Injury List is Still Long

Jets Injury Report

There is certainly good news with Sam Darnold being cleared for contact again this week. Darnold will wear special padding to protect his spleen but he says the padding isn’t restrictive at all. He plans on wearing this special padding the rest of the season. He has been doing light conditioning, even while he was out, so he says he is in good shape and is ready to start on Sunday.

I think having a couple weeks of practices under my belt is a good thing. It’s definitely going to help with that, but there’s nothing like Sunday and I think going out there and going out there and playing the first couple series, I think will be a little bit of a shock to the system, I guess you could say. But I think I’m going to be ready and hopefully, after those couple series, I think, I’ll feel right at home.

Any hope of the Jets having a strong surrounding cast seems to be fading fast. The injury list is still long and it seems likely that the Jets will be without many key players on Sunday vs the Cowboys.

Here are the injury updates that Adam Gase gave the media on Thursday after practice.

Opening statement…
Updates here on the injury report. (Trenton) Cannon, foot/ankle, he won’t practice today, (Chris) Herndon, hamstring, he won’t practice today, Kelechi (Osemele), shoulder, won’t practice today, C.J (Mosley), groin won’t practice today, Henry (Anderson), shoulder, won’t practice today, Nate (Hairston), knee, it’s up in the air, he is trying to figure out a way to do individuals, see how he feels, we’re trying to debate whether or not he should go today or not, he is trying to go.

On if Kelechi Osemele’s injury could be long term…
I am not sure. When you get veteran O-lineman, (and they) get banged up a little bit, it’s not as easy to come back and stay on the field. We are trying to get him as healthy as we can, get back on the field.

On which of Osemele’s injuries is more severe…
For him it’s probably both. The shoulder right now, the knee does flare up on him right when he steps on the field.

On if surgery is an option…
It’s not one of those type of things, he’s just played a lot of football

On if Nate Hairston’s knee injury was a reason why he didn’t play on defense…
It kind of popped out of nowhere.

On when his injury occurred…
No, I think it was on game day. He kind of swelled up, he played and then it’s progressively gotten worse since the game, so we were kind of caught off guard a little bit

Cowboys-Jets Week 6 injury report: When will C.J. Mosley return and start earning his lucrative contract?

Updated 11:11 AM; Today 10:50 AM

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold back at practice after bout with mono

Before Friday’s practice, Jets coach Adam Gase gave an unofficial rundown of his team’s injury report for Sunday’s Week 6 home game against the Cowboys.

The Jets will release an official injury report later Friday, but Gase said middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (groin), defensive end Henry Anderson (shoulder), and left guard Kelechi Osemele (shoulder/knee/illness) all likely won’t play Sunday and won’t practice Friday.

While all three of those players have missed every practice this week, the Jets are expected to get outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins (calf) back for Sunday’s game. He was a limited practice participant Wednesday and Thursday, and will be limited or full on Friday.

This will be the fourth straight missed game for Mosley, who hasn’t played since the Sept. 8 season-opening loss to the Bills. Could he return for the Oct. 21 Monday night home game against the Patriots? The Jets badly need Mosley to come back and start earning his lucrative contract ($51 million guaranteed). He is a difference maker, but he has barely played.

Sunday will mark Anderson’s first missed game this season, while Osemele will be out for the second straight game. Expect Alex Lewis to again start in his place.

Jenkins is expected to return Sunday after a two-game absence. He last played in the Week 2 loss to the Browns, on Sept. 16. That was the Jets’ most recent home game.

(And as mentioned earlier this week, quarterback Sam Darnold will return Sunday, after recovering from mononucleosis. He hasn’t played since the opener.)

Tight end Chris Herndon isn’t officially on the roster yet, because the Jets have a roster exemption for him, as he returns from a four-game suspension (DUI crash). But Herndon isn’t going to return this week, due to a hamstring injury, and might not be ready for the Week 7 game against the Patriots. Perhaps he can return Oct. 27 in Jacksonville.

