2020 Free Agent Olineman

Signing FA olinemen doesn't solve the problem with this oline!!! This oline needs to be rebuilt completely!!! Signing FA's isn't solving the problem its only making it worse. Almost all the current players on the Jets oline couldn't cut it on their very own team that drafted them. Which means they aren't any good or worth resigning!!! Also those player that were mentioned, Schreff, Conklin. Castnzo etc there is no guarantee that they want to sign with the Jets. We can throw all the money there way but there is absolutely no guarantee that they want to sign with the Jets. The Jets are not an attractive team and this team can't be fixed in one or two years.

This team needs to build through the draft to get better!!! Look at playoff teams or teams that are in the playoff because they built through the draft. Look at the Patriots they dominate every year because they make smart moves they don't overspend and they are drafting players to one day takeover. What have the Jets done???  The Jets management need to be smart including the ownership!!! Ownership has to let GM Joe Douglas do his job and build this team the right way!!!!

The colts have to pay Nelson soon plus no way is Brissett their qb next year they will use $$ to get a qb either trade for Eli or Cam Newton

They also need a receiver

Isn't brissett having a decent season?

How about someone from the last decade?

Like Andrew Whitworth the franchise LT Mac could have signed 4 years ago?

I think he was like too old or something

I'd take that bet. What better option is there? Cam Newton? Mariota? Brisett is far better than both

Eli Manning

Brisset is still better. He's got what 14 TDS and 3 ints on the year. Why get rid of that for Eli Manning? The dude has been done for 5 years now

Manning with that OL is better

I wonder how many decades it's going to take people to realize you don't build (especially an offensive line) through free agency.

Offensive linemen don't usually reach free agency if they have good years ahead of them. Teams let them walk for a reason. In the rare case that one becomes available, you now are forced to MASSIVELY overpay. That's all fine and dandy if that's the last remaining piece of a championship contender. But we're far from that.

Draft 5 offensive linemen this offseason.  Do it again in 2021. Hopefully Sam lives long enough to play behind the new one.

Scherff was getting abused badly in a game i watched a week or so ago.  We will have to watch  him closely in this upcoming game.  Guys that were big targets in recent years like norwall and paradis got big deals and have done poorly from reports.

Fa oline is very risky.

What we need is acquire another high pick or two so we can go heavy into the oline and still be able to take a weapon wr or olb pass rusher.

EVERYBODY in FA is risky, Pass Rushers who often benefit from D-coordinators, good secondaries or the guys around them, WRs who benefit from the guys throwing them the ball, RBs who benefit from the O-line, etc., etc. Jets desperately need O-line help and Scherff is easily the best O-lineman on the market. He would fill a huge need. I don't think they get him, but I think they have to try and I think he is worth the money. They will have young, cheap (relatively) guys around him for the foreseeable future, so I don;t think its a huge problem throwing money at him.

If we can’t land Andrew Thomas in the draft, then my preferred route might honestly be re-signing Beachum to a 1-2 year deal and taking either Jeudy or Lamb in Round 1.

Unfortunately it can't play out that way. Beachum won't still be a FA after the draft.

This is what has always made the Maccagnan planning so horrendous. It requires extending our own veterans (or signing new ones) every offseason so he didn't head into the draft with a hole there. But of course then having that hole filled, he stayed away from those OL positions in the draft year after year because it was no longer a need. Genius.

What they may very well try to do - barring the signing of someone else instead, of course - is extend Beachum but with only 1 year guaranteed. I don't know if he'll take it - he got 1.5 years guaranteed coming off a terrible season in Jacksonville - but they're going to have to guarantee some veteran at least a full 2020 salary. The alternative is to head into the draft with an outright hole at the position.

Now they could do that if they pick high enough and if the top LT prospect is surely expected to be there, but it's way too early to tell who's going to get picked when.

They might also re-sign Beachum (or sign a similar veteran, if there is one), and then if they get their man in the draft at LT anyway, he plays RT or LG or something as a rookie. Then he takes over the LT duties after Beachum gets injured again by midseason or they cut Beachum in Feb/Mar and the 2020 pick is starting at LT in 2021.

