That Teddy Bridgewater trade

Nope, that's not how it works.

The trade was a late 2019 3rd for TB and an early 6th round pick.  This leads to roughly 70 points in draft value from the draft chart, or roughly a mid 4th round pick in 2019 total value.

T.B was coming off an injury and would have been signed the following year by any team in the NFL for at the very least top backup money/early starter money.  He was the face of the franchise for the Vikings the year before.  That contract would have netted a 3rd round comp pick in 2020 if the Jets qualified.  (which is typically equal to a late 4th round pick in 2019).  That's exactly the trade's value, and more or less 'explains' the pricing of the trade.

Here's the important thing to understand.  Even if the Jets didn't actually qualify for picks that year, it doesn't matter to his net value b/c SOME other team would.   So in other words if you trade your comp pick players away to another team that does qualify for the comp picks, they compensate you accordingly b/c they receive the benefit.

There is a slight difference between the mid 4th round pick we got vs the late 4th round pick we would have received, and you can think of that as the value added by the trade.   In any event, as you can see it was the signing in the first place that really gave the value and not the actual 'trade' perse.

It's ******* exactly how it works.

You act like it is all conjecture.  It already happened and we know the values.

He didn't play at all in 2018 and signed a 1 year deal.  We know what he would have brought back.  Based on what Fitzpatrick netted, it probably would have been a gross 6th round comp pick.  In 2020.   Our net was a negative offset of a 3rd for Mosley.  That means we would not have gotten a comp pick back. Not even close.

The 3rd we got ended up being 92 which is valued at 132.  The 6th we gave back was 177 worth 20.6.  The value comes out to 111.4, about the last pick of the 3rd, 1st pick in the 4th.  We did about as close as worst case as possible, and it still was equivalent to a 3rd.

Your point that other teams would get him for a comp pick also seems a little odd.  The Saints got him and obviously weren't contemplating that, since they picked him back up.  The signing was an intelligent move to get an asset, but nobody was giving up anything near a  3rd for the chance at a 2020 comp pick.

Jacoby Brisset is a poor mans Teddy Bridgewater, and he just signed a 2yr contract for 30 million dollars.  If Teddy had walked last offseason from NO (and hadn't signed a 1 year prove it deal with NO) he would have made at least that much on the open market.  That is 3rd round comp pick compensation territory.

Even the contract he signed with NO (which is a team friendly prove it deal worth 7.2 mil apy) puts him in 4th round range.  Part of the reason Mac got the deal from NO in the first place was precisely how cheap Bridgewater's contract was.  That's worth additional draft capital.

As for the rest, be sure that the Saints knew full well what he was worth on the open market, and the reason they were willing to part with draft picks was that they knew they'd get much of the value back if he had decided to leave.  Next off season, he might walk if Drew Brees keeps playing and they'll get it back there as well.  All of this is very standard GM valuation of players.

Teddy Bridgewater signed for $7.25M when he would have gotten "at least" $30M for 2 on the open market?  He signed March 15.  HE WAS ON THE ******* OPEN MARKET AND HE TOOK 1/$7.25M.  I know he went to Louisville, but I assume he can count and would have taken more if offered

Fitzpatrick got what amounts to a 1 year deal at $7M, structured as 2/$11M.  He played last year, and played fairly well, and Jason estimated he was worth a 6th.  Cam Wake got 3/$23M and he rated a 5th.  Not sure why a guy who barely got off the couch is worth more in your estimation.

The Saints were also buyers in free agency and would not have gotten sh*t back if they let Bridgewater walk.  He would have been more than cancelled out by Jared Cook.

I could be wrong, but didn’t the Jets trade TB for a 2019 3rd rd pick? That one we used to draft a player who was cut before opening day?

So basically TB was traded for nothing.

Actually the jets gave away a 6th rd pick too. So the jets spent a 6th to get rid of TB

I just wanted to add this to the things to cry upon around here ?

it sucks being a jets fan ... ?

A really bad post the day you made it was made to look even worse on Sunday.

Bridgewater is your typical Trevor Siemian-esque backup QB. If you can get a 3rd round pick for a guy like that you do it every day.

Dude Brisset is better than Bridgewater
