Sucks. I like him, but he’s always hurt. He’ll come back and play elsewhere, or retire depending on severity.

Agree.  We never really got a chance to see what he could be if healthy -- saw a little glimpse of the potential in 2016; but lets face it, replacing his 3 catches and 40 yard per game career averages should not be that difficult.

What else is new?

I guess it make sense why He wasn’t getting any separation in week 1. I’ll never understand how Macc paid him over Robby ..  Quincy getting hurt is almost guaranteed his game is built for slot/TE but his body is built for the outside in terms of avoiding big hits. The good news now is we will finally have need to go receiver high next year . Instead of continuing to pretend we are good at receiver .. wish him him best though .

That sucks for Q.  Neck injuries should not be messed with.  As others have said, I imagine this is the end of the line for him.

Ok he’s done, it explains the Trade for Thomas.

SMH, Enuma is done for ever, and we have no depth.  Pure insanity, two years in, we still don't have a #1 WR for our Franchise QB and now all we have are one dimensional WRs in Robby and Crowder and a slow plodding shadow of his former self in Thomas.

They could actually cut him next year if they really wanted.  There would be a decent hit along with it ($5.4M), but would still get some savings ($2.4M next year), so if they have little enough faith in either his health or ability, the contract on its own won't be enough to keep him here.

Yup.  Pretty much stuck withthe cap hit through next season.  Probably tme for him to consider a different line of work.

Next year isn’t a bad hit at 5.4 mill. If we’re going to have a nice amount of money again, I’d consider it. He just can’t stay healthy and this is the 2nd one major injury to the same body part. It isn’t safe to continue this now.

When can we even cut him with a low salary cap hit? 2021? Lol. This sucks.

it also explains the trade for DT.

hell now that I know this, I say grab another FA WR or something. This isn’t okay to sit on. We don’t have depth to begin with.

He is in the first year of a new $36M contract.  I knew Mac wasn't clairvoyant, but the one time he was pro-active in keeping one of our players, he picked the guy who is always hurt.

I wonder when he injured it... I wonder if there will be any talk that he shouldn't have been in the game after hurting it.

Brian Costello of the New York Post is reporting that Jets wide receiver will be out for the remainder of the 2019 season with a neck injury.

BREAKING: Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa done for season with neck injury https://t.co/x5Ko1ksxov via @nypostsports

— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 11, 2019

The news is nothing new for Enunwa who missed all of 2017 with a neck injury and has missed parts of every pro season except one.  This of course explains the team’s decision to add WR Demaryius Thomas.

Figured out the answer to my own question:

https://overthecap.com/player/quincy-enunwa/3148/

Quote

Quincy Enunwa signed a four year, $36 million extension with the Jets on December 28, 2018. Enunwa received $20.25 million in guarantees, $9.17 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing. Enunwa's signing bonus was $9 million. Enunwa's 2019 and 2020 salaries are guaranteed for injury and his 2021 salary has a partial salary guarantee. Each of those salaries will become fully guaranteed if he is on the roster on the 5th day of that league year. Enunwa's salary cap number increased by $1.8 million in 2018 due to the extension.

He got a $9 million singing bonus (prorated to $1.8 million cap hit per contract year)

His base salary this year is $1 million (guaranteed for injury)

Base salary next year is $6 million (guaranteed for injury)

So if he can no longer play due to injury, he's still going to be a $6 million+ hit on the cap next year.  The plus is how they would allocate the prorated signing bonus for a retired player due to injury.

If he can actually come back and play football, then the Jets can release him before the 5th day of the 2020 league year without having to incur that $6 million 2020 base salary because it is only guaranteed for injury.  Of course if they release him before that base salary becomes fully guaranteed next spring, the remaining signing bonus will escalate leading to a $5.4 million cap hit next year.

Either way, his days as a Jet are very likely done.

Per Gase QE said after the game he didn't feel right

via NYP: Enunwa went for tests Monday, which revealed the seriousness of the injury and that he would be out for the year.

So with Shepherd suspended and Q out, that opened 2 roster spots.

1 was used for D. Thomas. Hoping they bring in one more WR. Don't want it to be Dortch or Smith from PS

Sign another RB . Move Montgomery back to WR full time.

He had some good flashes but was inconsistent and hurt a lot.

Another AWFUL signing by the previous gm.

Agreed but it's time for us to move on from the oft injured WR. I wish him well.

On a human level I feel sorry for the guy. Good guy, worked hard, another neck injury... Feels like maybe it's time to call it a career.

On a cynical Jets fan level... Another great Big Mac contract. Hopefully Demarius Thomas has something left.
