Just my take after watching games these year. Gase seems to script this idea that the game should flow from short to long. So, he calls short passes and runs in the beginning of the game. And regardless of what happens, he'll start calling deeper passes as the game goes on. He should just stick with what works.

Sam makes terrible decisions 50% of the time, he's got to clean that up! Guys were open, Smith was wide open. We have to fix this Oline, Sam rushes way too much, it's in his head even when he gets time.
