Did Bellamy's 52 yards get Peake cut?

Recommended Posts

Bellamy looked good vs the Eagles with 5 catches for 52 yards. He looked like a guy that could fill in if you need him. When they have two injured wideouts, that kind of game. Peake never seemed like he would help receiving wise but was great on special teams.

So did Bellamy take Peake's spot based on week 4 in the preseason? Or was this decision made before that? What do you think?

I think it's obvious he took his spot. The Jets haven't seriously looked at Peake as a WR for 2 years... He's been decent on ST, but that should be in addition to, in most cases. But he had the Macc hall pass.

My only problem is, Bellamy, Dortch, Crowder.... there's some redundancy there.

I know but do you think the Eagles game tipped the scales? Bellamy looked good in the passing game. A lot of people said they would both make the team, I don't see how you can keep two receivers who are limited though. So the move makes sense.

I think it was Bellamy's to lose. Present Brass had no ties to Peake. He would have to have shown something to beat out Bellamy, not the other way around. Burnett was competing against Dortch i imagine too.

It's just too bad we don't have someone being grooming at X or Z to take over if something happens.

This is actually something that I've been thinking of writing. It's a change in philosophy, from chasing home runs to opting for safer doubles.

Macc had a tendency to chase home runs in the draft where Baltimore/Philly tend to chase doubles for depth. So a guy like Bellamy, who is great on ST, while being decent as a WR is a known double. A guy like Peake is a pure home run chase. If Peake puts together the WR part, he's a monster, but you don't know if he can.

Same with Parry Nickerson, where the allure of potential makes you excuse the issues.

It's also why I thought Winovich was the choice over Polite, but I have to say I'm surprised by that cut. Anyway, I might try to put something together on the change in roster building culture if I have time on Monday.

It sucks because as fans, most are addicted to chasing home runs. The moment a Nickerson is picked, we go "oh boy, if he puts it together" dreams.

Gase and Douglass both knew Bellamy from Chicago.  If it’s a tie it will go to who they are more comfortable with maybe?

Or you can say the other guy Peake-d out.

Agreed. Esp with Herndon suspended who are we throwing jump ball drill to in Endzone right now?

Didn’t we give Bellamy a 2 year contract with a bunch of money?

That was probably the tie breaker.

Bellamy showed why Gase likes him. No nonsense, knows his role and comes to play.

The day we signed Bellamy, Peake's fate was probably sealed.

I always thought Peake has been hanging on the last couple of years. Bellamy showed something as a WR. Peake never did.

Dortch may have taken Burnett's since Dortch is the 2nd string slot WR and though smaller is faster.
