Giving QW some love, his sack prevented a sure 13-13 tie

He was being compared to this guy, and was picked 3rd overall because of it.

Actually, you can't say why he was drafted 3rd overall. You can say why YOU would draft him. He was drafted to be an interior lineman in a 3-4. So, I think bend-the-corner and sacks were not the primary reason he was drafted.

I think he was drafted 3rd overall to do what he's doing: contributing in a rotation of interior 3-4 lineman, mostly focused on stopping the run. That's what he can do. He's not John Abraham. He's more Sean Ellis. And he's contributing. Sorry that's not good enough for the Same Ol' Jets fans.

They whine and cry and consciously try and tear down the good Jets players not named Sam Darnold. Jamal Adams "overrated" even before he was actually rated. Now it's the next Jets DT: never enough, always being compared to other failed Jets DTs. These 'people' hold grudges for their own inability to love anything but their Johnsons.

The defense is second against the run and they stupidly claim that he's not contributing. It's so absurd it makes the Jamal hatred laughable...

The only real point I want to make here is that he has beaten guys on numerous occasions.

My point is everyone does that. Why are there no threads pumping up Phillips, Foley, Mcclendon, or Shepard who have all been better than this can't miss prospect? He's been horrible for the third overall pick....just not on the level of Gholston bad.

If someone didn't follow the draft and it was mentioned that Phillips was the third overall selection instead of Q most casual fans wouldn't even notice. Some here might even call it a great pick.

I’m sorry, but if you think a lineman was drafted at 3 to stop the run, that’s just objectively false.  The player you’re describing is routinely found on day 3 of the draft.  That’s not what anyone pegged QW as, and if so, that’s just a complete waste of a pick, even if he’s great.

Didn’t want Quennin but not going to give up on him. Only 21 and looks quick at times. Curious to see him after an offseason weights program

Cool.

Yet he should be making that type of impact several times every Sunday.

Not worthy of his draft status by any means.

Does several mean two or three? Because I just wanted to know if he should have 32 or 48 sacks each season.

How many times has Darnold been sacked by free runners this season. Simian had his ankle broken because the whatever his name was on Cleveland came unblocked. Should we not count those sacks?

It's nice to get a sack that way for once

He was actually shedding some blocks today and being disruptive.  He gets there occasionally just doesn’t make the play very often.  At least he made a few today.

He needs to dedicate himself this offseason to eating better and getting stronger. As technically refined as QW is, his physique still has room for growth. If he takes his career seriously, I think he can get a lot better (and is already pretty decent).

He was completely untouched, so he better have made that sack. But credit where credit is due. It was a huge play at a critical moment.

He was, but the closing speed was pretty rare for a 300 pounder DT

I think some of the negativity about QW is based on his draft position because any sane person would have selected an edge rusher in that slot because a DT is rarely a game-wrecker or instant contributor like an edge rusher can be. But it is not QW's fault that the Jets selected him in his draft spot. He's 22 and DT is not a position where rookies typically thrive.  Edge rushers depend on the physical skill of beating the guy (or guys when double teamed) in front of them. It is a young man's position because once you lose your speed and quickness your effectiveness wanes.  DT, on the other hand, is far more dependent on reading your keys and diagnosing plays. This is why there are so many long in the tooth DTs and NT's around the league.

You say that I cant say why he was drafted 3rd overall, yet you go on to state why he was drafted 3rd overall. It's clear that the opinion was mine, but dont make it seem like my opinion has no validity by using semantics. He wasnt just "drafted" simply to be an interior lineman when we already had Leo, Anderson, Shepard and McClendon. Furthermore, we have guys like Anderson playing out of position in this 3-4 because we have so many guys who are naturally at the same position yet didnt draft an actual OLB for that 3-4.

And this is exactly why Macc is out of a Job. He overvalued Interior linemen rotation by drafting another 3rd overall when he already had 4 on the roster to rotate, while at the same time ignoring every other hole on the team in order to draft what you are basically saying is a role player with the 3rd pick in the draft.

You're just talking into the wind here so I'll disregard it. However I will say that Quinnen Williams hasnt proven to be "good" to even be torn down. A guy who's "good" and is constantly torn down is Robby Anderson. QW needs to actually show that he can be good before this statement can be taken seriously.

