NYJ1
Besides, the idea that JD actually gives a sh*t about the OL, not much of anything that I can see? Douglas, just like Mac, shops off the Kmart blue light special rack to find bargain basement players. Now, this approach of signing OL that are essentially injury risks (Lewis), developmental players (Fant), or middle of the road players (McGovern), is fine for a budget I suppose? Every one of these players come with some sort of caveat or red flag. Mac, just like what it appears Douglas is doing, used to shop the sh*t out of the second and third tier FA market for everything with the lone exception of OL. Mac didn't give a sh*t about the OL. This approach netted us a team that was one of the LEAST talented in the game today. So like I said, with the exception of OL, JD and Mac are essentially one in the same when it comes to FA at least. The differences that I can see right now are the following: 1) Mac decided it was in best interests to strip the team of ANY returning talent. He wanted to start from literal GROUND ZERO and build the team up in his image. My take on it was he knew he sucked as a GM and was willing to do anything to prolong his inevitable dismissal. This way he could continue to collect big money paychecks. He knew his days as GM were numbered shortly after the results of the 2015 draft came in. In contrast, JD is probably never going to rip the team apart with the kind of enthusiasm Mac did. There's no need at this point. As it stands today, the Jets have most likely the very least talented roster in all of football. So there's really nothing to rip apart. 2) Mac was the most incompetent dingbat when it came to drafting. His drafting was horrid right from the start and it never really improved. This is the very lifeline for any football team and Mac was very good at squandering as many picks as he got. Joe Douglas, on the other hand, has not shown his drafting skills. This is the area where JD can set himself apart by the largest margin. If JD starts drafting talent, ALL of these other moves won't really matter. At some point, the team will morph into one that has yearly infusions of talent and pushes expensive vets into FA. So in conclusion, these are the areas where Mac and JD are similar and where they differ. What I've seen from JD during this off season is that his plan is to gamble on high risk players at OL. Approximately the same as Mac did just not with the OL. Make no mistake, all of this could quickly come crashing down and OL IMO is an area where you get what you pay for. If JD is unwilling to pay for top notch linemen he'll never get top notch play from the OL. 1 8 4

MindOverMatter
Almost everything it seems. Douglas actually climbed the ranks and saw how two seperate franchises grew into winning organizations. JD has a plan and so far seems to be executing it well. I'm biased against Mac since I hate the guy but he really was clueless. His drafting and FA signing were awful, but the only credit i'll give him was the Marshal trade for the 5th rounder and maybe Clady (broncos LT?). Not many other good moves come to mind.

Give me the total figure on cap space in 2020. There's your answer! The combined 2019 salaries of Trumaine Johnson & Le'veon Bell! Macc signed Quincy Enunwa, a guy with a cracked neck to $36,000,000 contract with $20,000,000 guaranteed! JD signed 5 olineman for that price! 7 1
Popular Post Beerfish
The better question is what is the difference between Douglas and Idzik? In the end Douglas, like almost all GMs will be defined on how he drafts. If you are frugal as a gm or pay huge contracts it still comes down to hitting on your picks.

JD's FA strategy seems to be much closer to Idzik than Macc. Macc gave big $$ to Mosley & Tru. Tried to sign Cousins and Barr. Going back a little further, brought in Revis and Cro for big $. Probably others I am forgetting. Hopefully JD can draft better than Idzik. This approach works if you draft well. Actually, just about everything works if you draft well.

He also took on the latter 2 years of the Raider deal for Osemele (resulting in $10.2M in dead money). 3

Only real good move was trading up and picking Darnold, who did fall in his lap since Sammy was rated higher then Mayfield by most, and certainly was rated as a higher pick and especially for a QB over a RB. JetsLife
Jets were one of the least talented teams under Mac because he inherited a barren roster from Idzik, and was his equal (worse?) in incompetent drafting.
GreenFish
Douglas seems to actually care what coaches think. Macc was playing fantasy football. Ultimately, it’ll come down to drafting. We won’t know how good JD is for another 3 years.
