There has to be more to this signing then what has been reported. The timing is bizarre.

We've had the cap space all along. Why wait until a week into camp?

Either way his experience and vet presence are a good add for this team

Edit: is Harrison getting pinched for PEDs (speculating)?

Smart veteran didn't want to practice in gear when it's 100 degrees.

Rapoport's report on NFL network said that Douglas had been talking to him for 6 weeks.  Only agreed to come out of retirement today.

For what its worth,, PFF had him as their 16th ranked C.  Harrison was 30th and Long 37th.  He is not the All Pro that he once was, but he is an upgrade.  And we did not have to give up anything (other than $$) to get him.

And has zero impact on future cap. Win Win for both.

Actually, I think it does impact future cap since unused cap space from this year is rolled forward.  $8MM incremental spend this year means that much less in carryover cap space.  Still a good use of resource in my view.

Because they've been in discussion for weeks according to NFLN

This is a big time move. I say that because the amount of money is huge, but JD and Gase must feel very good about this guy. Improves the OL with depth and experience right away. Ya gotta feel good about where this team is headed, on the field and off.

WE'll see how this goes.  Missed 8 games in 2016.  Had a serious neck injury in 2017 and missed 10 games.  Played last year, but was in constant pain, and that's why he retired.

Guys 34.   Wondering why he's coming back, and what he's got left.

Maybe after his drug test he will just smoke masses amounts of Marijuana for the pain and make it through the season like 75% of the league does now that pain killers are more closely watched.
