A Jet from Oz

Ficken

Or we could have just kept Jason Myers since he was already a Jet. That move to eventually find Ficken later in the season probably cost this team a win against Buffalo week 1. Ficken is hitting 70% of his kicks, Meyers 80% this season.

Macc sucks at everything football.

Myers isn’t having a great season either.  Not signing him wasn’t the mistake.  Not bringing another kicker in to compete with a mediocre Costanzo was the mistake

Not bringing back a guy who just made the probowl for you knowing that you're most likely going to have problems scoring points to begin with is the problem. And Myers is having a better season than any Kicker that was on the Jets this year and has connected on a whopping 10% more of his FG's than Ficken.

Folks can continue to excuse that away, but the Jets would have most likely beaten the Bills week 1 if our FG situation, which didnt have to even be a situation, would have simply remained the same.

Myers had a career year last year and was able to parlay that into a rich multi year contract.   By that logic you’d have also kept Costanzo after his career year with us, but he went to Tampa and sh*t the bed.  I’m not arguing that we most likely win game 1 with Myers but at what cost?

You probably would also have been in favor of keeping last years kick returner Reed at an inflated salary when his replacement  Berrios is leading the league in punt returns.

Ficken's ok but he's too inconsistent and misses too many PAT's. I would to upgrade next year.

Totally agree.  He has solidified the position but we need him to improve or find a better kicker.  He is below average, but possibly improving

A mistake that cost us the season

The season?  Are you saying we make the playoffs if we win the first game?  Cause from where Im sitting that would make us 7-8 going into the last game in Buffalo and I dont think even 8-8 is making the playoffs

We would be one game out of the 6th seed going into next week with Buffalo resting it’s starters

yes Gase signing Vedvik cost us the season

You could make a better argument that losing Darnold to mono for several games or Mosely for the entire season impacted our won loss record and playoff chances but carry on about the one game the kicking game lost

if i remember correctly Myers helped lose us a game in his Pro Bowl season last year going 1/3 against Houston

We lost Darnold for 3 games

Meanwhile other teams won games with backups and third stringers

and with a healthy Darnold Gase found ways to lose to the crappy Bengals and Dolphins

He came back from Mono in 3 weeks.  That didnt make him completely healthy and back to his normal self.

We have had our already weak offensive line decimated by injuries-this past weekend we started a guy who had never played the guard position before. And this weekend we are likely starting another third stringer at guard.  The starting 3 inside linebackers are on the DL.   Our CBs are street free agents.  Seems to me we are doing a lot with very little.

yes Pittsburgh won some games with back up QBs but they have a better overall team surrounding their back ups,  They didnt win with their back ups on Sunday!  Does that mean Tomlin sucks because Gase beat him?

Vic Fangio who sucks won games with both his second and third string quarterbacks

the Gase excuse making is in overdrive we are going 7-9 because of an easy schedule

Is it excuse making to acknowledge that our team, which was thin in talent to start with, was further handicapped by major injuries?

Arent the other teams we a re playing and beating NFL teams?  So why the asterisk?     Dont the Raiders, Pittsburgh and Dallas still all have a chance to go to the playoffs?  How do you discount those wins?

Bill Parcells took over a team that went 1-15 and went 9-7.  Gase was de facto GM for much of the offseason so please let’s take it easy blaming Idzik’s 2014 draft for the fact that Gase wanted to throw all day facing the league’s worst run defense in Cincy

This argument has been completely debunked.  The discrepancy in runs to passes was due to the 2 min drill at the end of the first half, their difficulty running the ball when they tried, and them getting behind and then trying to catch up.  Now if you want to take issue with where the runs were designed to go, thats another story.

And fwiw, Gase took over a team that had won 4 games the prior year, had massive injuries and still will win 6 to 7 games.

Im not a huge Gase fan but just trying to keep it real.
