OT: I just tested positive with COVID

I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks this way.  I believe the virus has been in the US since the beginning of January (or earlier) and spreading like wildfire since.  Many people who had the "flu" in January and February (and perhaps even died from it) probably had Covid-19.  I believe the early patients in the US caught it from air travel - an airplane is a cesspool of germs and everyone is breathing the same recycled air.  US residents travel more than citizens of any other country.  The biggest problem is a large % of the population are carriers and do not show symptoms and have been spreading it without abandon for months.  It wouldn't shock me if the endgame result were 250,000,000 Americans catch it/carry it, 40,000,000 suffer greatly and out of that 40M, due to not being tested and eventually due to scarcity of hospital beds and ventilators, 7M+ will die.  Our response has been pathetic to date and its probably way too late at this point.  Our population is polluted with people who believe their are entitled by the Constitution to live free from any government intervention and do WTF they want.

I'm also tired of Trump's excuses.  People I know started talking about it shortly after the New Year.   There is evidence that members of Congress were expressing concern the first week of January.  Not to mention the Jan 24 briefing of President Trump by the Senate Health and Foreign Relations committees that expressed such a dire emergency it lead 4 Senators to sell off their entire investment portfolios.  That was Jan 24 folks, or more than 6 weeks prior to Trump finally fessing up to there being a concern.   Truthfully the US should have gone on lockdown on Jan 24, and if it had, the economy would have been saved and we would probably looking at a much much more manageable scenario.  Instead we are heading towards an economic crises greater than the Great Depression and the worst health crises in history.

Bear in mind - the only reason why our positive test results are so low is because we have barely tested anyone.  How many people would you say are living in the US now?  Including the undocumented, I would say upwards of 360M, compare that to Spain of under 50M and Italy of approx 60M.  360M people, 943,000 hospital beds and 160,000 ventilators SMH!  In New Jersey Governor Murphy tooted his horn so very proud that we tested 600 people today, there are only 9M people living in NJ.

Whoa! Let's be a little careful about throwing around some important statements that aren't based on fact.  I'm ignoring all the political stuff here but will focus on what's bolded above.  You can certainly catch a disease while in close proximity to an infected person on a plane but the statement about the air is inaccurate.  Airplanes typically recycle the entire cabin of air more than 20 times per hour through recirculation systems that include filtration with HEPA filters.  That's the same kind of filtration used in hospitals including hospital OR's.  If you are worried about germs on a plane what you do is wipe down the armrests, tray table, seat belt buckle and other touch surfaces around you with a 70%+ alcohol wipe, Clorox wipe, etc. and then turn on the air vent above your seat to High and point it right in front of your face.  You're likely better breathing the air on an airplane than the stagnant air in your own home or office.

Good luck, Brutha.  Hassidics in Lakewood and New Roc are accelerating the spread.  Today in Lakewood cops had to break up 2 weddings.   I believe they are the same sect of anti vaxxers who took measles hits.  Crazy that their rabbis dont do all they can to protect the flock.  Needless illness and deaths.  Them people have enough to deal with.

I generally try to have enough pollutants in me during air travel to destroy any germs, but i picked up an illness on my way to Vegas 15yrs ago that started kicking my ass 3 days into 5day vacation.  Luckily the semi-pro escort was on day 2.

Now i keep 4 antibiotics in my toiletries bag with my advil and tums, when i travel.

Hang in there. Know that those who’ve read your post are thinking about you and your loved ones, and hope you all get well soon. Keep us posted.

Obviously follow the doctor’s orders. Otherwise I’ve always strongly believed in  plenty of sleep and plenty of fluids when ill, FWIW.

First of all I'm glad you're doing better. secondly I hope your family doesn't contract it and that your parents start feeling better soon. sounds like you've recovered and your body is producing antibodies which will be used if this thing attacks you again.

I'm pretty sure I had it too... But wasn't able to get tested. Had symptoms for about 8 days and then started getting better ... but was pretty bad.

Doctors generally are saying see if your symptoms get better and if they don't go to the hospital... Which if you don't have this thing... Is the worst place you want to go.

Hoping they have tests available soon.

I had something similar except at the beginning of February.  Never had anything last that long in my life that I can remember.  It started out as basically one of the worst colds I can recall.  Day 1 was your scratchy throat.  Day two pretty lethargic, then Day 3 I was on my *** with a terrible cough, aches, likely fever(never took my temp tho).  By about day 7 I started feeling pretty good again, but couldn't kick the cough and congestion.  That lasted about a month, maybe 5 weeks.  One antibiotics treatment given out of pity did nothing.

I can't imagine(or couldn't have about 2 weeks ago) it would have reached Iowa that soon, but who knows when it really arrived in the US.  Perfectly fine now.

My pregnant wife and 2 year old now on about day 5  of what I would normally think is your common cold, and very well could be, but not quite sure.  Zero documented cases in my county, which is 2nd biggest in Iowa.  I find that damn near impossible.

I feel better now talking it through ?

Had the flu around New Years, was traveling a lot around the Holidays. Cough, fever etc. guess it could have been corona. Rarely get sick either.

Taking the 2 year old into the Dr. here shortly.  Last night was very rough and this morning not much better.

Very difficult time breathing, but he often needs steroid treatment with a cold anyway.  Ultimately I don't think it's COVID, but the Dr. wants to see him.

