Lets Go Football GIF by New York Jets

Best Safety duo in the NFL.....sliced and diced by passes over the middle all game long by a rookie QB, on a day where Saquon Barkley did nothing.

Adams was one of the reason Barkley didn’t so anything, he was eating his lunch. He’s only one player he can’t do anything. His job was to contain Barkley, job done.

So Jamal is a Linebacker then.  Let's stop calling him a Safety.  Because if he's a Safety, it's not "job done" if all you're asking him to do is help stop the run.

Also, the DL had a big role to play in bottling up Barkley.  I believe there are several threads popping up talking up guys like Shepherd, Fatukaski, etc.

His job is whatever he is asked to do. Steve Atwater made a career out of it.

Not really.  He freelances at the LOS all the time.  And sometimes the team gets burned as a result.  He mostly does whatever he wants, whether it helps the team or not.

That’s what he’s told to do

Is it now.  Didn't he get benched earlier in the season, late in a game, for stat-padding?

You are assuming that the only way to get a quality CB in here is to trade Adams.  I don't buy that.  I think between the draft and FA, if we can add one above-average CB and get some improvement on the pass rush at one position, the whole defense becomes materially better.

The problem is no free agents worth a damn are likely going to come here without massively overpaying them.  Factor in the $14-$15M per we'd have to pay Adams in a contract extension, and even the overpay option will be limited.

Look at this past offseason.  We had tons of cap space.  Did any CB1's come loose for us to go after?  Nope.  We were forced to make our "big splash" at non-premium positions, ILB and RB.

It's not sustainable to wait for free agency to acquire quality players at premium positions.  We have to rely heavily on the draft for the next 1-2 offseasons.
