The Road to the Playoffs

First things first. The point of this thread is to document and discuss our outside shot at the playoffs. Their is a very low probability of this actually happening at this point. No ish. If you're here to tell us there's no chance or it's not happening you can eat my entire ass.

1) At this point it seems there is only 1 wildcard spot up for grabs unless the Bills have an epic collapse.
    1a) I actually don't put it pas them as they're playing @Dal, vs. Bal, @Pitt, @NE the next 4 weeks.

2) The Jets must win out which means winning @Baltimore and @Buffalo.

These are the opponents ahead of us for the second wildcard spot right now.

Raiders 6-5
    @KC, vs. Ten, vs Jax, @LAC, @Den
    We need them to lose 2, we have the tie breaker.

Steelers 6-5
    vs. Cle, @Ari, vs Buff, @NYJ, @Bal
    We need them to lose two, one of which is us.

Browns 5-6
    @Pitt, vs. Cin, @Ari, vs Bal, @Cin
    We need them to lose two since they have tie-breaker

Colts 6-5
    vs. Tenn, @TB, @NO, vs. Car, @Jax
    We need them to have 2 losses including an AFC opponent or 3 losses to NFC

Titans 6-5
    @Indy, @Raiders, vs Hou, vs NO, @Hou
    We need them to lose 3

Feel free to add possibilities or correct. Here's the playoff machine - fun to play with.

Next week:

Raiders @KC - Root for KC

Cle @Pitt - Root for Pitt, they still play us & Bal

Tenn @Indy - Root for Tenn, they still play @Oak, Hou x2 & NO

Buff @Dal - Root for Dal

If all this happens + Jets win we have the following going into week 14.

Jets 5-7

Oak 6-6

Cle 5-7

Tenn 7-5

Buff 8-4

BTW, Tenn Conf record in 4-4 so 2 AFC losses makes that 6-6 and they have Texans twice so that could easily occur. Then it would come to other tiebreakers which are hard to calculate here. So, 3 losses by them may not be necessary.

Also complicating this further that helps and can hurt us in that if 3 or more of these teams tie at 9-7 and have all played and each have beaten others in that ring of 9-7 teams, sometimes that voids the head to head record and drops down to the next tiebreaker of conf record. Pit and Clev have best conf records at 5-3 which may be an issue since best we can be is 6-6. But, I digress, Gase said back in Training camp that there was no reason we would not be in the playoff conversation and in Dec. be playing meaningful games and if the next 2 weeks we take care of business then he would be right about that despite the 1st half of the season woes that are well documented.

One game at a time.

beat Cincy.

I laugh and cringe every time I see a fan post something like this as if we need to stay focused as fans or bad things will happen. That's how the players need to look at it. It doesn't matter if fans take it one game at a time ffs

ONE GAME AT A TIME GUYS, STAY FOCUSED ON THE BENGALS. ALL HANDS ON DECK.

this is wrong, read the thread.

Name the teams in the AFC that we hold the tiebreakers because I have done the Playoff Predictor for 3 weeks and I've predicted games every week.  The Jets only made the playoffs once and that was because the Browns, Steelers Colts and Titans were 8-8.  Oh and the Bills have to be 8-8 as well.

I would LOVE that, Charlotte is FULL of Western NY transplants.  The GM of the Bills, Brendon Beane, worked for me 24 years ago here in Charlotte as an intern from UNC Wilmington. Smart kid.

 He was recognized at halftime of a UNCW game I was working, and I got a chance to meet him. I congratulated him on all of his success up in Buffalo. Nice guy. He even offered me condolences for being a Jets fan, which I appreciated.

Pretty cool that he went to a school that doesn’t even have a football program, but is now an NFL GM.

Go (UNCW) Seahawks!

You could have just read the thread like I said but here are 4 examples of the Jets going 9-7 with another team. Someone mentioned there's also a way for it to happen with the Titans but I don't know how.

Jets + Bills @ 9-7

Basically need every one of those teams to have a worse record than the Jets.  We don't hold the tiebreaker with any of them except the Raiders.

Thats true now, but NOT if we win out. If we win out according to the Playoff Machine we win the tiebreakers against most of them actually.

Baltimore's strength is running the ball. We are the best in the league at stopping the run and have bottled up some big time backs.

Our offense line is made of cottage cheese and string and Baltimore's defense isn't too shabby
