I like him but he needs work. Maulet was a nice surprise. But I’d be happy if we spent on Byron Jones and push everyone down the depth chart. Snap, didn't know Austin got benched. Roberts is as good as gone - 6 mill cap hit with no dead money and multiple cheaper CB's who were on the same level Poole had a very good year. would like to keep him, his price is going way up tho. Forget about finding starting caliber guys coming via that route, especially when you're as talent-deficient as the Jets are. It's an extremely poor allocation of resources. This has been proven time and time again, not just by Mac, not just by a series of hapless Jets GMs, but across the sport. I'm not saying we need to throw big money at another Trumaine. I think the Poole signing worked out and he wasn't expensive.
Columbia Jet Fan
I feel there are four major holes on this team (more than four but four glaring ones) OL WR EDGE CB Btwn FA and the draft there is very little chance we will be able to address all four items... if that is the case - CB is the spot I would prefer to pass on - there is some reason for optimism, and I believe an edge rusher would help the problem... I do believe our CBs are probably worse than the second half of the season would indicate - we didn't play too many great passing offensives in that stretch and yet several teams did have success throwing against us
Jimmy 2 Times
Bless can be our 1. The days of paying 14+ million for a corner are over. Find a pass rusher and our corners become more than good enough!

Austin and Maulet are OK but is that really what you want ? Go out and get a legit CB that is better than both of them then I'd feel more confident.

CrazyCarl40
Neither guy should be a starter but both are solid depth. Maybe they can elevate to a #2, but didn’t see guys who should be counted on to shut down good receivers.

So is Canady, I think they will look to re-sign him as well. If I was the Jets I would cut Roberts and use that 6 mil freed up with no cap hit to aid in bringing back Poole or to re-signing Maulet and Canady. Roberts is too slow and simply past his prime. As a #2 starter he looked just as bad if not worse than Tru. I don't know why anyone would expect his play to improve next season. And as you said, they also have Hairston under contract. Agreed. joewilly12
Maurice Canady should be a consideration in the mix.

drsamuel84
I don't think the CB position is as dire as it was going into the season with the emergence of Austin and Canady improving but they def. do need to resign Poole and get another guy in here to compete. With all the other holes I think we can get away with 3-4 good corners and not that shut down guy but of the 4 big position of needs I'd probably put this last on the list. ScarletKnight89
This team needs to go out and sign it least one starting outside corner for next year. I like Maulet, Austin, and even Canady. But I would let those 3 battle it out on one side and sign an accomplished veteran to play across from them. They also need to bring back Poole. I think Austin is for sure a #2 CB at minimum. Maulet seems to be passable too? Austin has the added injury question mark so maybe we need to try and add a true #1 and push Maulet to nickel/dime packages? And Austin was dumped the last two games Austin has nothing guaranteed

Apart from one or two games he played like one of the best CBs in the league this year. As a rookie.

Greenbloodblitz
Definitely not! Both of those guys are number twos. As others have said we definitely have to re-sign Poole as was one of the bright spots this year. Just like we need a number one wide receiver we need a number one cornerback. No more of trotting out number twos at every position. If anything we found nice depth which you always need at cornerback and wide receiver hola Viyncint Smith. But we definitely need a number 1 at both of those positions.

In fact, I think it may be something more than what we saw- like he clearly played the wrong defense, made a dumb mistake or ignored his coach, not just got burned. So him being benched shouldn't be reasoning for why we need to go out and spend big money on a FA CB.
k-met57
i don't know how people trust Austin after missing 2 years with bad knees in college and playing half the year. knees don't typically get magically better....id have a plan B.

If Bless can lock down the right side and Maulet can lock down the left side how can you be so definitive about neither being a #1 and both are 'definitely' #2s? What does that mean? Are you telling me Bless is not talented enough to take on some of the top WRs in the NFL, cuz I think he is as long as he stays healthy. This was his rookie season and he pretty much shut down the top WR from the opposing team in a bunch of games. Look, I agree, we can't rely on him yet. He's a great young talent and it looks like the Macc found a gem late in the draft. However, I don't get the definitely #2 thing. Why can't he elevate his game marginally and earn the #1 spot next year? Nothing is definitive.
Jimmy 2 Times
You can't fix all the problems on this team in one offseason. CB is way down the list of needs right now. As I said, we have a top ten defense with no one playing corner. Why waste high draft picks or FA cash? Imo, it's not smart and something Rex Ryan would push for.