The entire NFL is banged up BUT and it needs to be said and discussed......

NE loses top WR's to injury during a game and off the bench comes guys who look equal or better than the the guys who were injured.

Same thing at RB how many RB's does this team have that would be starters all throughout the league.

Amazes me after all these years not 1 NFL team tries to be like NE they have the recipe for winning, drafting well and depth.

No one can deny this.

I'm seeing Henderson, Osemele, Cannon and Mosley and the guys who will definitely not play. That tells me (at worst) the rest of the guys should be back by next week for the Pats game (barring new injuries- obviously).

Osemele has not been a huge factor anyway and I don't mind keeping Lewis in there.

Cannon has been a non-factor anyway.

It sucks losing Henderson but with QW back the line still has depth. I liked what I saw from Willis as a backup and Phillips has played well at times.

Mosley is the only guy that really needs to get back out there to help this team defensively. Otherwise, doesn't look that bad. Looks like guys will be coming back in the next couple of weeks.

HOWEVER- the big blow is not having the guy we all expected to be back this week to give the offense a boost and that is CHRIS HERNDON. Who happens to be not on this list.

I don't know how 'well' they draft. Its all relative. They draft for their system. A lot of the guys they have play well in their system and then go elsewhere and fall off a cliff. Winning recipes, of course, that's undeniable. And there's nothing wrong with drafting that way, but its not like they always have great talent- its really hasn't been about top talent on some of their SB winning teams. These guys look good b/c they are in a well coached system that works with a HOF QB who can operate it like a wiz and who has the whole organization focused on protecting him. Just look at how many moves they made when their O-linemen started going down with injuries. I think they made like 3 trades in camp and pre-season?? All on the o-line.

And despite the fact that the Pats are undefeated, their offense did not look great with all of the injuries at WR recently. They were still able to score on the Giants but TB did not have a passing TD (2 QB sneak TDs) and against a better team I think they would have really struggled to win.

Bottom line is injuries can sink you no matter what. Depth is important but its not a cure all b/c you'll never have guys that are as good as your starters and you just have to scheme your way around it. Its where great coaching and system structure comes into play. Pats have it and Jets don't

He read Mo's book get big contract sit on butt..

I don't get the CJ hate. I don't get how this ref. to Mo Wilk is still supposed to be at all comical or thought of as interesting.

Like, what is this comment supposed to be?

CJ plays like an absolute monster in game 1. Immediately proves to everyone that he is worth every penny. He gets hurt and the Jets lose, in part b/c losing him clearly hurt their defense. Now hes not back by the time you expected him to be back. He misses 4 games and he's Mo Wilkerson? Mailing it in after signing a big contract?

I mean, look. It's a joke, I get it. But c'mon man. It's SO LAME. It's SO JETTY of you.

This might be the single worst post I have ever read. Sorry man, I like you, but this is terrible.

Yes, nobody has tried that whole drafting well thing. Why didn't I think of it lol.

Look at the depth NE has at RB mostly, WR's get injured during a game they plug and play other WR's who don't miss a step.

There OL was in disarray at the start of the season they were trading for guys daily look at it now.

They take underachieving players from other teams and turn them into superstars. Example Kyle Van Noy

Is it BB is it scouting, coaching, owners.

My post meant no harm but it seems NE does everything so well and wins and every other team in the NFL just sits back and lets it happen without copying what they are doing, drafting, free agency,UDFA,free agents, players from parts unknown.

I like you too Maxman but this is the way I see it.

Why cant the NY Jets do what their doing to reach the level of success they have reached.

Members of this forum could do a better job drafting than this team has done the last 10 years.

100%. Why the rest of the league isn't in the market for a 1st ballot HOF and greatest-of all-time Quarterback and Head Coach tandem is beyond me. You'd think the other 31 franchises would have realized this by now. Can't believe they keep letting them go undrafted and unsigned.
