Name one Jets offensive lineman that you definitely want back next year as a starter. You can't.

The Steelers have been without Big Ben for weeks and they’re in the playoff hunt with an UDFA at the most important position and winning games. Don’t act like it can’t be done. Gase mailed in it for weeks and no one here cared to call him out on it.

Injuries happen to every team. Coaching matters. The Jets have a bottom tier roster and a bottom tier head coach. Celebrating having 4 wins with one of the easiest schedules in the league is depressing.

So because one UDFA succeeds it means all must? How were that doing lately with 3rd pick Mason Rudolph?

Tomlin has done his best coaching job, that has nothing to do with the Jets.

@Pac

Beachum..  and can we stop already with the o line whimpering?  It looked fine last couple weeks and serviceable much of last year.

Yes its important and yes improvements coming but Dallas and Eagles have 2 of the best o lines in the league and they are decidedly mediocre overall.

No. I’m saying Gase mailed it in when Sam was out and didn’t even try.

The really sad part is a large and growing number Jets fans have been saying the OL needs attention since Mangold was cut in 2017 - some since Brick retired, Clady days and before...

Shocking it had to get this bad for the "professionals" to take notice and hopefully do something about it

No professional, just MAC

That's a different argument but with no OL and a guy who wasn't ready to play in the NFL he was in an impossible spot.

Even if you're correct (you're decidedly not), we should be shooting for much better than "serviceable", no?  No "playoff roster" has merely a "serviceable" O-Line.

And if your best examples for the counter-argument are the currently mediocre Cowboys and Eagles, you're doing this wrong.  Neither of those teams belong in the playoffs, but one will make it because the NFC East is currently the worst division in the NFL.

You're in luck!  Edoga, Harrison and Winters are the only ones under contract.  Winters is a likely cap casualty.

There is truth to some of this, but man do you overstate it.  OL never playing together?  That couldn't have been foreseen?  That Osemele was hurt and didn't fit the system?  This should not have come as a shock.  That Kalil was done?  He was retired, right?  Has Winters or Lewis ever gone through a season healthy?

Best WR out for the year? He has been in the league since 2014.  This is the 3rd time that he hasn't played more than a single game.  He missed all of 2017, then 5 games in 2018 including the last 3.  His 2nd best year he had under 40/500 and he never had over 56% catch rate.

We knew that our Big Weapon at TE was suspended to start the season for an awful long time.  He was arrested on June 2, 2018.  He also missed his senior year hurt.  It is not a surprise when injury prone players are injured.  Are we going to whine if Bless Austin doesn't play 16?  Who could have expected such a thing?

Losing all our corners?  What corners?  Trumaine Johnson was benched.  For sucking.  Long before he got hurt.  Who else missed time?  I guess Roberts missed a bit and Maulet went down yesterday, but why would they be counting on him in the first place?

One thing I know is that you can go on and on.  So can I, but c'mon.

I heard a great quote from Gil Brandt recently.  It’s the way the Cowboys kept their drafting philosophy on a fall back plan to check off whether they might be getting things correct...it’s pretty simple in its brilliance, I think it was close to this....

”Dumb players stay dumb, bad players stay bad, and injured players stay injured”....

Makes sense, right?  When you’re now tasked to play at the HIGHEST level in the world, things don’t get easier.  In fact they get much more difficult.

Idzik could have learned a lot from this short quote before drafting Dee Milliner, he of the 5 surgeries in college, then taken within the Top 10.

I won’t mention Maccagnan because he was never a GM anyway.  An “about to be fired Scout” upped to GM by Woodrow Johnson hahaha.

Agreed, but we may do it in the reverse order. C first.

No problem with that.  I really like Tyler Biadasz and Creed Humphrey.  At least one should be on the Board even if the Jets end up picking later than 15 some how.  I'd even consider trading back.

When gase was the fins head coach his OL always sucked...damn near got their QB killed every week.

He sucks at picking offensive coaches in general...you need a good OL coach.

No OL but a playoff roster? That doesn’t compute, hoss.

The OL we thought we had never really materialized.  On paper we had a much improved OL, they barely played together.

Again, you say 4-6 wins healthy but we had 4 after 11 games with a decimated roster.

What OL did you think we had? Question marks all along it? Even 100% healthy the line was below average.

Here's a question for anyone bashing the line

and please answer honestly

can you name 1 starter from Cincinnati line before yesterday's game

and follow up would you, after seeing yesterday's game, trade any of their starters for the Jets?

Like, does anyone have a real yang for Bobby Hart? Cordy? cause these guys will probably on the free market next season. they have a garbage line

Trey Hopkins at center? Really? if these guys are better than Harrison and Shell it's only by a hair

***

just rewatched the condensed here and what I'm trying to say is 1) Dalton played better than Darnold and 2) Adam Gase is a fraud

these are far worse issues than the offensive line

which granted, needs 5 new starters blah blah blah

guess what Cincinnati needs 5 new starters too

no excuse for garbage play calls, no hot routes etc

Easy, its Brandon Shell. He's a good enough RT with a good RG next to him. When Winters was healthy (and he's awful) Shell was above average.

100% healthy it looked good on paper.  It takes time for an OL to be able to communicate and perform their best.  They Never played together in preseason so it was going to take a little while for them to come together.  They weren't going to be great but on paper we had an above average OL.  Unfortunately that barely played together and the OL has been worse than we've seen probably since the 2007 season.

Well we just have to agree to disagree because they were average to below average at multiple spots in an ideal scenario. Not one player was above average coming into this season. It’s crazy to think otherwise.

Ok but please explain how you said even completely healthy we'd only win 4-6 games when injury ravaged (and illness and suspensions) we already have 4 ?

Fire Gase

Make Williams HC and see if Bill Callahan is available to be OC and bring his own guy to be OL coach

7.5 wins per Vegas.  Sounds about right to me.

Highly respected, long-time OL Coach for multiple organizations can't turn sh*t into lemonade.

We know Mac was responsible but still thought someone else would have figured it out, CJ, coaches, lunch lady, security guard, scouts, secretary (sorry executive assistant), the IT guy had to see something on the web it's not like he is working on the NY Jets site (so old it should be in a museum)

Because even completely healthy, the offensive line is bad, the coaching is bad, there’s no pass rush, the secondary is garbage, and the weapons on offense are probably bottom third in the league. The QB has also underperformed. I’m not going to get in a “what if” game with you. This team is bad personnel wise and coaching wise. Period.

They’ll be lucky to get to 5.

As soon as we lost in Week 1, prior to finding out about Sam's mono, I had us at 6 wins.

Simply basing it on the OL's performance so far - who else could take responsibility? Odds are the OLC would be fired first than Gase. The Penalties, the poor pass & run  blocking, miscommunication  - It stands to reason that not all of it is on the players - the coach has take take some responsibility.

Bart Scott seems to think Edoga can play guard well.  We'd still need 4 new o-linemen.  And even then we won't run the ball well because Adam Gase doesn't understand the running game.

To me the biggest issue in the Bengals game was the idiotic penalties by the OL at crucial moments. You had 2 penalties that negated big plays and killed drives when we had a good opportunity to get points and 1 that resulted in a safety and short field for the Bengals where they ended up with FG. Those are momentum swinging plays that could have changed the outcome of the game.
