Field Yates @FieldYates

The Browns have waived LB Malik Jefferson, who has appeared in all nine games this season playing mostly on special teams.

2018 3rd Round pick of Bengals..Jefferson was waived during final roster cuts on August 31, 2019.

Cleveland Browns

Jefferson was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns on September 1, 2019.

On December 31, 2017, Jefferson released a statement through The Player's Tribune announcing his decision to forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the 2018 NFL Draft. Jefferson ignored recommendations from the College Advisory Board to return to college and chose to enter the draft instead. He attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and completed the majority of drills, but opted to skip the three-cone drill and short shuttle. On March 28, 2018, he participated at Texas' pro day and performed the vertical jump (37"), short shuttle, and three-cone drill. At the conclusion of the pre-draft process, Jefferson was projected to be a second round pick by NFL draft experts and scouts. He was ranked the second best inside linebacker prospect in the draft by DraftScouts.com and was ranked the eighth best linebacker by Scouts Inc. and Sports Illustrated.

NFL rumors: Former Eagles 1st-round pick works out for Atlanta Falcons

Marcus Smith

SJN

Former Philadelphia Eagles DE Marcus Smith worked out for the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, according to NFL Insider Adam Caplan.

Former Eagles defensive end Marcus Smith worked out for the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, according to Sirius XM’s Adam Caplan.

The former first-round pick was released by the Washington Redskins in August and has been a free agent ever since. Smith spent last season with Washington, appearing in two games.

Prior to joining the Redskins, Smith spent the 2017 season with the Seattle Seahawks. In 14 games, Smith produced 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He also collected the first and only pass breakup of his career.

Smith entered the league as a first-round pick of the Eagles in 2014. The Louisville alum spent just three seasons in Philadelphia. He appeared in 27 games and collected just 23 tackles and four sacks. He was released during the 2017 offseason and missed out on the team’s Super Bowl LII run.

Smith was the final first-round pick of general manager Howie Roseman’s first tenure as the head of the Eagles’ front office. Despite his link to Roseman, Smith only lasted one season after Roseman returned to power in the wake of Chip Kelly’s dismissal.

The 6-foot-3, 258-pound pass rusher has always been a hybrid player. His lack of a true position has caused issues for the once-promising prospect.

However, Smith’s experience in the Seahawks’ defense could make him appealing to the Falcons. Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator in Seattle before receiving his job with the Falcons. Quinn still runs a similar defensive system to the one that Pete Carroll employs.

Smith wasn’t immediately signed after his workout with the Falcons but he could on their short list in case of injuries. While Smith has earned a “bust” label, he is still only 27 years old.
