Ownership is the problem. Time to force Woody to sell Jets.

I've NEVER seen you negative about this team and we've not made the playoffs in almost 10 years. You call that objective, but I call it loyal to a fault.

You sniffing glue?

Hated Rex Ryan.  Hated John Idzik.  Hated Geno Smith.  Hated Darrelle Revis V3.  That's half the decade right there.  But then the team did what they needed to do-  dismantle the Ryan Jets.  We had to pay the price for trying everything to win a Super Bowl in 2010 and 2011.  Fat contracts, lazy players, guys halfway out the door.

Once we went into rebuild mode I did what fans should do-  show patience.  Bowles and Maccagnan were not here to win.  They were here to lose.  That's what a rebuild regime does.  Once the Johnson's realized we found our franchise quarterback, we got rid of those two clowns and brought in Gase and Douglas.  Feels good.

2010-2011 were years we went for it all.
2012-2016 were a disaster, Fitz year was fun, nothing else.
2018-2019 were the start of the Darnold era, time to be optimistic again.

That's the SAR fandom summary.

The Knicks have more recently made the playoffs and made a run than the jets.  Even the Mets are in better shape and their owners literally don’t care about winning

10 years, no playoffs, one winning season, traded for Tebow instead of drafting Wilson, keep hiring duds (Mac, Idzik, Bowles, Gase) and then Woody runs off to a made up job in England to let his even dumber brother further derail the train wreck

Ownership is the #1 problem

Not saying they're not the problem.  I just don't think there's a thing we can do about it.  If they want to own the team they're going to own the team.

Just now, SAR I said:

Shanahan had a Super Bowl roster last year and went 4-12 missing only his quarterback.

Gase had an XFL roster this year and went 7-9 missing 18 players on IR and scores more missing significant time.

Looks to me like Gase is the better head coach.  Looks to me like Gase can make something out of nothing.  Looks to me that once Douglas builds him a championship-caliber roster Gase is going to get it done.

But you go on hating.  Because you were wrong on the internet.  Dead wrong.

SAR I

So now that’s your excuse to make you yourself feel good.  They were like the Jets, just another team in the NFL.

Now the fraud is better than SB bound Shanahan. I bet you are also LYAO.

You still strike me as someone who is shortsighted and loyal to a fault. When you say things line Gase's 6-2 finish was one of the greatest accomplishments in team history you lose all credibility. Someone on here called you a positive troll. I agree with that. It's ok though, just don't call anyone who disagrees with you a SOJF or a fan in a slump. You are absolutely not rational when it comes to the Jets.

With negative Gase haters like you, perhaps.  With the media trying to cater to negative Gase haters like you, perhaps.

But real Jets fans know.  I have seen more people wearing Jets gear out in the streets and in restaurants and shops in the last month than I've seen in a decade.  People are excited.

You can make yourself miserable.  That's fine.  It's the SOJF playbook.  Some of you were born to behave this way.

This is the best post.  Ownership has been the Jets problem.  It all starts at the top.  Look at the best teams in football one common thread... solid ownership.

They're definitely not cheap and they seem to stay out of the football decisions.

I mean they spend as much as you can and got rid of midget stadium.

What else can you ask from ownership?

Sadly, Giant Stadium was 10X better to actually watch a football game in than the Meadowlands.  The Giants actually built the only good football stadium in the region.  Since they only did it once, I attribute it to pure luck.

Sam Darnold's last 8 games featured 15 TD's and 4 interceptions.  Completion percentage over 60%.  QBR 93.3 is 10th best in the NFL.  With no weapons.  With no OL.  With no running game.  With an extremely limited playbook.

Proof Gase might be a good offensive coordinator.

We already know Gase is a good head coach.

I like MetLife much more than midget stadium.

The Johnson brothers are football morons.

Nice guys, compasssionate, mean well I've met them both, they just don't get it and as long as they are making money the win-loss record means nothing to them.

Fans leave the stadium all pissed off after spending a day and quite a bit of money, they leave the stadium richer than when they got there.

The NFL is a business to them.

