Pretty clear to me that Darnold is out for @Eagles and maybe @dallascowboys. See details and video reasons why at http://www.profootballdoc.com

10:50 AM - 30 Sep 2019

There is no point rushing Sam back just to watch him get murdered by the Eagles defensive line

I'm laughing a little at how CBS Sports and Bryan DeArdo are treating the spleen check like a new injury...

And also what a click batey title "grim update on the quarterbacks health"... Come on guys...

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/sam-darnold-and-adam-gase-offer-grim-update-on-the-quarterbacks-health-ahead-of-eagles-game/

While Darnold didn't discuss the specifics of his new health situation, he did mention his spleen during a recent interview with SportsNet New York.

"As Todd came onto the field, limping slightly on the left ankle that he'd sprained two quarters earlier, the rib he'd broken the week before wrapped in a Casco Rib Protector and a Byron Donzis Flak Jacket and a special amplifying microphone inside his helmet in case his voice should suddenly fail him, Tight End Jerome Barkum's thoughts journeyed backward in time."

Todd hit Jerome Barkum for a big win at Shea with busted ribs.

A broken rib is more dangerous than a potentially ruptured spleen.  Let's find us some Casco Rib Protectors and Byron Donzis Flak Jackets and get going already.

Let's stay on topic here. These sexually inappropriate pictures are not allowed here. Making fun of others is also not allowed here. Not sure how much more clear I can make it. We were banned from ad networks for a long time because of sexually inappropriate content (images). It just can't happen here, thanks for understanding and complying.

It's the photo of Richard Todd, isn't it?

That's back when ships were made of wood, and men were made of steel. Not quite but sorta true, also knowledge. RT met him at Joe Namath football camp, I think, didn't get his autograph, wonder why?

Todd was the first quarterback of my Jet fandom. I remember this game very well and have even re watched it several times.  His numbers other than two seasons were never great- but a real tough SOB and even stuffed  a Post beat writer in a locker. Believe it was Mark Cannazaro? Not positive it was him.

The sport is never as great as when you first start watching as a kid.A combination of dying a little inside with each season that passes by without never reaching a Superbowl in my lifetime- coupled with having a lot more in my life and a family of my own now. My son who is 13 is just getting started on his lifetime of Jet misery as he is not old enough to remember 2009. & 10. Makes me feel for him now watching how hard he takes all the Jets nonsense.

I try to explain how as the years go by the losing hurst less each year- the problem is the wins - when we are decent mean less too.

For my sons sake ( as well as all  young Jet fans). Hopefully they can figure it out in the next decade or so.

I just cant believe this crap. A season derailed by mono. Only the ******* jets. My entire enthusiasm for the season wiped out. Add in the fact that our high priced linebacker seems to be out indefinitely along with our 1st rd pick. This ******* cursed franchise keeps ruining my mood before we even get out of September. I'm seriously beginning to hate these guys.

Imagine thinking Sam Darnold getting mono derailed the season.

Serby. Cannizarro is too fat to fit in a locker.

“Dr” Chao said Jaylon Smith would never play football again. So take this with a grain of salt.

it didn't exactly help

here's my question at what point did Sam Darnold's getting mono become an Act of God?

the guy did something, whether it was eat at a bad restaurant or other bad mouth choices.

every other QB in the league has a wife / high priced sex worker both of which test clean monthly

every other QB has a chef and a nutritionist even if he got it from a drinking glass (hah!) his choices have consequences

they put his name on the new jersey and sold a bunch this preseason

he's the key employee of a 3 billion dollar organization

no excuses no time for losers

and I don't care that he's 22 either

dear Sam, you've missed major time last 2 seasons. stop making out with sweat hogs

salvage your career. Love the last remaining Jets fans

Chao should stick to orthopedics. 4 weeks from  onset of symptoms until risk of splenic rupture is back to baseline. See below:

Can we prevent splenic rupture for patients with infectious mononucleosis?

EVIDENCE- BASED ANSWER

All patients with infectious mononucleosis should be considered at risk for splenic rupture since clinical severity, laboratory results, and physical exam are not reliable predictors of rupture (strength of recommendation [SOR]: B, case-control study). Clinical evidence indicates that most splenic ruptures occur within 4 weeks of symptom onset, which correlates with ultrasound data showing resolution of splenomegaly by 30 days from symptom onset (SOR: B, case-control study). Given the morbidity and mortality associated with splenic rupture, instruct patients to refrain from vigorous physical activity for 1 month after symptom onset (SOR: C, expert opinion).

Evidence summary

The annual incidence of infectious mononucleosis is somewhere between 345 and 671 cases per 100,000 in the US; it is highest in the adolescent age group.1Splenic rupture is the leading cause of death in infectious mononucleosis, occurring in 0.1% to 0.2% of all cases.14 Based on this figure, approximately 100 cases of rupture may occur yearly in the US, only a few of which are reported.

A retrospective analysis of 8116 patients with infectious mononucleosis at the Mayo Clinic estimated the risk of spontaneous splenic rupture to be 0.1% of cases, correlating with rates found in other studies. The study’s criteria for definite spontaneous rupture are: no recent trauma; recent symptoms; hematologic, serologic, and histologic (splenic) evidence of infectious mononucleosis. Five patients with rupture (average age, 22) were identified; 3 were male. Splenectomy was performed for all patients. Follow-up over 33-years found all patients healthy with minimal subsequent illness.3

A review of 55 cases found almost all splenic ruptures occurred between the fourth and twenty-first days of illness, and that all affected spleens were enlarged, although only half were palpable on exam. Ninety percent of the ruptures occurred in males, and more than half were nontraumatic. There was no correlation between severity of illness and susceptibility to splenic rupture. No specifics were given on duration of illness or how splenomegaly was diagnosed.4

wat

A fractured, wayward rib can poke a hole through a lung, the heart, the aorta, the spine.  Sharp pointy things can do that when met with brute force.

A spleen is a mushy thing, like a wet sponge.  Or like liver.  Ever eat liver?  Can't puncture tin foil let alone a body organ.
