" Sons of Anarchy ".. going,.. Going... GONE ~ ~ ~

Recommended Posts

The Jets have been one of the league’s worst drafting teams this decade, as highlighted by Monday’s trade.

The last member of the 2015 draft class, Leonard Williams, was dealt to the New York Giants for a third-round pick in 2020 and a fifth-round pick in 2021. With Williams not on the roster any longer, Mike Maccagnan’s first-ever draft class is now entirely gone. After taking Williams in 2015, Maccagnan selected Devin Smith in the second round, Lorenzo Mauldin in the third round, Bryce Petty in the fourth round, Jarvis Harrison in the fifth round and Deon Simon in the seventh round. Of those five players after Williams, Smith is the only one still in the NFL, playing for the Cowboys.Maccagnan wasn’t the only Jets general manager who had draft issues. Both Mike Tannenbaum and John Idzik had their fair share of bad picks. The Jets’ Sons of Anarchy — the defensive line combination of Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Damon Harrison — are all no longer with the Jets, as well.

Tannenbaum was responsible for Wilkerson, who had some strong years with the Jets before signing a massive extension, getting injured and then released. Idzik picked both Richardson and Harrison, but it was Maccagnan who decided to trade Richardson, let Harrison walk as a free agent and pay Wilkerson big bucks.Whatever way you want to look at it, the Jets haven’t done well in the draft and that’s a huge problem. The blueprint for building a successful football team starts there. The Jets have been using free agency as a way to get the team over the hump, but for the most part that has backfired on them.Current general manager Joe Douglas has yet to have his hands on a draft, but the pressure will be on him come April. He has been a well-regarded executive in this league for a long time and is supposed to have a good eye for talent. The Jets need him to prove that true.

Overall, the last five draft classes have been a disaster for the Jets and their performance on the field has reflected that. With a new regime in place, that can’t continue.

Funny how the press and some media (and some fans) clue in just now how bad mccaganan was during his tenure.  Most of these people were silent as lambs during his tenure.

~ ~ 6. RIP, Sons of Anarchy : In 2015, the Jets had, on paper, a killer defensive line -- Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Damon Harrison. They let the wrong guy walk (Harrison), and now the entire group is gone. Two words : Over. Rated.
