Xtina
This puts a big wrench into the current coaching carousel. Looks like the Cowboys will be looking for another coach, unless Jerry decides to do it himself. I thought they might be really obnoxious and wait till the giants hired their coach wonder if he’s a consideration for them Garrett Out
pdxgreen
Hmmm. Wonder who Jerrah has in mind? Meyer or I can seem him having a specific young coach in mind like Lincoln Riley.

Smashmouth
Garrett is not a consideration for anyone. he has coached teams loaded with talent and can't even get to the playoffs
Adoni Beast
Its Lincoln Riley. OU’s top prospect QB commit just said he’s leaving OU, and that he would only do that if Lincoln Riley wasn’t going to be the coach. Riley has also said that he would only want to coach in the NFL if it was for Dallas. I think Jerry waited in hopes that Garrett wouldn’t go to the Giants, not that he would be a threat (he sucks as a coach) but Garrett is apparently is very close with the Jones family. I bet Jerry caught wind that Giants are going Rhule and was ready to let Garrett go.
TuscanyTile2
Wouldn't be surprised if Jerry tried to recapture what he got from Jimmy Johnson 30 years ago (crazy it's been that long!) and hired a college coach.

rangerous
what took so long? the cowgirls have been loaded talent wise for quite some time and garrett just wasn't getting the job done. he should have been launched when he couldn't win playoff games with romo.

Jerry and Stephen have gotten much better at drafting and managing the talent, but I think the process of working with Jerry makes any coaches job difficult. prime21
Dallas is a premier spot to coach regardless of Jones. They have the talent already. If you could win a Super Bowl there then you are remembered forever.

Riley would be a fool to give up the autonomy he has @ Oklahoma. He signed a 5 yr/$32.5 million contract last year...plus all the other perks that come with it...so money won't sway him; to coach in DAL means he has to be mindful not to cast a larger shadow than Jerry Jones; last 2 coaches who did that (Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells) got canned...where in Norman, OK he gets to call all of the shots and his star can burn as bright as he can make it. OU is a perennial winner while DAL is a .500 team in the Jerry Jones era. If I were he, I wouldn't answer any calls from the 214/469/972 area codes; there is no upside in going there.
Lith
Mentioned this the other day. Unrelated to the thread, but Vandagriff is from Bogart, GA, neighboring town to Athens. Anyone know of a top 5 program near his home that might need a QB?

There's one point of upside. The NFCE is so bad that he could probably come in and win 3 straight division titles.

Beerfish
Well if you are a great young college coach then if you go to the nfl and fail you will still be in demand in college once you come back. The ultimate goal is to win in the NFL so you take your kick at the can when you can if the situation is right. Not sure why it took JJones a week to fire his coach, must have had exit interviews with players?