The defense is 2nd against the run, doesnt mean that QW is 2nd in the league in stopping the run. What is his ranking when stopping the run? That would be more telling than anything.

So far he has two full sacks and both times he was completely unblocked. Wake me up when he beats someone.

Isn't it funny how Leonard Williams is never unblocked for some reason?  This guy has no sacks.  And how do you forget to block a 300 pound defensive tackle?  We just forgot to block him?

The fact is that Williams is a 300 pound guy who is quick like a linebacker.  He screamed through the line and sacked the QB, and I believe he deserves some credit for it.  Not all the credit, but more than you are giving him.

Q certainly came up big today. Happy for him and excited that he is part of our young corps of players. Expect big jump in 2nd year under GW’s tutelage.

I believe that with an off-season in the weight room and a years experience behind him Q will be a force next year.  He has great quickness for a 300 pounder. He just turned 22 and is starting to show glimpses of what he is capable of.  If we can upgrade our outside pass rushing and add another CB this defense with another year in GW’s system could be special.

Yeah look I’m not gonna sugarcoat it...he hasn’t had an impactful rookie year at all.  Some of it I think is injuries and some is just him.  Personally I do think he is gonna have a big second year but I understand why many fans are worried

Q hasn't played like the #3 pick in the draft.  He has been underwhelming as a rookie.  This is disappointing, and the extra vitriol Q has received is for the incompetent clown who made the pick as much as it is for his performance.

This is great stuff.

Paradis: "You need to understand QW is not the beast the highlight clips portray him... he played on a stacked team, that was up 30 at half time, on a cupcake schedule.. he struggled in big games"

JN: "Shut up Paradis, he's Aaron Donald"

Now, we have entire threads dedicated to 1 unblocked sack.

I'm gonna go back to jerking off to bushy 70s porn. You let me know when QW shows up for real. I might have made it to the 80s by then.

regardless of draft , we got him now. forget that. he’s got some tools and high ceiling and seems a great kid which can be an influence in the room too with time. unless you’re getting top half R1 in trade you see him for what he is and work with that.
that said if you ‘see him’ as something less, well, opinions will differ.

The hate on Q is as dumb as the talk of wanting to trade Jamaal.   This board is a bunch of insufferable.   I know their has to be some football coaches out there that watch the All-22 tape and see Q isn't playing a pass rush role. He literally is doing his job that is designed.  Now I am not arguing that a DL 3rd overall pick shouldn't be a dominant force in the pass rush.   What I am saying is he is literally playing a scheme where he can clog up blockers, open blitzing lanes and stop the run.  He is doing that.   HE is 22.  He literally just turned 22 this month.  Let's see where the defensive scheme goes next year and where his progress is in year 2 and year 3 before we crucify him.  It literally is a joke to say he's a bust or we should trade him,  Which again let me point out the what another person sated on a different thread about Q.  I don't remember which thread and the there exact post but the person stated JD was an idiot for not trading Q since Schefter reported that JD received a bunch of calls to see if Q was available.  With mulitple picks offered.

So lets break that down.  People here believe Q is a bust.   Many GMs were calling to trade for Q .  Clearly he is highly talneted and performaing at a level where GM's were offering multiple picks for him.  But the geniuses here say it was a terrible pick and we should trade him.  No wonder we suck year in and year out.   The owner listens to the fans way too much

It's really not, especially when he was drafted 3rd overall. I'm still waiting for his first sack when he actually beats a lineman and we only have one game left to play. He's been a huge disappointment considering where he was drafted, even his most ardent supporters would agree.

Says the guy who is not a 300 pound athlete....

You're certainly not alone. I think Sunday was just a taste of what's in store for this kid. He did it against a pretty decent OL as well. Future looks bright for Q.

As expected the narrative for this player changed as the year went on

From unblockable beast to heaping praise on him for his 2nd sack of the year and him being injured half the time.

But just wait till next year!  He might really blow away phillips and fatasukis sack totals!

Why does the future look bright? If i sold you this year 1 of QW last April 0/10000 fans would have said -- yea ok. lets take him. zero. none... now in the crosshairs of a wasted pick, who couldn't beat out a late rounder with a name no one can pronounce - the future looks bright?

Explain.
