Wow good thing jets didn’t draft this guy. I could imagine how this board would look today with this news if they did

meh - folks said the same about David DeCastro when he was injured in the preseason but 8 years later the Jets repetitive DL pick Quinton Coples is out of the league and DeCastro is still an anchor for the Steeler Offensive Line

He hurt his shoulder in a Bengals practice. If he was drafted by the Jets, there is no way to be certain that he would have been injured.

Guess Macc's hatred of using a top pick on a OL benefited us in some mysterious way.

Bengals expect Jonah Williams to miss season

The Bengals are expected to lose their first-round draft pick for the entire 2019 season.

Cincinnati announced today that rookie left tackle Jonah Williams had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and is likely to miss the year. He was injured during a practice this month.

“We look forward to Jonah being a major contributor in the future, and know that he won’t let this injury deter him from still being an important part of this team,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said. “We’re confident in our offensive line personnel as we head into training camp, and we believe they can do their part in helping this team achieve its goals.”

Williams was an All-American at Alabama last season and the Bengals took him with the 11th overall pick in the draft. Cincinnati was expecting Williams to be a starter from Day One, but now that will wait until Day One of the 2020 season.

dont they give these guys physicals?  The OTAs are no contact, arent they?

Seems like every year some top pick gets hurt.  Luck of the draw tbqh.  Could just as easily happen to us.  Lets hope it doesn't.

True, but it looks like 90% of them are Bengals. :)

When did he even get hurt? There's no mention of this in the article, only that he was held out of mini camp due to injury.

Ross is brutal.  He’s a Devin Smith clone I listened to a Panthers Bengals game on radio last year the announcer was KILLING Ross for giving up on a route that ended up in an interception for the DB who covered him

Technically this, yes. Hard to say if it was likely to happen early/often without knowing anything about the play or drill in which it happened.

Sucks for player and team all the same.

When it rains it pours.

Just read Chris Boling, starting RG, might be “done”.

Hasn't been at spring practices.

Oooooof.

Good news for the Bengals that they still had Cordy Glenn around to handle LT duties.  But its unfortunate for both Williams and the Bengals that he couldn't have a healthy season to break into the group as starting RT or a G while getting groomed as a possible LT.

I don't think he ends up a LT long-term, but after drafting him that high, you at least have to see if the guy can become one before kicking him to RT or inside.  This pushes back his development a year, which is unfortunate.

He was already the starting LT before he got hurt.

Come on now, don't you think that is a little harsh? Bengals have had some terrible luck with their first round draft picks.

Sure, but that could have easily changed over the course of the summer.  A depth chart in June doesn't mean much.

which is why they moved Glenn to LG and Williams to LT in the first place

Christian Westerman will inherit the job. He's... big.

That shoulder injury he has is a killer especially for an Offensive Lineman he might be retired in a couple years