But it's really sucky that the team needs 5 starting OLmen. At best they have 3 returning - Winters, Edoga, and Harrison - and none of them are good.

Trent Brown has battle numerous injuries this year, but when he’s in there he one of the best Rt’s in the game.  ( thanks to trade of Osemele - they were able to target him day one in Fa .The Raiders need a healthy Trent Brown down the stretch .   They were beating the chiefs 10-0 when he went out with an injury .    Richie Incognito - another Fa o lineman been a big addition to their offense line.   C Rodney Hudson was also a Fa addition a couple years earlier .

You have to do both build through the draft Lt K Miller( 1st round pick)  , Rg Gabe Jackson ( third) , Swing Tackle D Sharpe ( 4th) Brandon Parker ( Third round- eventually will be guard).    Center Andre James - undrafted Fa who was a Lt, and Rt in college.  Will be Hudson eventually replacement at center), and in Fa ( Rt Trent Brown, C R Hudson,  and Richie Incognito.     G Denzel Good they picked up on waivers - been a God send coming from the Colts who offense line coach  cut him last year because he went to a funeral.

No matter what position is discussed, this guy breaks out some no name Raider anyone else has never heard of, but they are the absolute best.

When is the last time anyone mentioned the Raiders oline as a stand out unit? 🤔

Jets have to mix vets with rookies so they may not go after the super duper high cost players like Scherff & settle for experience in a few places. Be very interesting who ends up with Trent Williams? He could be a Whitworth type & has had time to let his older body heal. Edoga seems to be much more comfortable at RT, he's cheap & hopefully gets better with experience.

If you could pull off obtaining Williams, you wouldn't have to use all of your high draft picks on Oline this year, but you might be able to grab a guy like Biadesz with your high #2 or move up a bit & target him. Under this scenario you could fix another weak point of the team at Pass Rusher, WR, or CB. Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb would be a huge help to Sam & the offense. Maybe they could sign an Amari Cooper too. Could you imagine going from Robbie Anderson & the always injured Quincy Enunwa to a Cooper's & Jeudy or Lamb combo for Sam & the return of a healthy Herndon? Now if that happened & Gase couldn't run an offense I'd say he's got to go.

JD will have a lot of options, it's going to be an interesting offseason.

Halapoulivaati Vaitai is a guy to keep an eye on. Eagles player (Joe Douglas connection) who started when Jason Peters went down with an injury during their Super Bowl run. Only 26 years old. With the Eagles drafting Andre Dillard last year and having Lane Johnson on the other side, the Eagles are probably going to let Vaitai walk.

The Eagles build using FA and the draft so I think we’ll be similar. The first move has to be re-signing several of our players. Bring Beachum and Alex Lewis back but don’t have those re-signings prevent us from bringing in more talent. After those guys, I think it’s important that we sign a guy like Quinton Spain who can start, be effective but won’t break the bank. Of our top 4 picks at least 2 have to be used on OL.

The big problem with this team is that it is so flawed structurally. We need at least 1 starting CB, 1 edge player or 2 if we don’t re-sign Jenkins, 1 starting WR and 3-4 starting OL. That’s a lot for 1 offseason and a lot to expect to fix using just the draft.

Well our problem is we would use that "mix" after you've drafted guys, and few GMs will head into the draft with an OL hole they must fill (forcing their hands in rounds 1-2).

It can lead to a cycle where we sign a capable-enough veteran in March (with guaranteed money), and then one of two things happen.

1. The Maccagnan Cycle: the GM now he sees no hole on the OL (or at that OL position) and ignores it for another offseason or two (or more); or

2. The Draftee Stays on the Bench Cycle: we draft someone who can't immediately beat out the experienced veteran we recently signed, and he stays on the bench until/unless someone gets injured. We almost need that veteran/stopgap player to perform badly or get injured just so we can get the younger guy onto the field. But at worst it does start that pipeline model that is very successful for picks after the first round or two, who aren't necessarily ready to pencil in week 1 of their rookie seasons.

When our only returning "starters" are Winters-Harrison-Edoga I'd say there aren't a lot of options. Other than we have the options of signing any FAs and drafting any prospects, and they'll all be of use to us since it's hard to downgrade lol.
