GREENBEAN
Additionally, the Jets filled some front office positions by promoting holdovers brought in by previous regimes. Eleventh-year Jets staffer Greg Nemjeh will become the team’s new director of pro personnel, and 13th-year Jets staffer Dan Zbojovsky the team’s new director of personnel operations. Kevin Murphy, a Jets pro scout the past two years, will rise to the position of pro scouting director. The team also added Chris Nolan as a college scout. Nolan was an Eagles staffer during Douglas’ Philadelphia stay. Nolan will serve as an area scout, per veteran NFL reporter Howard Balzer (on Twitter). GREENBEAN
By Mark Heim | mheim@al.com Phil Savage is back in the NFL. The Mobile native, who was most recently the GM of the Arizona Hotshots of the now-folded Alliance of American Football, was named a New York Jets senior advisor Wednesday. “I’m very thankful for this new assignment with the New York Jets,” Savage told AL.com on Wednesday night. “General manager Joe Douglas and I got back nearly 20 years to our Baltimore Ravens’ days, and I am so honored to be a part of his first staff.” Savage, who was the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl from 2012-2018 and was also a color analyst for the Crimson Tide Sports Network, was Douglas’ boss with the Baltimore Ravens as the director of college scouting and director of player personnel from 2000-2004 before becoming Cleveland’s general manager in 2005. “I believe my best football is still ahead of me and am hopeful that I can make a positive contribution to the organization and team,” Savage said. Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, said the move makes sense for both Savage and the Jets. “At the end of the day, you’re an evaluator,” said Nagy, who joined me and Lee Shirvanian on Wednesday during “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5. “You’re a high-paid scout. You don’t do anything except football. Now that Joe is in that general manager role he’ll be doing 80 percent of other things and 20 percent football. His role will flip. “Phil’s been exposed to all the media, public speaking, the business aspect, so there will be pitfalls that Phil will help Joe avoid. That’s huge.” The Jets also announced Douglas hired Rex Hogan as assistant general manager and Chad Alexander as director of player personnel. Douglas also promoted Greg Nejmeh to director of pro personnel, Dan Zbojovsky to director of personnel operations and Kevin Murphy to assistant director of pro scouting, and added Chris Nolan to the staff as a college scout. “I am excited to add these four talented men to our group,” Douglas said in a release on New York Jets’ web site. “They will help us find the right players as we continue to develop our culture. You need to build depth in an organization at all spots and that includes the front office. Greg, Dan and Kevin are bright football minds who I’m happy to work alongside. We have a lot of good people here and this is only going to help us collectively move forward.”

johnnysd
Pretty amazing. A few weeks ago Gase was Brutus the new GM would be a puppet without roster control and the Jets were in full clown shoe mode according to the "media" But now we have an experienced and deep personnel office, and one of the brightest GM candidates in Douglas. More important though is this: We went from an almost isolationist front office regime, that was not well connected, not respected and known for being indecisive to one of the more connected regimes both at the Pro Level, and especially at the college level with Savage. Pretty amazing. Then there was this tidbit: The evaluation system the Jets used under the Dunkin Donuts Slut was different for college players and pro players so it was not easy to determine if a college player was an upgrade over a veteran and vice versa. Douglas will implement a system where they are the same which makes for easy comparisons. It's an Ozzie Newsome thing. Say what you will but Chris Johnson is sort of killing it lately.

GREENBEAN
Nobody thought this who has any understanding of what really was going on99% of people thought that from top to bottom of the understanding chart. It’s how it looked and when you factor in the Jets history, even just the past decade, it was well supported negativity. I am ecstatic with how this all worked out but let’s not act like this doesn’t have the potential to be strongest month of moves /hires in jets history. This is simply not the norm. I’m in 100% but I was about as skeptical as I could be after the rumblings of the rift came true and the 200% wrong proclamation by mindless Mehta. It was a bloodbath and for once the jets seemingly come out on top. May it be the sign of things to come.
