which is why sam was throwing off his back foot.  still as young as the rookie qbs and clearly didn't trust his line.

like it or not darnold seems to be much better with herndon playing.

yeah OK but do we think Josh Allen trusted his line? The guy was strip sacked fumbled, threw a pick 6 and kept throwing

The Buffalo line stinks worse... right tackle TY Nsekhe was literally getting knocked over backwards like a tree going timber.

the real concern was play calling I don't know what they were doing running 4th and 1 (bell bailed them out) basically i understand why the 22 year old QB got rattled but Gase never settled him down, never opened up the playbook (if there is a playbook) and that's hugely troubling

different qbs - allen lives with the turnovers and overall plays a reckless game.  darnold is a pocket passer who excels at throwing on the run.

if you switched the qbs yesterday buffalo wins by 30 with all the turnovers.

Darnold led the league in interceptions last year for most of the season and started his NFL career with a pick 6 in detroit

both of these guys are turnover prone, our guy made fewer plays that is the bottom line

again... this is supposed to be Gase's thing.. developing the QB

This is a huge point. Gase's gameplan limited Darnold and didn't let him risk tougher throws. No risk, no reward. They should have opened up the gameplan and let him make some riskier throws. The Bills let Allen keep making those throws and thus the result.

Gase was scared and playing scared never works.

darnold is trying not to be turnover prone and it hurt him yesterday.  he didn't take the risks that allen took, and he needed to b/c his team is worse.  darnold is also improving by not turning it over, past 5 games are very encouraging.

main point was that darnold was throwing off his back foot b/c he didn't trust the line.

they convinced themselves that 16 points (8 by the offense) would be enough to win

7 minutes left in the 4th quarter, up by 6, it's 2nd and 13 how about a dive to Bell?

if Todd Bowles pulled this stunt, the fan base would have gone ballistic

gase is getting the benefit of the doubt because we don't want to confront the idea he's a con man (and so is Gregg WIlliams)

Yeah. You either have to live with the turnovers and hope he figures it out, but hamstringing the offense with checkdowns all day is as boring as it gets. Just wasting everyone's time when there are other NFL teams playing trying to score points quickly. Some guys figure it out and some dont (Jameis). But if Gase is looking to turn Darnold into Pennington or Tannehill then it's going to be a long boring season.

gase thought he would win if they didn't turn it over.  he should have paid more attention to how the dolphins schooled the jets.  he should have known better.

if they are rushing 5 and 6 and Gase is flooding the field with targets, there's no line in the universe who will give a QB 3 seconds.

someone will be coming unblocked it's up to Darnold to either recognise it pre-snap or make a hot throw

The line did a good job run blocking yesterday and that's the real test of a line's meddle not whether 5 guys can block 6

there was 7 minutes left not 70 seconds

it was gross mis-management and after that play 3rd and 12 they run a  WR screen with no chance of getting the first down

it's just disheartening... looking at some of these decisions (scroll down to the full play by play)

the play calling was worse than the line. It was almost as bad as the kicking

I'm really hoping the super tight playcalling was an overreaction to the OL situation.  They have to know that the OL is likely to stink all year, but esp. early on b/c the 5 starters did not get to play together at all in any preseason games, and Khalil was almost certain to be shaky.  He might be "toast" and all, but let's give him a couple of more weeks before giving up on him.

As for Gase, he's got to open it up a bit.  If 2-3 weeks from now he still hasn't, that will be a very bad sign long term.
