Thoughts about last Raiders game in Oakland?

Can't see how this game wasn't Chiefs/Raiders. Especially when the league is shoving the 100th anniversary stuff down everyone's throats every week. There wasn't a more bitter, hated rivalry than Chiefs/Raiders. This was a no brainer.

It would make sense, but you have to remember "the league" hated the AFL.  Al Davis was winning the war.  Years have certainly dulled the feud, but the NFL has never been fond of the Raiders.

Even better we should now allow players to get paid directly by gambling sites for point shaving and nfl and nba refs too

What do you think instant reply is for? Well, actually, not for point shaving. It's to make sure the refs don't point shave. Well, actually, it's not for that.

It's so that when certain people lose really really large bets and they think it's the ref's fault, the reply exonerates the ref, so the ref is less likely to be shot in the face.

It's not a coincidence the NBA went in bigger on "instant reply" after they formalized their legal gambling relationship.

Ok, that's a slightly cynical take. But replay is more about gambling than the game itself, in any sport.

The NBA move solidified the thought for me this year.

Oakland Raiders fans get nuts after losing final game at California arena

December 15, 2019 | 9:15pm

Oakland Raiders fans flipped out following the team’s loss at home Sunday in the final game at their long-time California arena, refusing to leave the stands and tossing garbage onto the field.

At least one fan was also apprehended after the team fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars, losing a 20-16 heartbreaker in the final minute of the game.

After the matchup concluded, some fans in a part of the stadium known as the Black Hole refused to leave the arena, where their team has played their last 327 home games.

Footage from the stadium shows a large number of raucous fans congregating behind one of the end zones.

“Black hole tosses garbage onto the field as Raiders lose their last game in Oakland in the final minute,” tweeted Yahoo Sports reporter Torrey Hart.

In a later tweet, Hart said the scene was “descending into chaos,” along with a video of security guards struggling with somebody near the stands.

Another photo posted to Twitter from the post-game mayhem shows a fan decked out in Raiders attire being hauled away by the police with his hands behind his back.

Beginning next season, the team’s new home will be in Las Vegas.

From an AFL historical perspective it’s sad.

From a Jets perspective I can’t wait to attend a road game in Vegas.

That's hilarious. It use to be, sh*t, we play the Raiders away all the time. Now it will be, why do we always play the Raiders at home & not Vegas?

Mixed emotions on this one.  The Al Davis Raiders were great NFL villains so it will hurt the league that they're no longer in Oakland (or LA).  OTOH, it will be awesome to have a team in Vegas, and the Raiders' historical image certainly fits in with the Vegas image of "Sin City".

Unfortunately, I think there's a bigger narrative here.  I feel like today's NFL doesn't really have those ties to to "yester-year" anymore.  Today's NFL feels like a different league than what it used to be.  It's a much more watered down product.  Very "Arena football"-like.  While I was happy to see the Raiders lose yesterday, I also felt somewhat indifferent about it.  That's not a good sign for the league.
