expect disaster".

We're better almost everywhere across the board.  We play a weaker schedule.  I expect a better Offense, and a better record (my expectations are 8-8 minimum, of I will be disappointed in the team).

This isn't CFB no one cares if it's a 1 point loss or a 100 point loss

the schedule im not sure is weaker. there are at least 3 teams in the NFC east better than them, the Steelers will take over our stadium and at Baltmore sucks. they don't travel far but it's a tough schedule

You're right. They should just give up now. Don't even bother playing this season. Maybe even fold the franchise.

All because there's a chance that something might go wrong.

I'm not a gambler, but I think that's a good bet. Jets underachieved last year. Recent history says they generally do well in the first year with a new coach. Safe to assume Gase and Williams are lighting a much hotter fire under these players' asses than they're used to. Five-hundred or better seems like a legitimate possibility.

And I'd rather be an expert on having fun than an expert on being a stick in the mud covered with a wet blanket.

I care.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I see going from losing 38-3 to Brady and Co. to playing them tight and maybe losing 28-27 (or maybe winning) to be a step in the right, winning/competative, direction.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Well, at the end of the day, no one is requiring you be think our offense, or record, will be better.  I think we will, for the reasons stated above.  I don't see anything here to change that view as yet.

We lost an all pro returner who ended up with our rival Bills.

Field position to start offensive drives are important, and we lost, actually cut an all pro in that department.

If I was a gambler, or lived in a State that allowed Sports Betting, I probably would drop a $100 that we win 8 games (or more), and exceed the 7 win expectation.

We have a number of people on the roster who potentially can return kicks.  The kick return game is also the least relevant it's been in NFL history at this point.  I don't think we're going to lose games because of kick returning (barring someone with fumbleitis, of course).

Its one thing to talk about it, it's another to actually drop the cash money in person. I've done it by the way. I've lost this season over bet the last 3 years in a row "Just for fun"

now I'm wondering if those lines are super tight because the people in charge went game by game and realize they can't get to 8 wins unless they sweep Buffalo and Miami

Darnold got markedly better the last quarter of the season and then received much improved offensive personnel.  You would have to be a world-class pessimist to expect a sophomore slump.

Sure, we have a number of people who can return kicks, but which one can do it at an all pro level?  The kick return game is at its least relevance in it's NFL history at this point, but that doesnt make it an irrelevant skill to have, especially if we're talking an all pro skillset. It's still relevant since the league are still doing kickoffs and punts. I say that the kick return game is even more relevant now given that the NFL is trying to make it a non-factor. So if you're a team that is able to make it a factor then that's an immediate advantage for you against your opponent given that your opponent probably doesnt have that advantage given the attempt by the league to neutralize it.

Kick returns still provide the opportunity to flip the field if you have a talented returner. I can recall atleast two games where Roberts return skills set the Jets up to put up double digit points in games. The Vikings game that we lost because outside of Roberts putting the Jets in great field position...the Jets offense couldnt move the ball, and of course the 2nd Bills game where it was Roberts kickoff return game that kept the Jets within reach during that first half in order to keep that game from getting out of control, and at the end we squeezed out that victory.

Roberts returns were so devastating during that game that for the entire 2nd half the Bills simply squib kicked for the rest of the day.

Also, It was Andre Roberts who completely destroyed that Lions special teams squad in week 1 so thoroughly that his 14 points alone put that game into blow out status to the point that it made Jets fans forget that our offense started the season with a pick 6.

It should be, it could help be the difference between winning and losing.

But as long as the Jets remain medicore at every position given that it's okay to revert back to the mean, it seems like things are right on schedule.

He's atrocious. I actually listen to music again driving to work. Fat Charlie is terrible on the radio, zero insight beyond reminding people that he used to be with the Patriots and repeating ad nauseum that he coached "Tawmy".....awful. Shocked he's still on the air.

Agreed. They are actually pretty well stacked with potential returners. And while I really liked Roberts, he is 31 coming off a career year in both yards per punt and kickoff returns. The odds of him repeating those numbers was pretty slim

Crowder is a really good punt returner if the Jets choose to use him in that role.

Cannon seems to have the traits of a really good returner. Should be more comfortable in year 2. Greg Dortch likewise has the tools that could translate into a return specialist.

We also claimed Quadree Henderson from the Giants and I remember him being a great return man in college for Pitt.

Probably no one.  It simply doesn't worry me, if I were being honest.  I'm far more worried about the FG kicker tbqh.

It's nice to have so little to be worried about that we're obsessive over kick returner instead of QB, RB, TE or WR.

I have faith someone will emerge and be an average enough kick returner, and that will be enough.

Also, not to be pedantic, but Kick Returner is Special Teams.  I was talking about the Offense. :)

Call me overly optimistic, but I really like some of the players we brought in this year.

Bell, obviously, especially at a much lower price than I was expecting.

Love the draft of Q and Jachai and I think KO on the line is going to make the unit as a whole tremendously better.

But Crowder....I think Crowder can be a game changer in Gase's offense.  He's got the skill set to really put up some big numbers.  Maybe not big TD numbers but Jarvis Landry like numbers - close to 100 catches and 1000 yards.

Landry made what....three pro-bowls under Gase and then bitched about how he was being used.

People tend to forget that and just focus on the fact that there was a "rift" between Landry and Gase....but dude put Landry in a system that took him to three probowls yet he was still disgruntled, so I'm gonna lean on the side of Gase in that fight.

If you're a hardcore gambler betting big $$$, I suppose.

For a normal guy, no, it's really not.  If I bet $100 or bet nothing, it's not really materially different tbqh Bit.

And if you're betting material sums of money on the Jets, or the NFL at all, well........you probably need help.  Gambling addiction treatment services exist for a reason.

I appreciate Vegas generally gets it right, and I agree with them, 7 wins is a pretty solid line for betting purposes.

Doesn't mean we won't win 8.  Or more.  Every year teams beat (or way under perform) the odds.

We'll just have to see.
