Dupe
That second half is nothing special. Hugh Douglas is an omission. In the 5-6 range IMO. Boy, why did we trade him a way.... Victor Green was a really good Jet but again nothing special. 1
HessStation
Mo Lewis should be 6th. On a better team he’d be just under HOF caliber. And I’d put Glenn 7th.
Popular Post HessStation
Also, I’d put Kris Jenkins at #1 if a year and 1/3 counted enough. He was the most dominant Jet I’ve ever seen, granted the time was so short. 8
nycdan
The top two would have a slight chance to crack the Steelers all-time list. Maybe. Hell, the Steelers had 4 HoFers on their 1974 starting unit. Why did you start this thread of sadness?

But when you start listing the top-10 Jets defensive players of all time, and I see names like the bottom half of that list, I can't help but shed a tear. It's just so damned pathetic. Don't get me wrong, I loved Victor Green as a player for the Jets. But how many teams would list him as a top-10 all time defensive player?
bitonti
I still think 99 is better than 73 (or at least a rarer athlete, who would be more valuable in any era) that first step was unbelievable 99 gets blamed for abandoning the team and the Kosar roughing etc as a person he stinks but as a player he's cash money still - nice work - can live with this list overall 2

Hard to know what to do on such a poll when you take into account a player's ability when they are at their best vs. how long they played. If I could have Jenkins at his best for ten years, it is a no-bran'er, but that is "fantasy land". It aint real. I think it would be best to include a set of criteria. For example. Top favorite defensive players judging by: 1. Length of tenure 2. Over All Skill Set 3. Unselfish Team Player 4. Performance In Big Games/ Playoffs In that case, take Jenkins off and consider guys like Lyons, Klecko, Harris, Ellis, Clifton, Mehl All top notch players who never caused any "me me me" headlines... jgb
I love this list because Revis is #1 (as he should be). He was utterly robbed in 2009 when he lost to Charles Woodson (a feel-good selection) for DPOY. His 2009 year was unprecedented and maybe un-repeatable in today's NFL. I bet the average Jet fan would not be so kind to him due to his business-savvy approach.

His 2009 was the most dominant season for a defensive player I have seen since LT. The problem is being that good didn't lead to sexy stats ("only" 6 INTs).

Barry McCockinner
Good list - I'm surprised you'd rank Ellis and Harris above Aaron Glenn. I was beside myself when we let the Texans get him from us.
Villain The Foe
I also thought that a guy like Aaron Glenn would make this type of list. Loved him when he played for us. Nice list.
