Have you ever met a Hall of Famer in any sport?

Recommended Posts

Only including the time after they were inducted into the Hall of Fame

I met Kenny Stabler a couple of times, but obviously, that was before he was inducted (since he was voted in posthumously).

I met Eddie Brown who is in the arena football league hall of fame. He's Antonio Brown's father. Really nice guy - down to earth. Does that count? lol

I met LT once when I was young, maybe middle school at a charity basketball event.  He was in his car, hazy omn whether he was coming or going but it was essentially right before or after the game and the only thing he said wad "get the **** away from the car kids" and up his window went. As a Jets fan I didn't care but some of the kids with LT jerseys on seemed pretty upset lol

What was he driving?

A white sedan, very very expensive looking.  I don't remember anything more than that.

I have met:

Football: Joe Namath (played catch with him including numerous "touchdowns" that won a Jets Super Bowl)

Baseball: Willie Mays, Ralph Kiner (I snuck into the Mets broadcasting booth, Mays was there and "escorted" me back to my parents) , ate breakfast a table from Barry Bonds in Palms casino, guess that doesn't count.

Met several current (Joe Theismann, Don Shula) and future (Larry Fitzgerald, Roethlisberger) HOF'ers through some contacts I have in the NFLPA and through my local community.  Had a chance to hang out with a lot of players (non-HOF) at two different Super Bowl parties and NFL events, and by far the most fun, down-to-earth guy to have a beer with is Matt Hasselbeck.

I guess it depends how you define "met".

A friend of my dad's was a UPI photographer in the 60s.  He had given me a bunch of pictures he took at a Yankee game, couple of them were pix of Mickey Mantle.  When I was in school at Georgia, I see that Mantle is appearing at a card show, so I decided to get the photos autographed.  Waited in line and when it was my turn, Mickey was curious about the photos and how I got them. I had a brief convesation with him.  Not sure that qualifies as "meeting" when you pay for the privilege.

I am farly friendly with Joe Dellamilluire , HOF Bills lineman. Lives here in Charlotte and his daughter's family is a member at my club. He invited me to the HOF induction which I regret everyday not going.

Met Curtis Martin in Charlotte, chatted at length.  Our club bought a table and presented him with a gift at a speech he made.

... I sat on David Hasselhoffs lap inside the KITT car from Knight Rider when I was like 7 during the Detroit auto show.

Judge all you want lol but as a 7yo in the 80s, I was the coolest kid in school after that.

I was lucky at previous jobs to be able to meet and talk with many greats and some not so greats.  I never did get to meet Mark, I'd like to some day and let him know some jet fans appreciate what he did.