It is funny, people complaining about the Johnson's but forget that Trump tried to buy the team and the NFL had the Johnson's step - no politics, but can you imagine him as an owner; maybe you all would like Hess back. Please.

Show me an owner who owns a business with a hard cap on labor costs that makes as much money as the NFL... and is willing to sell.

You gunna make Woody an offer he can't refuse?

The owners are partners with each other, they are not in competition with each other.  If the NFL wasn't a monopoly that ran on a socialist model, Woody Johnson would have bankrupted the Jets years ago and his partners who share revenue would have kicked him to the curb.

I think until Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft see the NY Jet franchise as a liability to their own pocket book you don't have a prayer.

Ownership is the problem.  Ownership made the decisions to hire the clowns that preceded Gase and Douglas, because they knew no better and were trying to be cheap.

ownership was undoubtedly behind some if not most of our personnel decision oddities.

But no one is forcing Woody to sell.  I do not see the Johnsons owning this team for 100 years like the Mara’s or Rooney’s, or Krafts or Jones for that matter.   Woody’s heirs will eventually fight with Chris for control of the team.  They will eventually have to sell it.  Give it 10 or so years.   Some finance type is sharpening their pencil as we speak.

Those GMs and coaches failed.  But can you blame Woody for that?  He even swallowed his pride and let the NFL chime in on a round of hires.  That's not common in billionaires.

Now he (or his bro) has chosen a new GM who seems legit.  Let's see if he fails now.

NO real businessman turns his business to his brother.  I’m sorry, Woody is not a business man.

Of course not.  He's some lucky schmuck that won the "born into money" lottery.

Most folks born into money like that are fools.

Not gonna hate on the guy for it though.  If I was born into billions, good chance I would've bought the Jets too.

Howver I wouldn't stay out of football operations.

Depends on your idea of what a business man is.

Its his fault that the Jets haven't made the playoffs?  OK, if its playoffs and playoff win then J Jones went from a great business man with the Johnson era Cowboys to an idiot the last 25 years.  And lots of owners are stupid business men.

But if investing in a business for $635 million, making 10's of millions per year in profits while increasing the value of the team to billions, you decide.  And who cares why, his investment paid off.  Big time.

Funny how we make fun of the business man part of the equation.

Not so sure. Woody is no spring chicken any more. There has to be a succession plan in place. Not sure if they have one, or if there is any one in the family that is willing, or capable of taking over the team. They need to be able to handle the Trust so that they can take advantage of some tax consequences from a liquidation event.

My gut would tell me that this is the last CBA extension that the Johnsons will handle, and that they would sell during the next cycle. They can sell on an upside with expected revenue from future media (streaming) opportunities and with additional revenue sharing from gambling.

There is no mechanism to remove an NFL owner short of that owner being caught for example on tape getting sticky with an Asian sex provider in a Florida strip mall or if the franchise in question has been caught multiple times defrauding the other 31 owners via some scheme or other to cheat on the outcome of games.

Or indeed even if said owner shamelessly and aggressively markets himself as some kind of benevolent saint because of his contributions to the community and/or the tragic death of the wife he married in order to acquire his fortune in the first place.

Oh wait...

funny about that.  this being the chief's 50th year since their superbowl appearance kind of negates their championship game with the packers in superbowl 1.  if course the nfl kind of discounts these earlier games because the leagues weren't combined until after sb 3.

you don't think the nfl is a business to jerry jones?  robert kraft? lamar hunt's heirs? the rooney family?  the mara's?  the johnsons want their team to win because that translates to revenue.  the thing they've done wrong is select the wrong people to run the team.  on that basis of course it's their fault but trading them for different owners isn't going to make anything different.  the new owners will choose people to run and coach the team.

You and I will never agree here.  If I bought something on Amazon in 1999 and was impressed enough that I put 100K in and now im worth 10 million doesn't make me a genius.   Woody has not really done much of anything to move the needle on the value of the Jets, it moves with the market of the teams.  The Jets value increases in spite of him mainly.   Sort of like calling Matt Rhule a great businessman for staying in college until Tepper broke the bank for him.
