Realization after 2 weeks of football

And the strange place for Jets fans is that there really isnt anybody to blame. Even if they had depth they would be in trouble.

There is nowhere to place their anger and frustration. Can't put it on Gase, Can't put it on Douglas. Can't put it on Chris Johnson

The only legit place they could put it is to say "The team is cursed"

Difference between this and the garbage of the past is this is not the #Jets doing typical Jets things. It's just a lot of injuries. It's a freak thing you can't explain. The Jets have done enough self-inflicted damage to themselves over the decades. This isn't one of those times

If they stayed healthy (or get healthy) they could have/could win 10 games.  Unless Sam can't play they won't have a top 10 pick.  People always overreact to week 1.  Remember week 1 last year?  It's 1 game.

Im not overreacting based on week 1, I am reacting to my original thought was we have no depth at all, and some significant holes to begin with. Now we have some key injuries and illnesses.

We have some depth just not enough.  We'll see what happens, hopefully they can win tonight and keep the team afloat while Sam is out.  If we can get him back after the bye with a win we'll be in good shape.

Im not saying anything about top flight WR's. That said, you need WR's who can get off the line, run reliable routes, get open and can grab the ball out of the air. If you don't have that, it puts so much extra pressure on your QB. Im also not overreacting off of one game, and realize that it was one game. But that said, we don't have a strong WR group at all, in fact, I would argue its a very weak overall group especially with Q done. When Herndon comes back and with Bell, the QB whomever it may be will get some help, but our Wideouts are a weak group overall and that hurts any QB no matter how you slice it.

Our WR group is/was vastly overrated because despite not being very good, it's way down on the list of problems when you consider we have no pass rusher, no corners, and weaknesses all over the offensive line.  It is, at best, our 4th most pressing need, and so, we tend to forget/pretend it's not a mediocre at best group.

Or, Gregory, they could place blame where you told us for half a decade we couldn't, on the fact that the guy building the team for all this time did a terrible job, and the 2019 Jets simply can't recover from 5 years of abysmal drafting and resource management.

Agree, I also think people were banking on Herndon who is out, which makes the receiving group look even worse.

This roster is so sub-standard it’s vomit worthy. Guys are entitled to get psyched for the new season, but to argue Sam is already a franchise QB and that we’re a playoff team because of Leveon is foolish, and it’s all I saw here this summer. Nothing is establish with this team besides the FACT that they’ve drafted horrifically for a decade.

Did anyone see Julio Jones last night? Anyone who argues weapons don’t matter for a QB need their head examined or should just acknowledge they know nothing at all about football.....

Big Ben has been nothing without his targets.....

Good WRs make a huge difference

Anderlols is a "nice to have" #3/#4 on most teams.  The "deep guy" that a big-armed QB can use once in a while for a big gainer or reverse or the like.  He is no one's #1 WR in this league.  Leaning on him to be a legit #1 is a fools errand.

Deep guys have places on all rosters.  He can get you 10 TDs a year if the throws are made. That's a decent asset.

He's not to blame for th erest of the roster. He should have a 10 yr career bar injury.

Robby is a fringe 2, and on most decent offenses he'd probably just be the deep guy. Love the value we got in him as a UDFA but he has become too big a part of our offense considering his skill set.

The WR group needs an overhaul this off-season

WR’s, OL, CBs, Kickers, RB’s (4 years before Bell), TEs (until Maccagnan found his one $100 bill in the street in Herndon, seeing that Tomlinson on the roster for YEARS...Jeez haha)...who needs any of those?...5 years of Maccagnan drafting.

And Maccagnan followed an even worse drafter in Idzik.

He's done now anyway, but that is 100% correct.  Enunwa was incredibly overrated by this fan base.

He is a JAG who drops a lot of passes.

He was rated highly by us Jet fans after some pretty great games with Fitzpatrick (when the caught that overtime pass to win it), and he had some games where he was amazing running after the catch. He was making plays. Then he got hurt. That doesn't mean he was never good.

No way Robbie Anderson or Quincy make another NFL team's 1st or 2nd.   Every team seems to have 2 ~3 recievers that fights for the ball and make 1~2 incredible catches weekly bases...when have you seen Robbie or Quincy make tough catches in traffic consistantly or win 50/50 battles? Half of the teams 3rd recievers would beat out Robbie and Quincy.

yeah i had that realization a towards the season. Its crazy how they get no separation other than if a guy stumbles. Darnold throws a dime and puts it perfect. Crowder loos like a a stud on our WR team and he is barely a WR 3 per league standards. AND he looks so much better. We will see tonight but Bell and Crowder - bother FA pickups are by far our best WR's.

I think J Douglas realizes this and will build it better with some draft picks next year. But year it sucks.

Don’t remember losing our starting QB indefinitely with mono, or #2 receiver for the year before week 2?

Also having our star Defensive player out, and 3rd overall pick out.

Yeah nothing to see here, total hyperbole.

When is the last time a top flight WR helped his team win a SB?  The QB is most important but obviously you need some talent around the QB (except in NE). With our O healthy we had enough to be a top 10 type O, it would have taken a little time in a new offense but we had talent.  We have less now and who knows when Sam is back but coming into the year we had plenty of talent.  It's not fair to judge our O based on one game with a QB playing with mono, an OL that never played a snap together, missing one of top weapons in pass game against a very good D.

NE proves the point even more. You don't ened "ELITE" WRs, you need a bunch of capable receivers. Elite WR USUALLY are a bigger pita then they are worth, guys like TO, MOSS, OCHO, OBJ are all the same. Extremely talented but extremely viotile. You don't want them anywhere near your team.

The guys like Megatron, Julio, and Rice are VERY rare, and if you can get one thats great, but you don't need one. You need at least 3 guys who are just slightly better then average.

My observation? We are no where near having the o or defensive lines of the Rams or Chiefs or any of the top 10 teams. Observation- they get push.