First and most importantly, I admit that I did not take this seriously in the beginning and I apologize to everyone for that. I am no political guru or expert, and have no party affiliation whatsoever, but let's call things like we see them. We are now Governed by a President who goes on National TV, shakes hands with his staff after possible exposure to the virus, incessantly and maddingly pats himself and his staff on the back for I have no idea what, berates any reporter asking innocent and necessary questions that would provide vital information to the Nation while his Country is sick, dying, panicked, scared $hitless, running out of supplies, addicted to any and all anxiety medications (none of which I myself can get - yet), and has done nothing at all to help the situation, in fact, imho, his total lack of leadership and self absorption has fueled the anxiety and fear of the American people. Would it kill him to go on TV, tell everyone to be safe, give valid, calming information to the Country such as no need to buy 15 years worth of toilet paper or to hoard groceries, all while confirming that the supply chain will continue, and people will not run out of food and medication? Isn't that what a leader does? Sorry, calling it like I see it - he has been absolutely pathetic, and has failed the American people in every way possible.

Governor Cuomo has done a terrific job contrary to the President of trying to be sympathetic to NY State residents, trying to stop the spread, and trying to calm the nerves of everyone. If people would just heed the warnings and do what the CDC says, stay far from each other, keep good hygiene for 1 month, this will all pass most likely, unlike these selfish stupid kids in Florida this past week who will proceed to fly all over the Country and infect everyone they come into contact with. IMHO, this is all due to the total lack of leadership from the Federal Government. The beaches and all public gathering places throughout the US should have been closed after the first case was detected or reported, or at least after we discovered that social distancing was needed. I have looked to our elected leaders for guidance and assistance and have gotten nothing at the Federal Level. My anxiety is off the rails as is everyone else's. The United States of America does not have enough masks, ventilators and other essential hospital supplies. Let us not even mention the shortage of test kits and testing facilities here as well. I read yesterday that the DOD has the facilities to test 10000+ per day but has not been called by the Federal Government to step in. This is the United States. Not some 3rd world poverty stricken Country, the United States. This is totally on the Federal Government. Remember, this virus does not distinguish a Trump hater or supporter, the proof is in the pudding. Everyone is getting sick or panicked because our Government did nothing to prevent this catastrophe. The only good thing that will ever come out of this will happen in November when the Government is changed - hopefully.

Wishes for good health and a successful recovery to all. We will push through this crisis.

Time out.  This has nothing to do with the Federal Government and has everything to do with parenting.  And intelligence.

The teens in Florida (and I saw a pack of them just last night here in NJ) have parents who are doing a sh-t job of managing their own families.  Every college student at a park or a party has parents who are not doing their part.  Even grown adults, like my wife's cousins, 40+, are hosting parties of 10 people, traveling between states, visiting their grandparents, etc.

All the rhetoric from a President or a Governor means nothing, you can't blame POTUS for this part of the problem.  It's us.  It's idiots that are our friends and family members.  Citizens have to take this more seriously.

SAR I

And the problem is that these buffoons are only prolonging the time that the rest of us have to sit inside by infecting everyone. They’re selfishly ruining things for the rest of us that are doing our part.

I think it's kind of normal for people to be frightened with these dire predictions. But I think the shutdowns can work and hopefully cut down numbers in terms of people getting it. I'm kind of surprised that so many people are cooperating. It's a good thing. I'm lucky I have a nice place to live a lot of room and amenities. We can go out to take a short walk. Just follow the guidelines and you'll be ok. You won't catch it if you're not near somebody.  And we can fight like crazy again about our beloved team. All of us.

I don’t think it’s airplanes that are highly infectious, but the airports themselves.

last year I had a family wedding in Canada and most people who traveled there were sick within a day of arriving, while the side of the family who lived there were fine. We all traveled and stopped through at least 1 of the same airports. Eventually by the end of the trip even the Canadians got sick from us.

many times I’ve found myself sick while or just after traveling. Airports and Hospitals are 2 of the most common places to pick up germs

btw thank you for pointing out that most of what he said were opinions, not facts. He can’t seem to tell the difference.

Sure we do. There is plenty of news amd info if you look. Try catching up on the  news pal.

I know alot of people are scared but as predicted as more people are test the fatality rates are dropping fast and now there is multiple places reporting chloroquine or something like that curing the virus.

The devastation  and huge over reaction by media and state gov to this virus is embarrassing, a needless panic. It's sad. But the Chinese carona virus panic will soon be ending and I hope anyone with it can get the "new" cure soon.

There are no credible studies that chloroquine etc work on the coronavirus.

How about they're both doing a good job.  Trump has built a very strong Task Force and shut down China and Europe earlier than most would have expected, and is working with big corporations like General Motors and Google for support at a national level.  Cuomo is a very good communicator and is prioritizing well, is on his own as a Governor seeking equipment for his state and asking the Federal Government for help with hospitals and ventilators.  Governor Murphy, not as big a presence of Trump or Cuomo is doing the right things too.

Tough time for professional politicians and they're doing well for what they are able to control.  In the end, its about us.  We either stay away from each other and self-police or we carry on with irresponsible gatherings and endanger everyone.

There is NOT ONE report of chloroquine curing the virus. There is hope that it can be used as a treatment, not a cure, but at this point it is nothing more than hope.

You may think this is an overreaction. That’s cool. But for those members of our community who are older or have some kind of discovered or undiscovered preexisting condition, for those members of the community and their family members who work in healthcare, for those members of the community who can’t stay home because they provide essential services, for those members of the community whose lives could ordinarily be saved but will instead have to die because they can’t get a hospital bed: PLEASE do not let your actions reflect your beliefs that this is an overreaction. If you are wrong, and the people who are thinking like you are wrong, the consequences can and will be devestating.
