Stuck with him long enough to ruin or be unsure of Darnold going into his critical contract extension. Then still being unsure and being forced to either draft another QB or extend Darnold and hope he turns into what he looked like at t end of last season with Bates calling plays.

The worst part of it is we will miss out on that bald beast in SF who is going to be the next great coach in this league.  Hes the next john harbaugh.

People are still excited for a guy who’s tenure at Michigan is a complete failure?

How did he do with an actual nfl team before that?

Enough time to completely ruin Darnold.

Unbelievable all the Johnsons had to do was hire someone not horrible to be the head coach

However long it is, is too long.

Almost found a way to lose to the dolphins twice

Only way he might get fired now is we get blown out last 3 games

Just our luck the refs finally give us a call and it results in Gase getting two more years here to suck

17 years and 2 Super Bowls. He stays 2 years after Darnold’s retirement but when the team goes 7-9 and no new QB on the horizon he steps down to work in the front office with Joe Douglas.

Let's see, he decided not to run the ball against one of the worst run defenses in league last week, then decided to spend an entire half running the ball against a team with Two undrafted rookie corners. Is say he's got one more season with his nose glued to the play sheet.

Gase’s teams have never had luck with injuries. Why would that change?

But then they wouldn’t be the Jets.

Like drafting a TE with 40 catches in his entire career at Penn St high in the 1st Rd over Warren Sapp and then spending numerous high 1st Rd picks in the future, trying to correct that mistake, on DTs that you could have gotten in the 4th Rd or even lower.

At this point it isn’t even “bad luck”.

The sample size is large enough to say there are serious deficiencies in the coaches Gase has for strength and conditioning.

Every team Gase has coached has either led the league in injuries or been close.  They flashed a stat today that the Jets lead the league this year.

Does it matter? Even when we hire the greatest coach of all time (Beli) we screw it up. Oh and we fired Pete Carroll for Rich Kotite.

Todd Bowles’ contract saved Gase’s job before this season began.

Aren't they still paying Bowles? If so, no way they fire this guy soon and pay 3 coaches

Two brothers run an NFL team like a business. They realized a long time ago you can make more money with a cheap loser than an expensive winner. If they fire their head coach, they will be paying THREE HCs next year.

Gase is untouchable until probably middle of 2020 season where they can just make Greg Williams “interim” without paying a new guy. More realistically after 2020 at earliest. Johnsons don’t have a history of mid-season firings, despite plenty of deserving candidates.

The Johnsons don’t care about spending money they are billionaire oligarchs who inherited a pharmaceutical empire - several times the jets have had the highest or among the league’s highest payroll

They are the same Jim Dolan they will spend money they just have no idea how to

Disagree. 90% of their wealth is tied up in the team. That is their business. Said pharmaceutical empire was divided up a long time ago. They have received a mere trickle of it.

But there’s injuries and he’s a genius. It’s the best coaching job since Parcells. I can’t remember the name of the poster who keeps saying this.
