Popular Post T0mShane
He’s in a tough spot because the doctors likely don’t want him to play and Gase and Douglas are trying to run subterfuge to buy themselves a few weeks before throwing him back there. He needs to appear like he’s clawing to get back with his teammates or they’ll think he’s a poof, but he also needs to be a grown up and know that the team is doomed and rushing back to an 0-4/5/6/7 team isn’t worthwhile. I mean, CJ Mosely is the unquestioned leader of the team and he all but admitted today that he's not going to play hurt for a dead season. 13

He is literally the scene in the movie Bedazzled: Don't get me wrong, it's 110% better than say, Baker sh*ttalker Mayfield, especially if he can't back it up on the field. I prefer a maturity in my favored players, guys who act like pros, get it done, and don't need to talk any sh*t or be active on social f'ing media. But Darnold isn't that really, he's just a little kid. So he says the things he thinks he is supposed to say, which is good, if a bit vapid at times, or (in this case) silly/immature at times. Obviously suffering a near-fatal spleen-splosion isn't what anyone wants to see. But I wouldn't read too much into it tbqh.

He comes across as very immature Sounds like a kid who just wants to play ball again, who feels better, and who is just itching for the doctors to clear him. He doesn't sound stupid at all. Sorry, but this is an odd post IMO. He's going to press as much as he can. It's up to the doctors to hold him back and protect him....they are the ones who are taking the "precautionary measures." I'd much rather have this then have the doctors saying he's clear to start playing again and Sam says, "I"m not really sure....I'm just worried about it...what if they tackle me hard?"

docdhc
By the way, as per following article splenic rupture risk is essentially gone 4 weeks after onset of symptoms. Can we prevent splenic rupture for patients with infectious mononucleosis? J Fam Pract. 2005 June;54(6):536-557 By Brett H. Foreman, MD Leslie Mackler, MSLS Author and Disclosure Information PDF PDF DOWNLOAD EVIDENCE- BASED ANSWER All patients with infectious mononucleosis should be considered at risk for splenic rupture since clinical severity, laboratory results, and physical exam are not reliable predictors of rupture (strength of recommendation [SOR]: B, case-control study). Clinical evidence indicates that most splenic ruptures occur within 4 weeks of symptom onset, which correlates with ultrasound data showing resolution of splenomegaly by 30 days from symptom onset (SOR: B, case-control study). Given the morbidity and mortality associated with splenic rupture, instruct patients to refrain from vigorous physical activity for 1 month after symptom onset (SOR: C, expert opinion). Evidence summary The annual incidence of infectious mononucleosis is somewhere between 345 and 671 cases per 100,000 in the US; it is highest in the adolescent age group.1Splenic rupture is the leading cause of death in infectious mononucleosis, occurring in 0.1% to 0.2% of all cases.1- 4 Based on this figure, approximately 100 cases of rupture may occur yearly in the US, only a few of which are reported. A retrospective analysis of 8116 patients with infectious mononucleosis at the Mayo Clinic estimated the risk of spontaneous splenic rupture to be 0.1% of cases, correlating with rates found in other studies. The study’s criteria for definite spontaneous rupture are: no recent trauma; recent symptoms; hematologic, serologic, and histologic (splenic) evidence of infectious mononucleosis. Five patients with rupture (average age, 22) were identified; 3 were male. Splenectomy was performed for all patients. Follow-up over 33-years found all patients healthy with minimal subsequent illness.3 A review of 55 cases found almost all splenic ruptures occurred between the fourth and twenty-first days of illness, and that all affected spleens were enlarged, although only half were palpable on exam. Ninety percent of the ruptures occurred in males, and more than half were nontraumatic. There was no correlation between severity of illness and susceptibility to splenic rupture. No specifics were given on duration of illness or how splenomegaly was diagnosed.4 FAST TRACK

Bleedin Green
Any precautionary decision is not Darnold's to make, nor should it be. He feels like he's ready to go, but it will be up to the Jets excessively well paid medical team to make that call if he truly is healthy enough. If he gets cleared, there's no reason to believe he wouldn't want to play ASAP, as would be the case for the overwhelming majority of players. If he doesn't get cleared, then it really makes no difference how he's feeling right now. But yeah, totally stupid to defer to the guys who do this for a living over random internet speculation from a bunch of people, whether fans or beat writers, who know absolutely nothing about his current condition.

Wonderboy
He’s iffy at best. You wait until he’s totally out of harms way. Period. You don’t mess with this. Go ahead, play him, he gets a career, maybe life threatening injury and never plays again. We would be the biggest azzholes in the NFL. And it would set this franchise back yet another 3-5 years. At this point it doesn’t matter. We’re not a playoff team and have numerous flaws. Injuries ravaging both sides of the ball. It makes zero sense to rush him back. You go with what you got and wait, regroup and try to salvage some momentum in the 2nd half of the season. This team will look drastically different next year. Give time time.
