Leon Rose set to become new Knicks president, reportedly would bring William Wesley

Recommended Posts

The Knicks are close to a deal to make top Creative Artist Agency agent Leon Rose the president of basketball operations.

Rose was the former agent of LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony and it should be noted reps Wolves star Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks have monitored Towns’ situation in Minnesota as they look to upgrade a roster that lacks star power. Towns is from New Jersey, as is Rose, who also reps Suns star Devin Booker. Rose also helped broker deals that landed his clients Eddy Curry and Andrea Bargnani in New York.

Rose has close ties with Kentucky coach John Calipari, who is a CAA guy.

“His strength is his interconnections with every element of basketball — shoe companies, general managers, players,” one person familiar with Rose’s credentials said.

Rose reportedly would bring William Wesley, known as “World Wide Wes,” onto his staff as they’ve been aligned for years. Wesley is a former James/Calipari advisor.

Knicks owner James Dolan, as The Post reported Wednesday, wanted to move fast on a hire, which all but eliminated Masai Ujiri from contention. Ujiri is a free agent in 2021 and he could be revisited then. Dolan was adamant against heavy compensation in hiring a new president. It was reported Dolan was looking at the agent model that has worked for Golden State (Bob Myers) and the Lakers (Rob Pelinka).

The Knicks recently hired as a consultant Steve Stoute, who is a friend of James, and he was influential in helping the presidential search that likely was ongoing for more than two days.

Knicks president Steve Mills was fired two days ago and Knicks GM Scott Perry was promoted. The Post reported Dolan wanted to move fast to have someone in place by season’s end to direct a coaching search.

They’re also hiring World Wide Wes.

Jimmy and the Straight Shot tour incoming. I guess at least they're doing us the favor of being totally open about it now vs the last time CAA ran the team. This isnt a basketball operation anymore.
