jetsons
https://sportsinstant.com/2020/01/10/sources-mccown-played-with-torn-hamstring/ 12:44 PM ET PHILADELPHIA – Eagles quarterback Josh McCown played the second half of Sunday’s wild card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks on a torn hamstring and is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday, sources said. The 40-year-old McCown replaced Carson Wentz in the first quarter after Wentz exited with a concussion. He scrambled multiple times in the first half, most memorably for an 11-yard gain down the right late in the second quarter to set up a Jake Elliott field goal. With no other quarterbacks available, McCown finished the game. He ended 18-of-24 for 174 yards while absorbing six sacks. Saturday’s NFC wild card game was Josh McCown’s first playoff game in his 16-year career. AP Photo/Julio Cortez It is expected to take up to six months to fully recover, according to a source, which would complicate committing to play another NFL season in 2020. McCown was emotional after the game when reflecting on his career. “This year has been nothing short of special for me. I’ve really enjoyed it and have learned so much from so many people. I’m thankful to be a part of it. As far as the future goes, we’ll see. I haven’t made any decisions yet. I’ll get with my family and talk with them. I retired once, so I know how to do that. We’ll just see. I don’t know yet,” he said. “I’ll probably reflect on that later. Again, it’s probably with a sour taste, but I’m thankful. My wife and family have moved around a lot and have been there for me. To go out there and get to play in a playoff game was special. I can’t thank them enough for their support. It was a heck of a ride. I left it all out there, I know that much. It is different playing at [age] 40. Your body talks to you a lot. I’ll reflect on that later, but it was fun to be out there for sure.” This article was originally published by Espn.com. Popular Post NYJ1
What a TOUGH SOB! I am so proud to know he played for the NYJ. He's also been nothing short of GREAT with Sammy. I really hope Adam Gase hires him to be Sammys mentor going forward. It's too bad he was never good enough to win a SB as a player, but I'd love to see the Jets win a SB and he be a part of that. 4 1

y2k8
I'm not surprised, he's a gamer and a good dude and a great teamate. But, my Lord, how could the Eagles settled for him as backup QB given Wentz injury history. I understand it was a bit freaky how he was concussed, but you had to have a btter option than a guy who was on TV and never stopped coaching his son's HS football team in NC during the season.

That's what happens when you have to pay your franchise QB. There's no sense in investing heavily in a backup QB, since you're screwed regardless if he goes down, and you can't really justify spending significant coin on a backup QB even if you want to. Hence why the Eagles had to go bargain hunting and sign 40-year old Josh McCown to a 1-year deal for $2M. And now they enter an offseason where they have to figure out what to do with all of these free agents: Player Pos. 2019 Team 2020 Team Type Snaps Age Current APY Guarantees Ronald Darby CB Eagles Void 50.4% 26 $6,500,000 $4,500,000 Jason Peters LT Eagles UFA 74.7% 38 $6,000,000 $3,500,000 Rodney McLeod S Eagles UFA 99.8% 30 $4,000,000 $1,500,000 Nate Sudfeld QB Eagles UFA 0% 27 $3,095,000 $0 Nelson Agholor WR Eagles UFA 59.6% 27 $2,344,343 $8,777,566 Vinny Curry 43DE Eagles UFA 38.4% 32 $2,250,000 $2,000,000 Josh McCown QB Eagles UFA 1.3% 41 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 Timmy Jernigan 43DT Eagles UFA 27.1% 28 $2,000,000 $1,000,000 Darren Sproles RB Eagles UFA 8.9% 37 $1,330,000 $900,000 Richard Rodgers TE Eagles UFA 0.4% 28 $805,000 $0 Hassan Ridgeway 43DT Eagles UFA 24.3% 26 $725,056 $560,224 Jordan Howard RB Eagles UFA 23.9% 26 $647,006 $248,024 Halapoulivaati Vaitai RT Eagles UFA 40.6% 27 $641,281 $225,124 Kamu Grugier-Hill 43OLB Eagles UFA 29.4% 26 $610,089 $100,356 Jalen Mills CB Eagles UFA 49.4% 26 $604,214 $76,856 Craig James CB Eagles ERFA 6.7% 24 $570,000 $0 Corey Clement RB Eagles RFA 0.3% 26 $558,333 $35,000 Cameron Johnston P Eagles ERFA 29.7% 28 $532,500 $15,

pdxgreen
I like McCown and hope he comes to coach with us... Buuuuut playing with pain/severe injury has kind of lost it's "there goes a tough guy!" luster with me. it's only noteworthy if your name's Ronnie Lott and you get the SB glory. There are probably people playing with all sorts of f-d up arms and limbs. Sometimes the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Winters played like 5-6 games with half his arm hanging off and fans still just reacted that "he played like crap." It's like what Favre said. "You can't just play hurt. You still have to play well." Othwrwide nobody cares. That's a reality in the meat market that is the NFL.

I generally agree with you (while finding it ironic that Favre said that considering he torpedoed our 2008 season by playing poorly while hurt). In McCown’s case, he had no choice. Wentz was out due to the concussion and theEagles didn’t have another QB active for the game.
