OPPORTUNITY FOR JOE DOUGLAS TO SHINE

TMAC

Listening to Bart Scott today, the Free Agent market will have an unusually high number of quality offensive linemen and edge rushers.  The draft is supposed to be deep at the wide receiver position.  If Joe Douglas is any good, he should be able to make moves in the off season which can materially improve the team. Let's hope he can break the pattern.

This has already been pointed out many times over. As you say, the draft is loaded with OL and WR. Between FA and the draft, there's no earthly reason why this should enter opening day with an almost completely revamped OL.

Let’s be honest, can he do any worse?

Signing Kahil and flopping as he did does not inspire much confidence. Hopefully it’s not a sign of things to come and was just a desperate move which doesn’t translate into his ability to fix this horrendous OL.

Let’s start with using high draft picks on the line, and pick up a another tackle in F.A.
Personally I’d break the bank for Jack Conklin, and I would not resign Kelvin Beachum.

We said that when Idzik's replacement got here. The answer, unfortunately, was yes, way worse.

how we have had so many people in charge of the roster with little no experience building a successful one is amazing to me. Joe D by all account has been around people who have built good rosters to varying degree's, but by all quantitative measures, "good" rosters. So this year is his time to shine. I think he will do fine and upgrade the line.

Sure, but it's not gonna happen overnight, takes time for an Offensive unit to gel let alone an O-line. Consistency, is the goal once a foundation has been laid.

Sign at least 2 Offensive linemen, 1 WR, 1 Edge rusher, 1 CB in Free Agency.  Not all of them need to be top tier guys.  Even just average or slightly above average players would upgrade every single one of those position groups.  Then get to the Draft and follow the same pattern....Draft 2 OLinemen, a WR (or two) an Edge rusher and a  CB.

He took a flyer on Khalil. After free agency. After the draft. It cost nothing except money for  2019 only, for a team that had cap space. It was an ultra low risk move that didn’t work out.  No big deal.

Kicker situation and the trade for DT weren't great either.

What did you think of his acquisitions of Ryan Griffin, Vyncinct Smith, Braxton Berrios, Alex Lewis and a high 3rd Rd pick for Leonard Williams?

Berrios was a nice pickup as they finally seemingly solved punt returner for the long haul. The rest- meh. Thankfully he had enough sense to get Gettleman on the phone, which he wont have the luxury of doing next season.

Vyncint was nice about as good as anyone we have had on off for a while but he was picked up at this market value not over paid like all the other guys.

Good news is, the Jets dont need OL or WR help because our OL gives Sam the 3rd most time to throw the Football in the NFL.

So we really should be able to put a ton of focus into pass rushers and corners and come away with impact players.

The Jets signed Khalil in August for $8m. At that point they were still under the cap.

How was that $8m a big deal? Did it preclude them from signing another FA? No. Did it hurt our 2020 cap? No.

Please explain how that was a big deal?

8 million could have been better spent than wasting it on a over the hill bum like Kahil. How who?  Not sure but it could have been allocated elsewhere - ask Sperm
