Compelling, until...

On the one hand, we have a false accusation by CTM. On the other hand, Rhode Island is close enough to MA that Verbal could very well be guilty by association. Given that no one else has come to any of your defenses, there's only one fair way to decide this... Verbal, what's your baseball team?

The answer to this vital question could very easily sway my vote. The wrong answer could prove to be fatal.

To all you rookie players verbal is at 8 votes it takes 11 to lynch ..... you DO NOT want to pile on and vote him off before he gets a chance to explain his possible innocence or reveal his role to us if he is in fact a town power role. So please keep that in mind for him and all future trains. Just wanted to make sure you guys know how this plays out.

I thought this was already known?

Seriously though.   What is a power role and why does it matter?

A power role, when talking about a town player, is something that distinguishes a player from a "Vanilla Town" player.  Vanilla Town means you have no night actions.  A Power Role DOES have a night action, typically.

The 2 most common Town Power Roles are Cop and Doctor.  The Cop can investigate players (1 per night) to find out if they're town or scum.  A Doctor can protect a player (1 per night, and has the option to protect himself) from getting Killed at Night by Scum.

How would a doctor be killed then?

If the Doctor protects someone else, he/she opens himself/herself up to getting Night Killed (NK'd).

Sometimes that just comes down to bad luck.  Other times it happens when another Power Role (like the Cop) gets "outed", and the Doctor chooses to protect him/her.

Yeah but they can protect themselves too, so they can't be killed if they do that?

Theoretically yes.  But there are sometimes games where scum has a role to "override" the protection.  I can neither confirm nor deny that this game has a role like that.  But that is the only scenario where a self-protection would fail.

Most games, a Doctor will self-protect each night until there is a compelling reason to protect another player.

Also, and this is where it gets fun. Scum might counter claim the doctor role to take them out or they might fake claim doctor to block a lynch and then look at reactions to see if they can find the real doctor. Which happens often, they essentially are willing to swap 1 scum (usually highly suspected) for 1 doctor and 1 nk, and then no risk of blocked NK in future

Townies don't know who is telling the truth and the mafia usually are keen to see the doctor go, so it just takes a couple of townies to choose wrong and the doctor ends up getting lynched

Also -  to smash's point, if we just lynch an unknown player without giving them a chance to defend, we risk just lynching the doctor. which is a very powerful role.
