sorry to ask an off topic question, but what is the criteria for a player to be signed to a practice squad?

I think they have to go unclaimed on waivers by every team

Why don’t we keep him on the PS then? Good source of revenue.

You have to spend money to make money.

So which pick is worse, a 2nd rounder who never plays a down, but at least sticks on the roster two years, or a 3rd rounder who is cut after 4 months?

Macc couldn’t make the playoffs in my fantasy football league. The one my European girlfriend won second place in last year with zero understanding of the game.

Well, the only real difference is that with Hack the braintrust who drafted him was still around to hope the pick panned out. Douglas had no allegiance to Polite. It’s clear neither deserved to make the roster based on merit.

My niece said she used to text with him when he first got here, hmm. She didn't even know him, makes me wonder. Wonder if he had a problem with the ladies?? Just guessing. See ya, Jacko.

The 6th pick of first round pre-rookie capped contracts that never recorded a sack or FF and averaged less than 1/3 of a tackle per game.

Jachai Polite wasn’t just bad – he was disciplinary headache for Jets, too

Updated 2:21 PM; Today 2:19 PM
ADDITIONAL ARTICLE

By Matt Stypulkoski | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Jachai Polite tallied all of five tackles and three quarterback hurries in 107 preseason snaps for the Jets. His play in practice, mostly with the third-string defense, wasn’t much better.

But it turns out his poor performance was only one factor in Jets general manager Joe Douglas’ decision to cut him on Saturday afternoon.

The 2019 third-round pick was also a disciplinary disaster. According to ProFootballTalk, the Jets fined Polite more than $100,000 for showing up late and other infractions. That’s a pretty impressive total, considering Polite was only with the team for four months.

That could also explain why the No. 68 overall selection slipped through the waiver wire untouched Sunday, before landing on the Seahawks’ practice squad.

Basically, Polite’s brief tenure with the Jets’ confirmed the NFL’s worst fears about him.

A few months before the draft, Polite was projected as a first-round pick. But he slipped into the third round because of a poor pre-draft showing, including brutally bad team interviews at the NFL Combine and questions about his character. Then-Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan rolled the dice on him anyway, hoping that the team could keep Polite in check.

That experiment apparently went sideways – fast.

On the bright side, Polite will be able to pay those fines without issue; the Jets paid him a $1.12 million signing bonus. In other words, they paid him nearly $300,000 per preseason game he played.

Polite will get a second chance in Seattle. But he has a big hill to climb, now that he’s fallen all the way from elite prospect to just another rookie on the practice squad.

Dang. After taxes and after fines, that signing bonus almost gets cut in half. Now he’s getting paid practice squad money.

500K is great way to start you life but it’ll go fast if he doesn’t correct the errors of his ways.

So maybe it wasn’t “bad advice” during the pre-draft process after all and he’s just a lazy bum with no desire to succeed in the NFL?

I view it as absolutely essential that a GM and his team Have a vetting process for this. Look at all the troubled players . Rarely do they pan out. Jamis Winston for example....  MAC is the ultimate arsehole.  Drafts project picks , troubled players etc.

100K in fines in only 4 months is crazy!!!  At least we know the reason for him being gone

Yes and it puts to bed the lie that the Jets were somehow picking on him because Mac drafted him and weren't giving a fair chance!

So, kind of like they have those Heisman House commercials during college football games, we should have Macc's basement ads during our games.  It getting crowded down there: Hack, Polite, Stewart, Hansen, Mauldin, Donahue, Jarvis Harrison.  Maybe a couple more.

Devin Smith made it out of the basement yesterday.   Pretty sure he is still on Cowboys roster.
