The JF80 2020 Offseason Plan

Recommended Posts

I like it. Would draft WR or CB high with one of the 3rd rounders but we aren’t even close to the draft yet and so I can’t really be too picky with where I’d select a player.

1st, 3rd and a 2021 4th is good compensation for Adams. Would deal him and replace him with either a decent S in FA or switch Marcus Maye back to his college position (SS) and sign a better FS.

probably offer Ficken a low deal and see if he bites. I wouldn’t wanna turn this into a kicking issue like this past offseason but I still refuse to budge on the notion that kickers should be prioritized in any manner even with the understanding of needing XP’s and such.

Would hope that Jason Peters is still good enough to offer decent help on the left end of the line but would be a decent risk without depth to cover a potential mistake.

Don’t love the Edge players mentioned but understand the point behind it and am all for adding depth to the pass rush. That’s a must this offseason. A top priority just like OL.

Ronald Darby would be a nice get. Darby, Poole, Austin is good. Definitely would want an extra promising player or two for the secondary though. Good lord is that depth chart decimated. Re-sign Hairston for #4, #5 depth. You seriously can’t ever have enough corners.

getting Andrew Thomas would make me explode every where.

I know we only have a certain amount of picks/money and our roster has more holes than a teenagers room wall but WR has to be prioritized to some extent. I want Justin Jefferson 8x a day on Sunday.

Just read it, good stuff. I would be shocked if Trumaine Johnson is on the roster heading into camp next year though.

Mike Glennon.... uh no sir. Guy looked absolutely lost and Luke Falkesque.

try to develop Mike White and if you need to sign a back up then sign someone who shows some type of ability the last time they were on the field.

and i didn't read the entire thing, but i didn't see Fire Gase and Loggains so this can't be serious.

Cutting Tru just wouldn't be smart from a financial perspective, unfortunately.  We'd suffer a $12M dead cap hit by cutting him in the offseason.

good list.  not so sure about rontez although he does play special teams pretty well. i think i also consider launching trumaine.  i know it would be a cap hit but the guy is a slug.  if he doesn't show anything next training camp he should be gone.  an adams trade would be interesting. really good player and could be the on field leader the jets need but they have so many holes to fill a good trade is possible.

I don't think we can suffer a $12M dead cap hit and make all the moves I'm suggesting above.

Between the low likelihood of elite EDGE guys hitting the open market AND the low likelihood of top-end EDGE rushers coming to a losing program, I felt the likes of Dupree and Golden would be the kind of young EDGE guy who would be in our ballpark.  I could be wrong though.

I agree in principle with most t hings in this rebuild.  As for resigning some of our own players.  I am not a fan of D. Thomas and think we can upgrade.  I would not at all commit to Ficken.  Do not want David Fales.  Would keep Burgess as a back up and ST guy.

Jason from over the cap had me convinced he will be cut with the guaranteed for injury clause. Seems like Tru is done here.

If we cut him after the season it will be a 12million dollar dead cap hit. If we keep him around, he will be a 15 million dollar cap hit.
So the question is whether he is worth 3 million a year? The answer is a very sobering....probably not.

The 2020 WR UFA list is fairly unimpressive at this point.  A.J. Green, Larry Fitz, Manny Sanders and Randall Cobb are the "headliners".  And I don't see Amari Cooper hitting the open market.

And I don't see too many veteran WR's wanting to come here without a massive overpay.

My only quibble would be Peters. He’s such an injury risk that I’d rather just bring back Beachum. I’ve had a Dupree mancrush since before that draft, and I think he’s steadily improving, to the point that we’d actually be paying for future performance for once.

Far too early for specific player names today.  Half of today's draft no-brainers will be late rounders, and half the potential free agents will never actually hit the market.

My preferences:

-Sign the two best FA O-linemen that do hit free agency, no matter what $$ it takes.

-Trade Adams for a #1 and whatever else we can get, pick wise.

-Draft the best two O-linemen we can afford with our #1 and #1 picks.

-Trade Bell or cut Bell.  Gase doesn't want him and he's not well suited to Gase's system.

-Draft a bull RB and potential #1 type WR.  We should have multiple 2nds and 3rds, use them.

-Draft a QB prospect in the mid-rounds (4th/5th).  Cut Simian, do not sign any more placeholder Fitz's, or McCown's or the like.

-Retain Gregg Williams.

-Cut Trumaine Johnson

-Use whats left (FA cap space, late draft picks, existing young players) to fill the needs at Edge, CB, Safety.  Yes, the D takes it on the chin this year, they'll have to suck it up.

Yeah, I actually wanted us to trade back into the 1st to get him in 2015, then wondered if I had been wrong when his career started kind of slow. He’s exploded this season though. I’m mildly concerned about the idea of this being a function of a contract year, but I think there’s enough talent to go for it.

His waldo was off the charts wasn't it, so the ability is there but I agree we might have a motivation issue that won't be rectified with a big pay day

It's a risk, but you could say the same about Jordan Jenkins, and he doesn't have half Dupree's talent.

Here is the current construct of the Eagles Offensive line and draft position:

Tackles:

OT  Jason Peters 71
89
#5 OT 1 6'4" 340 37 1/22/82 16 2004     Arkansas
OT  Lane Johnson 65
88
#7 OT 1 6'6" 303 29 5/8/90 7 2013 1 4 Oklahoma
OT  Andre Dillard 77
73
#69 OT 2 6'5" 315 24 10/3/95 0 2019 1 22 Washington State
OT  Halapoulivaati Vaitai 72
64
#134 OT 2 6'6" 320 26 6/16/93 4 2016 5 164 TCU
OT  Riley Mayfield 75

    6'7" 302 24 4/1/95 0 2019

Centers:

C  Jason Kelce 62
93
#2 C 1 6'3" 280 32 11/5/87 9 2011 6 191 Cincinnati
C  Nate Herbig 67

  2 6'3" 338 25 10/7/94 0 2019     Stanford
C  Keegan Render 64
74
#31 C   6'4" 306 24 11/23/95 0 2019     Iowa

Guards:

G  Brandon Brooks 79
92
#3 G 1 6'5" 343 30 8/19/89 8 2012 3 76 Miami - OH
G  Isaac Seumalo 73
73
#70 G 1 6'4" 303 26 10/29/93 4 2016 3 79 Oregon State
G  Matt Pryor 69
69
#113 G 2 6'7" 358 24 12/16/94 2 2018 6 206
G  Iosua Opeta 78

  3 6'4" 301 23 8/15/96 0 2019     Weber State

Based on this very unscientific approach of analyzation,  no great surprise, much like many teams, his reliance is getting great Tackles and getting them early. Centers, they have been blessed with having a great one they got in the 6th round.. Guards, they have not spent great capital on.

I really believe that some people thinking this is going to be an off-season spent on 75 % of capital spent on the o-line will be surprised.
